Poetic Descent is an Alternative Metal band from Dayton, Ohio featuring former members of Mayfly (Voluminous Records). Their music has been compared to bands like Incubus, Deftones, Disciple, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Dead Poetic, and Funeral for a Friend.
All songs are composed by Jared Lacey, who created the name Poetic Descent after discovering that the biblical Hebrew word for his first name translates as "to descend.” Lyrically, his songs touch on deep, personal topics such as theology and addiction.
Jared (vocals, guitar, bass) and Adam Thompson (drums) entered the Darkroom Recording Studio (Piqua, OH) to record six songs with Justin Moore shortly after Mayfly announced its end in March of 2017. These songs were released as singles online on all major streaming and download sites a year later, with the final song being released in June of 2018. Since then their debut single, Close Encounter, has had much success on the radio staying in the top ten on the Christian Rock National Airplay Billboard chart six weeks in a row from May through June.
In November of 2018, the duo re-entered the studio with Jake Bryant (former guitarist for Dangerkids) and Shaun O'Shaughnessy (Encore Recording Studios in Dayton, OH) to record a new single titled Pariah which was released on March 29th, 2019. This song was initially composed by manager and former Mayfly guitarist, Joel Holycross, but was rewritten by Jared and Adam. Joel was asked to contribute vocals on the song and it ended up finishing off 2019 at #8 on ChristianRock.Net's Top 100 chart and #54 on Christian Music Weekly's Top 100 Rock chart.
The band just recently added Jason Elam as their lead guitarist. They plan to release a new single titled Shallow Graves on July 24th, 2020. It will feature their friend, Paul Carnahan, who is the vocalist for Knoxville (TN) metalcore quintet, Time & Eternity.
