CHRISTIAN MUSIC TWEETS WITH MARY BURKLIN
#78 - Living Dangerously
Christian artists update fans throughout the week via Twitter and NRT's Mary Burklin uncovers her Top 10 favorite tweets and photo uploads of the past seven days in this weekly column.

Whether it was on stage with unusual instruments or in the kitchen, this week Christian artists throughout the twitterverse were living on the edge. This week also brought some glimpses into the creative process and... the barber shop. Catch up on all the latest below.

As always, if you'd like to keep tabs on over 1,200 Christian artists, check out our exclusive NRTwitter page to read the latest tweets from the Christian music community.

TOP TEN TWEETS

#1 - Fueling Up
@marktheshark: Sometimes a one Dr. Pepper day turns into a two Dr. Pepper day and you're okay with it… (October 1)

Mark Waldrop (formerly of David Crowder*Band and currently of The Digital Age) chooses Dr. Pepper as his fuel of choice. Some days just need a little more fuel than others.

#2 - Mix it Up
@TFKTrevor: GO!! Here are the 2 free REMIXES we promised! Spread the word!! These need to be played on 11!!! http://noisetrade.com/thousandfootkrutch #TFKremixes #TFKARMY (October 1)

Due to the strong success of Thousand Foot Krutch’s The End is Where We Begin on the opening week, the band treated fans to two remixes this week (including one by Family Force 5’s Soul Glow Activatur). Pick them up on Noisetrade and spread the news.

#3 - Wild Side
@jonnydiaz: Not sure if I cooked the chicken all the way through... But it's ok...I've had a good life. (October 1)

Jonny Diaz knows how to live dangerously--in the kitchen, at the very least.

#4 - Endings
@UnderoathBand: If you haven't heard, today's a big day. A reflection day. A day of looking back at what the past 12 years has been to us and to you guys. (October 2)

This week, defining Christian hardcore act Underoath announced their disbanding after 15 years on the road. Announcements regarding a farewell show are forthcoming, but for now Twitter serves as a platform for them to tie up loose ends with fans.

#5 - Costumed
@FamilyForce5: So I'm prolly gonna be Loki for Halloween......cause I'm him on a day to day basis. #SoulGlowkiProblemz (October 3)

Since we all know that Soul Glow of Family Force 5 is either Loki (from recent summer Blockbuster The Avengers) or else his not-as-evil twin, the lead singer decided to use the costuming season as an opportunity to finally make his identity public. Be on the lookout for a super villain wearing hulk gloves roaming the streets!

#6 - Comfort Food
@barrygraul: There really should be a hot dog stand and an espresso bar at the DMV. Right? #mm (October 3)

MercyMe’s guitarist may be onto something here--the only problem being that it might make the lines at the DMV even longer.

#7 - Once in a Lifetime
@HylandJon: Remember that one time we were in DC and @switchfoot was playing around the corner from our hotel & we got to go? #onceinalifetime #tonight (October 3)

Sometimes bands need to see a concert as much as the fans. Hyland got an unexpected invitation to the Switchfoot show down the street due to a once-in-a-lifetime coincidence.

#8 - Alternate Incomes
@JustinF_WAH: I shaved today and all of the random cash donations from strangers have stopped. Bummer (October 3)

There are some definite benefits when the "rockstar" look blends into the "homeless" look. We As Human’s guitarist gave up his extra income this week in favor of a clean shave.

#9 - Quick Fix
@ChadMGraham: Know what fixes those awful noises u hear in your car? Turning up the music really loud. It works! Really (October 5)

Chad Graham of Anthem Lights has some great advice for all us with older cars: just turn the music up louder. This unfortunately probably doesn’t work for more than a few days, but it’s worth a try.

#10 - Cooking Advice
@b_reith: So... Does pancake mix go bad? It says "best if used by Oct 8 2011"-1 year ago. But, does it spoil? I ain't tryna get sick over a waffle :) (October 6)

Despite Jonny Diaz’s recklessness in the kitchen, artist B. Reith is playing it a bit safer. Health ranks a bit higher on his priority list than waffles.

TOP TEN PICTURES

#1 - Worship Bands
@MoriahPeters: I hope we can worship w/ accordions in Heaven http://instagr.am/p/QQEW4OiAGs/(October 1)

Moriah Peters doesn’t allow her worship tunes to be confined to any kind of box. She is a reminder that accordions can still make a joyful noise (in the right hands).

#2 - On the Road Again
@macpowell: Riding in the RV to Dallas from Houston. On the road again... http://twitpic.com/b10iz5 (October 4)

Mac Powell is spending some time in the deep south, trading tour bus for a more old-school RV. His recent country tune seems to be affecting his touring habits...

#3 - Secret Skills
@karijobe: A new instrument that I somehow just figured out I could play-- http://instagr.am/p/Qa2qLBBoUp/ (October 5)

Kari Jobe can play even instruments she doesn’t know she can play. Maybe we are destined to hear some ska during her future sets?

#4 - Crafty
@flyleafmusic: Pat working on Flyleaf artwork before we start practice today. http://instagr.am/p/QaIbWdA_nb/ (October 5)

Flyleaf takes a very hands-on approach to their art through the wood cuttings of bassist Pat Seals. The band shared this glimpse of the creative process via instagram.

#5 - Bright Futures
@NatalieGrant: And while the twins do school, Sadie's just working on a new song. #futurerecordingartist http://instagr.am/p/QaCP1_rX66/(October 5)

Natalie Grant is training her children right, with maybe some unusual homeschooling elements blended in. There may be side effects to being the daughter of a Christian artist and a Christian producer...

#6 - Riding in Style
@TFKTrevor: Just got to St.Johns, NL!! And no...we don't always get picked up in a stretched limo. Tomorrow it's on NL get ready! http://instagr.am/p/QbWIU7i4-f/ (October 5)

Thousand Foot Krutch got an upgrade before their show this week. They seem to have enjoyed it--maybe they could tour in a fleet of limos instead of a bus?

#7 - Playdough Duncan
@DuncanPhillips: Is this what I've been reduced to? @newsboys #fb @ Starbucks http://instagr.am/p/Qb2-E2lwJ-/ (October 5)

Newsboys drummer Duncan Phillips came across an even more flexible version of himself-- made from play dough. Late nights at Starbucks seem to bring out the unexpected creative in many of us.

#8 - Face Down
@loswhit: That time you drive by and see yourself on the back of a trailer. http://instagr.am/p/QceAoNPiSa/ (October 6)

Worship leader Carlos Whittaker came face to face with himself while driving from Atlanta this weekend.

#9 - Competition
@jonmicahsumrall: Looks like we have some competition tonight. Or is @justinbieber coming to the Kutless show? :) http://instagr.am/p/Qc3ggnuT5o/ (October 6)

Occupants of Pennsylvania might have had a challenging choice this weekend-- Kutless or Justin Bieber? Looks like maybe even Bieber was leaning towards the Kutless show.

#10 - Keep it Real
@coltondixon: First time I've ever used one of these..... Ears are so toasty!ha Switching it up a bit. #noshame pic.twitter.com/bbSZGHMP (October 6)

American Idol alumni and Christian artist Colton Dixon has to do something to ensure his hair retains the exactly right measure of spike-- and the artist isn’t ashamed of giving his followers a glimpse at the process. In his defense, it is almost impossible to look cool with a massive metal bowl over your head.

Mary is a Christ-follower and writer who has been telling stories for as long as she can remember. She recently earned a B.A. in Digital Writing and currently resides in Colorado Springs with a camera, guitar, and coffee cup always close at hand.
