Born and raised in Southern California,
Christina Falub discovered her talent as an influential singer at a very young age. Growing up, family and friends witnessed this little girl transform into a young woman with an extremely big voice. Christina involved herself in church choirs, worship services and has performed the National Anthem numerous times for her local high school, allowing her impactful voice to be used for a much greater purpose.
“Music is like a prayer. Everything can be spoken through a song,” explains Christina.
Growing up in a devout Christian home, it was early in her life that she realized her faith needed to become her very own decision to make. She desired something real, a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus. That essential realization paved the way for Christina to pick up a pen and begin putting her life, her love, and her heart into melodies and lyrics. Her shimmering melodies match the intensity of her heartfelt lyrics.
“My biggest inspiration is Jesus,” proclaims Christina. “The Lord always sings over me a new melody that echoes constantly in my mind and that’s how melodies come alive for my songs.”
Released in August 2011, Christina’s full-length debut album,
Swept Away, is a must-listen. Christina recognizes the incredible opportunity in front of her and she is determined to make the most of it. She is living her dream and looking forward to having us become a part of it.
“I’m so blessed and fortunate to have been given this opportunity!” she said. “I want to touch people with my music.” Christina's intimate vocals and worshipful songwriting are a refreshing surprise from a 18-year-old artist. Her 10-song debut is a beautiful and rich piece of art. Each song has a unique flavor that shows another side of her personality and gifts.
I had the great chance to interview Christina about her song “Love Is The Reversal.”
Regarding “Love Is The Reversal,” do you have any personal application regarding your walk as a Christian in the song? Please describe the message behind the song.
I wrote the song earlier this year, in January. I was on my way home from a long but successful day in the recording studio. I was thrilled to share the new and exciting things ahead of me with my family. My band had written all of the music and I co-wrote the lyrics with my sister Natalia and her husband Sammy that night. We all had ideas and they resonated beautifully. We all had the same scope of what we wanted to reflect in the song which was 2 Corinthians 6:9-10. That passage really reflects the reversal that we are called to as Christians. I had the privilege to make a music video for the song and released it as a single. It’s been an amazing journey and the Lord has been gracious and good.
Which Bible verses go with the song? Do you have a life verse?
2 Corinthians 6:9-10: “...regarded as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.”
How can listeners apply that message in their walks as Christians when they listen to the song?
This is what it says in that Bible passage: “known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.” The opposite in God’s eyes is offered to us. What this world has for us is nothing, but in Jesus He sees value in us for we are His beloved children.
Through God’s eyes we behold His glory and see the reversal, which in essence is Him, for God is love. God offers us hope, love, and life in Him. Through the shedding of Jesus’ blood on Calvary, we are justified in Him and see the reversal. It’s all centered around the main thing, God’s unfathomable love. That’s what sparked the song. In this life, we are not guaranteed to have everything. In Jesus, we have everything we need. His love completes us. God calls us to die to ourselves and our selfish desires and to have life in Him.
Lyrics:
I hear Your still small voice
In the midst of solitude
It’s reaching out to me
Carry me
I feel Your warm embrace
It grips me through the storm
An endless sea of love
Flooding over me
In Your eyes, love is the reversal
In Your heart, love is the reversal
In Your life, love is the reversal
Oh, oh, love is the reversal
Oh, oh, love is the reversal
Oh, oh, love is the reversal
You guide me in Your light
When darkness falls on me
And now I fully see
I can see
I choose to trust in You
In all I say and do
I am forever Yours
Forever Yours
In Your eyes, love is the reversal
In Your heart, love is the reversal
In Your life, love is the reversal
Oh, oh, love is the reversal
Oh, oh, love is the reversal
Oh, oh, love is the reversal
Matthew Henry’s commentary: “The apostles met with honor and dishonor, good report and evil report. They were slighted by the men of the world as unknown, men of no figure or account, not worth taking notice of; yet in all the churches of Christ they were well known, and of great account: they were looked upon as dying, being killed all the day long, and their interest was thought to be a dying interest; ‘and yet behold,’ says the apostle, ‘we live, and live comfortably, and bear up cheerfully under all our hardships, and go on conquering and to conquer.’ They were despised as poor, upon the account of their poverty in this world; and yet they made many rich, by preaching the unsearchable riches of Christ. They were thought to have nothing, and silver and gold they had none, houses and lands they had none; yet they possessed all things: they had nothing in this world, but they had a treasure in heaven. Their effects lay in another country, in another world. They had nothing in themselves, but possessed all things in Christ. Such a paradox is a Christian’s life, and through such a variety of conditions and reports lies our way to heaven; and we should be careful in all these things to approve ourselves to God.”
As an 18-year-old independent artist, Christina Falub has impressed me with her mature faith. Being a Christian father of three young daughters, her songs all reflect the yearning for Jesus I pray for my daughters' to feel in their hearts as well.
"Beauty in the Beast" and first single "Love Is the Reversal" are original songs, and Christina also made a cool music video for "Love Is the Reversal." With the types of influences in mainstream music teaching our young girls to seek approval from the world and from young men, Christina is a wonderful role model for young Christian girls as she passionately professes in her song, "I choose to trust in You, in all I say and do, I am forever Yours." Christina clearly loves our Lord and Savior Jesus with all of her heart.
