CHRISTIAN MUSIC TWEETS WITH MARY BURKLIN
#28 - Conversation Starters
Christian artists update fans throughout the week via Twitter and NRT's Mary Burklin uncovers the best tweets of the past seven days in this weekly column.

Along with buzz surrounding some notable releases on the calendar, the Twitterverse was bustling with stories of the unusual sights encountered on the road -- experiences that ultimately serve as some of the best conversation starters, on or off Twitter.

As always, if you'd like to keep tabs on over 1,200 Christian artists, check out our exclusive NRTwitter page to read the latest tweets from the Christian music community. And if you've discovered some great tweets of your own, feel free to pass them along by using the hashtag #nrtweets.

NEW VERSES

@sethinmotion: Just finished another killer @newsboys vocal session with tait...makin some kiiiiller progress! Wish u could all hear..
(August 21)

@sethinmotion: yfrog.com/khootrjj Big song with @disciplekevin @disciplerocks (August 22)

Seth Mosley (frontman for Me in Motion) continues to have a full schedule. This week he continued his ongoing work with Newsboys, but he also stepped far outside his genre to work with Kevin Young of Disciple.

@switchfoot: "the power of music to bring an incredibly diverse group of people together singing the same song" - Chad #viceverses bit.ly/quJXtL (August 22)

In anticipation of their new album, Switchfoot has been running a Twitter promotion that gives fans the chance to get a copy of their new record, Vice Verses, early. Fans just tweet what their own “vice verses” are, tagged with the #viceverses hashtag. The band members have each been doing this in video form as well.

@iconforhire: Hey everyone! Thank you so much for making SCRIPTED Number 16 on Itunes tonight! We're celebrating with chocolate cake....how about you?! (August 24)

This week, new Tooth & Nail band Icon For Hire released their debut, Scripted. The rock album has already been making a significant impact on the charts. The band couldn’t be more excited.

@KeptOnHold: Wow. :) can't even express how happy I am with the cd release show. Thank you so much for coming out. For prayers, for support. All of it. (August 26)

We Are Leo held a release party in their hometown in advance of their upcoming CD, which drops Aug. 30.

LIVESTOCK AND SNUGGIES

@rebeccabarlow: You know you have "made it" when... lockerz.com/s/132552979
(August 24)

There are many ways in which a band’s popularity can be marked. BarlowGirl reached a sheepish milestone this week. Livestock love “Baa”-lowGirl!

@Kerrie_Roberts: Public service announcement: You should not walk around in the airport wearing your snuggie like a robe. #notcute (August 27)

Just in case you are inclined toward this particular fashion choice, know that Kerrie Roberts doesn’t approve.

@mel___issa: So I am goin to b trying to get to 5000 followers over this tour starting thurs. There will be prizes and exclusives over the next month! (August 27)

Melissa Brock of Superchick will be attempting to gain more followers over the upcoming Music With a Mission Tour (sponsored by NRT). Feel free follow her, suggest her to friends, and catch Superchick if they’re coming near you.

@jonsteingard: Photo: Organized tour manager? Or bored tour manager? (Taken with instagram) t.co/oz2ACLa (August 27)

Just in case band members get lost, the Hawk Nelson bunks are neatly labeled.

@codydriggers: Leaving a small town Texas diner just in time to see an old man eyeball us and say to the other "I don't know, I guess they're in a gang." (August 27)

As The Wedding discovered, for some people apparently the line between “Christian rock band” and “gang” can be hard to draw.

SUGGESTIONS

@SDSJeremy: Twitter just suggested that I follow myself... Should I?
(August 25)

Jeremy of Seventh Day Slumber faced an existential social networking decision this week.

@KyleKupecky: Put my iPod on shuffle and it played sad song after sad song...it must have heard about Steve Jobs resigning (August 25)

Many artists this week posted tweets in response to the recent headline in the technology industry. Apparently even Anthem Lights member Kyle’s iPod was responding to the event.

@jonforeman: Auto-stash -your thoughts? @ Seminole, FL instagr.am/p/LUcPl/ (August 26)

Switchfoot, like other bands, has the opportunity to see some intriguing sights on the road. This week’s sighting promises to be a good conversation starter.

Mary Burklin is a college student who loves Jesus and seeks to echo His love in everything she does. She loves art in just about all forms, but music is her passion and where she feels most at home.
