CCM artist
Laura Kaczor (prounounced kuh-ZURE) continues to generate buzz while building a loyal fan base, as she is rapidly gaining momentum. Kaczor’s current single, “Alive in You,” debuted on Billboard’s Soft AC/Inspirational chart at No. 19, making the song the highest debut of that week.
The single was co-written by Kaczor, her producer--six-time Dove Award winner Don Koch (Phllips, Craig & Dean, NewSong)--and Dove award-winning writer, Chad Cates. A music video for the single was produced by Stephen Yake (newsboys, Michael W. Smith) and released July 5.
“Thank you so much to all of my radio friends and the faithful listeners,” exclaims Kaczor. “I'm so excited about the success of ‘Alive in You,’ as it's more than I ever dreamed. I've started this journey because I wanted to become a part of people's lives and to encourage them through every stage with the amazing hope we have in Jesus. I'm humbled by the privilege to be able to do that, and so much more. God is good!”
Kaczor’s previous single, “Invisible,” also garnered tremendous success by achieving a Top 25 on the Billboard chart, No. 7 on Christian Music Weekly’s Worship chart and No. 14 on CMW’s Soft AC/Inspirational chart, with over 100 radio stations playing the song. “Invisible” and “Alive In You” are from Kaczor’s debut album,
Love Enough, which was released through Universal MCG/Fontana distribution on LifeThirst Records/IE. Kaczor co-wrote 9 of the 10 songs on the album and collaborated with such high-profile writers such as Brian White--who has written 12 No. 1 singles--and Carl Cartee, a staff writer at Brentwood-Benson Music Publishing and founder of “Inspire” Worship Conferences.
I had the chance to interview Laura about her hit song “Alive In You.”
Please share the personal message behind writing the song “Alive In You.”
I co-wrote most of the songs on the album with my producer, Don Koch. The writing process was very organic and stemmed out of theological conversations that we were having. Don had the first line come to him: “It seems a contradiction, You would call me to die, to find life.” That idea of our contradiction in our Christian walks is about how when we die to ourselves and die to our flesh, we are made alive in Christ. That leads into the chorus that is a celebration of that Truth. Technically, we are dead to our flesh and we are new creations in Christ.
Please tell me about the Bible verses you used in writing the song.
2 Corinthians 5:16-19: “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”
… and
Galatians 6:14-15: “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Neither circumcision nor un-circumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation.”
What's the take-away message for listeners?
As an artist, it’s challenging because although I’m in the Christian genre, there are worldly pressures to fit in a certain way or look a certain way--the same as mainstream music. So as Christians, we all need to be aware of those pressures. We are called to be different, not just singing catchy tunes, but to declare the message of the Gospel that there’s hope in Jesus and He is the only answer for all of the problems in our lives. I feel like living that out on a day-to-day basis is the challenge. We’re called to be different, and it’s only in Jesus Christ that we’re alive. It’s not in our work, success, accomplishments, family or friends; it’s only in Jesus. That’s the message of this song.
Here are the lyrics:
It seems a contradiction
You would call me to die, to find life
This holy invitation
To come and carry the cross, no matter the cost
Oh what a sacred design
Only by your sacrifice
I’m alive in You
In all that You are
Your love is like water
To the desert of my heart
I’m alive in You
In the wonder of grace
And I stand amazed how You make me new
Ever breathing in Your truth
I’m alive in You
Oh Lord Your resurrection
Is all the hope I’ll ever need, and I believe
Such a sweet redemption
Always setting me free, You’re my King
For You have awakened my soul
Falling before your throne
I’m alive in You
In all that You are
Your love is like water
To the desert of my heart
I’m alive in You
In the wonder of grace
And I stand amazed how You make me new
Ever breathing in Your truth
I’m alive in You
So I will shout it to the heavens
That I’ve been changed
'Cause all my sins forever have been swept away
I’m alive in You
In all that You are
Your love is like water
To the desert of my heart
I’m alive in You
In the wonder of grace
And I stand amazed how You make me new
Ever breathing in Your truth
I’m alive in You
It seems a contradiction
That You would call me to die, to find life
Here’s Matthew Henry’s Bible commentary on 2 Corinthians 5:16-19: “The apostle proceeds in showing the reasons why they did not faint under their afflictions, namely, their expectation, desire, and assurance of happiness after death, and deduces an inference for the comfort of believers in their present state, and another to quicken them in their duty. Then he makes an apology for seeming to commend himself, and gives a good reason for his zeal and mentions two things that are necessary in order to our living to Christ, regeneration and reconciliation. In conclusion Paul says that, for the believer, circumcision or un-circumcision is of no importance. What does being a Jew or a Gentile matter, as long as one is a new creature in Christ?”
We must examine Jesus for ourselves; others cannot do it for us. Then, if we believe Jesus is who He says, we will want to speak up for Him. “Alive In You” is a great song celebrating the freedom we have in Christ when we are born again. Christians are brand new people on the inside. The Holy Spirit gives us new life and we are not the same anymore. We are new creations and we need to live under God’s authority.
Are you excited about God’s hope inside of you? Have you humbled yourself and asked Jesus to make you a new creation? I love the singing this song of faith to Jesus and tell Him plainly that “I’m alive in You.” Amen!
