CHRISTIAN MUSIC TWEETS WITH MARY BURKLIN
#20 - Festivities
Christian artists update fans throughout the week via Twitter and NRT's Mary Burklin uncovers the best tweets of the past seven days in this weekly column.

This week artists were busy tweeting and connecting through two of the major Christian festivals (Cornerstone and Creation Northeast). Meanwhile, it seems like all the artists NOT at those festivals were attending the U2 show in Nashville (and tweeting about it, of course).

As always, if you'd like to keep tabs on over 1,200 Christian artists, check out our exclusive NRTwitter page to read the latest tweets from the Christian music community.

AT THE MOVIES

@stellarkartband: Disney EP update: Still waiting for final copyright approval, then we go to print! We'll have a release date soon! Sorry for the delay.. (June 30)

Stellar Kart has been continuing to tease fans with news of their upcoming Disney EP. Apparently progress is being made, however slowly, and we can expect to see the promised collection of covers soon.

@lights: Such a stellar new video from @owlcity! http://tinyurl.com/3mttxyd I may or may not be in it, and may or may not be STOKED on that. (June 30)

Owl City released a somewhat surreal and imaginative music video this week for the song “Deer in the Headlights,” from the new All Things Bright and Beautiful album. The music videos features a cameo from fellow synth-pop artist LIGHTS.

@StarsGoDim: Debut of our "Hesitate" music video coming July 20th! We will post a new screen shot every few days. http://twitpic.com/5joina (July 1)

Stars Go Dim (the pop band that started as a side project of two former members of Pillar) will be releasing a music video later on this month. They've been sharing various screen shots from the music video via their Twitter in anticipation of the release.

@flyleafmusic: This is our perspective of the world from the studio windows. You should see the stars at night. I love Texas. -Sameer yfrog.com/h339258792j (July 1)

Flyleaf has been off the road for most of the year as lead singer Lacey welcomed her first child. However, they have not been idle, and fans can probably expect to see new music at some point next year.

CREATION, CORNERSTONE, AND CANDY

@JFrankenstein: The good: Rocked 80,000 people last night at a Festival The bad: In the crawl space fixing water leak in my house today.
(June 30)

Newsboys was one of the headliners at Creation East this year, playing for one of the biggest audiences in the country. However, keyboardist Jeff Frakenstein posted this reminder that they really are just normal people after all.

@TheMuseumMusic: More Creation fun with @newreleasetue radio!! http://fb.me/14IKvAgnU (June 30)

The Museum was just one of the artists to give shout-outs to the NewReleaseTuesday team at Creation Northeast this week.

@seth183: That's a beard #cornerstone twitpic.com/5j6txq (June 30)

Cornerstone Festival has also been taking place this week. Seth of Children 18:3 has been posting multiple updates of the sights and sounds of this festival, famous for harboring more of the hard rock crowd.

@ChrisAugust: 1. Had a very special morning with @morningcruise 2. This is only some of the candy I have received in the past 2 days. yfrog.com/h0rtozwj (June 30)

There are definite consequences to writing a song all about candy (such as Chris August's “Candy Wrap”). Chris August will probably never have to trick-or-treat again for the rest of his life.

@chuviolin: Rocked @CreationFest last night & saw the candle lighting for the first time. Beautiful, peaceful sight http://twitpic.com/5k51ba (July 2)

Jonathan Chu (violin player for Skillet) shared this picture of the traditional candle lighting at Creation Fest, taken during Tenth Avenue North's set.

@Ivoryline: Here's a cornerstone pic of us from two years ago! @cstn #cornerstonefestival Good memories. yfrog.com/gy90kxwej (July 2)

Ivoryline was not at Cornerstone this year, for the first time in 5 years. However, they did share an “throwback” picture to make up for their absence.

@iamempire: It is with sad hearts that we have to inform you we will not be making it to Creation East. Our second van has broken down.Be in MN 4 a week (June 30)

I Am Empire has had an incredibly rough month with van trouble, culminating in being trapped by flooding and then having their van break down. They would greatly appreciate prayers and support as they try to get back on the road.

U2 AT VU

@derekwebb: the #u2360 claw descends upon nashville twitpic.com/5jpw3j twitpic.com/5jpw3s (July 1)

On Saturday, July 2, legendary rock band U2 played at Vanderbilt University's stadium in Nashville. This was their first time in Nashville in 29 years, and the Twitter hype has been a good sign of exactly how highly anticipated the night was.

@scribblepotemus: So excited about the U2 concert tomorrow in Nashville. I'm not going to miss seeing them again! Wow. (July 2)

Dan Haseltine (of Jars of Clay) is one of many artists who set aside time to go and see U2 perform this weekend.

@adamagee: SPOILER ALERT for my Nashville friends: U2 does an encore! BOOM! (July 2)

Adam Agee's “spoiler” could be just as aptly applied to just about every rock show in the past 10 years.

@jonsteingard: Why is everyone in Nashville talking about YouTube more than normal today? (July 2)

Jon Steingard of Hawk Nelson took the opportunity to crack jokes using the band's name (which definitely lends itself nicely to puns).

@Stephanaynay: An hour ago @timhoh was throwing up and now he is standing next to me with tens of thousands of other people watching U2! #trooperaward ;) (July 2)

Stephanie Smith attended the show with her boyfriend (and House of Heroes frontman) Tim Skipper. Some things are worth overcoming stomach bugs for.

@itschristablack: Im at Chipotle on West End & can hear Bono singing from the stadium. Best Chipotle EVER. (July 2)

It's not every day that your Chipotle experience is accompanied by a serenade from Bono. Most of downtown Nashville could hear the concert, whether or not they actually had tickets.

EVERYDAY ADVENTURES

@davebarnesmusic: Just got a picture text from my mom of a Fred's storefront. This is funny because i went on a baseball card stealing spree in my youth

@davebarnesmusic: She drove me to every store to apologize. They all thought i was so cute & sweet they didn't punish me. She still did. #onlythegooddieyoung
(June 30)

Dave Barnes shared this entertaining story from his childhood. There’s no justice like parental justice.

@owlcity: Form thy facial features into an amused expression for thou art the hoofed grazing animal in the luminescent lights of a horseless carriage. (June 30)

In honor of the release of his music video, Adam Young posted several re-phrased lines from his song “Deer in the Headlights.” Somehow it just doesn't flow quite as well this way...

@joshwilson: In Nashville we have awful mosquitos and cicadas. I can't imagine if they had babies. "Moscadas." The world's worst bug. #fb (June 30)

For the past several months there has been a significant concentration of tweets related to cicadas from artists in Nashville. Judging by Josh Wilson's tweet, the mosquitoes are equally bad, but at least they haven't combined forces yet.

@REILLYband: Any other coffee drinkers out there? REILLY survives by the grace of God...and the power of a good cup of Coffee. (June 30)

A lot of musicians rely on coffee to make it through the long hours on the road. Maybe Reilly should employ Chris August's technique and write a song about coffee in order to acquire a lifetime supply...

Mary Burklin is a college student who loves Jesus and seeks to echo His love in everything she does. She loves art in just about all forms, but music is her passion and where she feels most at home.
