CHRISTIAN MUSIC TWEETS WITH MARY BURKLIN
#16 - Far and Away
Christian artists update fans throughout the week via Twitter and NRT's Mary Burklin uncovers the best tweets of the past seven days in this weekly column.

Lots of artists were on the move this week, using their tweets to stay connected as they toured, went on mission trips, and traveled for the sake of adventure. Of course, tweets were constantly dropping with the typical excitement regarding new albums and the wisdom and chatter from everyday life.

As always, if you'd like to keep tabs on over 1,200 Christian artists, check out our exclusive NRTwitter page to read the latest tweets from the Christian music community.

ON THE HORIZON

@charliepeacock: All prayers and kindnesses welcome today as I start my first solo record in 12 years. Here we go. Music is a grace. Much gratitude to God. (June 2)

Producer and engineer Charlie Peacock (Switchfoot, Nichole Nordeman, Audio Adrenaline, The Civil Wars) will be working on some new tunes of his own. Considering the success of many of the albums he has produced, his solo record will be well worth watching for.

@matthammitt: I'm so grateful for all the people talking and tweeting about "All of Me." I can't believe it's still top 10! (June 1)

Matt Hammitt (lead singer of Sanctus Real) released the first song that came out of his experiences during his son Bowen's health struggles. The song has been extremely well received, and is now available on iTunes.

@RoyalTailor: Thanks to all of our fans and friends!! If God be for us, WHO?! Nobody. Let's keep pump'in out this positive energy & change the WORLD!!! (June 3)

Royal Tailor is new to the scene, but their debut album Black & White is already making an impact. They released the album as well as an accompanying music video this week.

@josephrojas: Check our facebook! We will be giving you a chance to hear pieces of 1 new song per week starting this Sat. "Anthem Of Angels" count down!! (June 3)

Seventh Day Slumber has completed “Anthem of Angels,” which will be the follow up to 2009's “Take Everything.” As indicated by Joseph Rojas, the lead singer, they will be giving fans a look at the new project through their Facebook page.

GETTING THERE

@TheAndrewSchwab: In Denver. Denver airport always creeps me out. And why is it 300 miles from the city of Denver? They should call it Nebraska airport. (June 1)

Andrew Schwab (of Project 86) found himself in the infamously creepy Denver airport this week while traveling. He provided some commentary on the odd location as well as the general atmosphere.

@christomlin: Thanks for the nice welcome for our first time in Switzerland. Now on to Germany...first time as well:) (June 1)

Chris Tomlin has been doing a significant amount of traveling, taking his well-loved worship anthems to Europe.

@laurenabarlow: Italy is like never land. It makes me forget... Also, there are a lot of men flying around in green tights but that's besides the point. (June 3)

The Barlow sisters have been spending a week in Italy. Lauren has been sharing snapshots from the experience (as well as a strong dose of entertaining commentary) through her tweets.

INJURIES AND IRONY

@thejasondunn: I asked the doctor when my finger gets better if I'd be able to play the flute. He said I could. Cool! I've never been able to before!!
(June 1)

Jason Dunn of Hawk Nelson seriously injured his finger this week. Despite the injury to his finger, his sense of humor was apparently still in full working order.

@jonsteingard: If you're looking for truth, it doesn't start with a www. (June 2)

Despite the slight irony inherent in sharing a warning about the Internet on the Internet, Hawk Nelson guitarist Jon Steingard's statement is still wise.

@stephenanberlin: xmen got me. i waited till after the credits at the midnight viewing here in chicago & NOTHING! no previews or hints. #ireallycantstand (June 4)

A lot of artists were tweeting about seeing the latest in the X-Men saga on opening night. Anberlin's frontman passed on a warning about the lack of an after-the-credits segment.

UPS AND DOWNS

@ChapStique: The #1 distraction in my life that keeps me from practicing guitar and writing is working on business for the band. #that'skindofironic
(June 1)

Chap Stique of Family Force 5 shared what seems to be a relatively common frustration for artists who unfortunately are still required to pay attention to business.

@koreycooper: Woke up in Arkansas & thought,"I get2blow stuff up today" like the stage and your face..I love my job (June 4)

Skillet's live show is well known for its strong use of pyrotechnics, something that apparently still excites the band members. The summer festival season always brings out the best in their stage production.

@adamagee: Wanna help me come up w/ a new name for soundcheck? I'm thinking like "death hour" or "torture time" or "I hate everythingville" (June 3)

Rock and roll isn't all glamorous. Sound check is a widely known enemy of artists, as Adam of Stellar Kart pointed out again.

HELPING HANDS

@superchicktrish: Its the little ways we can make people feel valued and loved. Or the opposite. Love doesn't have room for selfishness.
(June 1)

Tricia Brock of Superchic[k] (who is preparing for the release of her solo worship album “This Road”) shared this thought on serving others this week.

@brandonheath: From Team B - 4th Annual @luvyourneighbor benefit raised $25,000+ for AL tornado victims. More info at http://brandonheath.net/updates (June 2)

Brandon Heath held a very successful benefit concert with talented artists Chris Ingram, Kari Jobe, and Chris August in order to raise money to aid victims of the Alabama tornadoes. A full report is provided on his website.

@markhallCC: Cruise with a Cause: Jamaican government has invited our 100+ teams to share the gospel in public school assemblies! Please pray for us! (June 1)

@markhallCC: Great time in Jamaica! Many were saved! Heading home now! (June 4)

Several members of Casting Crowns spent time on a very special cruise this week, designed to spread the gospel of Christ to kids in Jamaica. The trip seems to have been a success.

SOCIAL MEDIA

@lights: Vengeance is not mine. If it was there are a few people who would have a replica Lord of the Rings sword tip at their nose.
(June 1)

Synthpop artist LIGHTS shared this entertaining take on the often-quoted Bible verse.

@BartMillard: Definition of "Twambush" Quoting someone's random remark on twitter without them knowing..until they read it on twitter. #mm (June 2)

Considering how often this seems to happen to the various members of MercyMe, it is only fitting that their frontman would share the definition on his Twitter.

@mikescheuchzer: Interchangeable with social media, right??? RT @owlcity Wait, what's a social life? (June 4)

MercyMe guitarist Mike Scheuchzer responded to Adam Young's tweet in order to intensify the point. It is always entertaining to see the way that artists interact via social media.

@WitnessTheRise: I'll take one of these, add bacon please. yfrog.com/5pno3xj (June 4)

Mike Dodson (of David Crowder*Band) discovered a very interesting concoction that apparently was not interesting enough. This might qualify as the most interesting food tweet of the week.

@kj52: Photo: A friend from highschool posted a pic of my 1st EP I recorded in 1994. Get ya laugh on.. http://tumblr.com/x122uelmik (June 4)

Rapper KJ-52 has not always been as chill as he is now.

Mary Burklin is a college student who loves Jesus and seeks to echo His love in everything she does. She loves art in just about all forms, but music is her passion and where she feels most at home.
