The Twitterverse was even busier than usual this past week due to the 2011 GMA Dove Awards. The biggest night in Christian music kept artists tweeting before, during and long after the event.
As always, if you'd like to keep tabs on over 1,150 Christian artists, check out our exclusive
NRTwitter page to read the latest tweets from the Christian music community.
DOVES TWEETS
@markhallCC: Working thru parts for Dove performance tonight! Me Mac and Steven: http://moby.to/evklea (April 20)
Casting Crowns, headed by Mark Hall, was one of the bands who performed at the Dove Awards. They spent the day of practicing.
@6stringhero: I guess the traffic doesn't know who I am and that I've gotta get to the #doveawards http://twitgoo.com/27x461 (April 20)
Speaking of Casting Crowns, guitarist Juan DeVevo had a bit of trouble getting there through Atlanta gridlock. Fortunately, he did manage to get through traffic in time.
@BartMillard: iPhone's make all awards shows AWESOME!!! #mm (April 20)
MercyMe frontman Bart Millard's observation is definitely relevant. Smartphones and Twitter make events like the Doves much more entertaining for both artists and fans at home. Maybe he was just bored? Or looking up other artists on Wikipedia? Who knows!
@matthammitt: My phone broke yesterday, so I've been without. Bummed that I can't send random Dove tweets:) (April 20)
Not everyone was contributing to the Twitterstorm. Although Sanctus Real was present at the Dove Awards (they performed with fellow nominees Tenth Avenue North), lead singer Matt Hammitt's Twitter wings were clipped.
@disciplerocks: Red won rock song with "Start Again." I accepted the award on their behalf, and put Randy on speakerphone. It was awesome (April 20)
Although RED won the Best Recorded Rock Song Dove Award, the band's aggressive touring schedule prevented them from accepting the award in person. Kevin Young (whose band, Disciple, had been nominated for the same award) graciously took the stage to help Randy accept via speakerphone.
@aaronshust: Sad to miss CCM's Superbowl (Doves) tonight, but excited about practicing for the Superbowl of all Christianity (Easter)! (April 20)
Even the artists who were not present were contributed. Aaron Shust provided this interesting analogy. Shust, known for “My Savior, My God,” was a part of the Easter services at his home church.
@scribblepotemus: I hope someone thanks @realrobbell or hoobastank in their acceptance speech. (April 20)
Dan Haseltine (of Jars of Clay) also wasn't present at the Dove Awards (though their album The Shelter was nominated). He did, however, offer some creative and controversial advice for memorable acceptance speeches.
@francescamusic: I don't have words for tonight yet. I'll try tomorrow. #humbled (April 21)
Francesca Battistelli took home three Doves (for Female Vocalist of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year). She was both overwhelmed and grateful.
@markhallCC: I don't know if you're know this but I had a pretty good night at the doves last night. This pic speaks for itself http://yfrog.com/h0mcbdpj (April 21)
Although we don't have the true story behind this picture, it is definitely entertaining.
IN OTHER NEWS
@robgrav3s: Me, @jasenrauch and @wavorlydave in the same room with a piano and guitars. Things are happening. Music too. (April 20)
Producer Rob Graves tweeted that he was working in the studio with Jasen Rauch (RED) and Dave Stovall (Wavorly). Could this have anything to do with Wavorly's rumored upcoming release? Stay tuned to find out...
@crowderband: @crowderband, @gungormusic, @johnnarkmc, and @chrisaugust! 'The 7 Tour'. Pre-sale tickets to be announced Friday! (April 20)
@
crowderband: Big tour news! Instead of @johnnarkmc we have @johnmarkmcjoining us in the fall! (April 20)
David Crowder*Band announced a Fall tour with an absolutely fantastic line-up (Gungor, John Mark McMillan (not “John Nark” as the first typoed tweet stated, and subsequent tweet jokingly corrected), and Christ August). You can find the link to presale tickets on their Twitter. This is definitely worth attending for fans of worship music.
@skilletmusic: GREAT NEWS! Skillet Nominated For 2011 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS http://atlr.ec/hmd0Ly http://fb.me/xBTpvmsw (April 20)
Skillet's significant impact on the charts since the 2009 release of
Awake has earned them a spot in Billboard's Music Awards with nominations for Top Christian Artist and Top Christian Album. Check the link for more details.
@owlcity: Track 8 off of All Things Bright and Beautiful entitled "Galaxies" is now available on iTunes! Enjoy: http://goo.gl/b43O3 #ATBAB (April 20)
Adam Young/Owl City has been continuing to share tracks from his highly anticipated June release. Another song has now trickled onto iTunes.
PERSPECTIVE
@ethanluck: I wonder if "Christian music" fans will ever realize the bands they love are made up of human beings. (April 19)
Ethan Luck of Relient K posted this reminder on his twitter. It was definitely timely considering the Dove Awards. Perspective is important. Musicians aren't super-humans or angelic beings.
@mikedonehey: When I had a kiss that would betray, you had hands to wash my feet. When I had rebellion in my skin, you had scars to bring me peace. (April 22)
Mike Donehey (lead singer of Tenth Avenue North) posted this thought for Good Friday. Other later posts rumor that this is part of the lyrics for a new song titled “The Fighter.” Check Mike's Twitter page to read more.
@jonsteingard: Video: Jason gets TAZED by a police officer! http://tumblr.com/xsz27uy9ox (April 22)
Jason Dunn of Hawk Nelson volunteered himself to be tazed by a police officer, and guitarist Jon Steingard was kind enough to share the event with fans on tumblr.
