Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we have listed a few highlights and included the rest for your review. As always, follow our New Christian Rap and Hip-Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
CULT CLASSIC, VOL. 1 by Marty Apollo Records’ frontman Marty returns with another brilliant project. CULT CLASSIC, VOL. 1 blends nostalgia with forward-thinking and edgy lyricism. The eight songs included were all inspired by music Marty fell in love with early on related to hip-hop. The project is injected with Marty’s typical confidence, vulnerability, and humorous content.
Guest features included on the project are Brenno, Ryan Ellis, Tommy Zuko, Bodie, and longtime sidekick Fern. Personal favorites are “NED FLANDERS” featuring Brenno, “CUT THE CHECK!” featuring Fern, and “VEGGIE TALES.” One of the aspects of Marty’s music I adore is we both love the same hip-hop elements including sound experimentation, boom-bap production, and spitfire lyricism. The random humorous undertones here and there are just added bonuses.
The definition of what is considered a “cult classic” has sort of always defined Marty and Social Club/Social Club Misfits. Music for the “true” fan. Underground sound. The mainstream masses don’t always see the underlying value, but the core audience appreciates and drastically covets each artistic approach.

Donutello and Mike Teezy - "Up To Something" Independent artist Donutello and MTEntertainment’s Mike Teezy link up for a R&B-laced summer heater. The single revolves around the goodness, grace, and love of God being always “Up To Something” when problems or obstacles arise. Each artist showcases not only their lyricism abilities, but also timely harmonies throughout. It’s the near-perfect blend of hip-hop and soul married in the name of brilliance.
When asked about the heart behind the track, Donutello had this to say, "{C}{C}{C}{C}{C}Galatians 6:9 - Don't be weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. The heart behind this song is to illustrate resting in the joy of the Lord no matter the circumstances. Good, bad, trials, tribulations, we know that all things are working together for our Good, and that God's plan for us is to prosper us... therefore, we can smile through it all as a reflection of the joy we have in the Lord because His joy is our strength!{C}{C}{C}{C}{C}"
YP aka Young Paul feat. H.U.R.T and R-Swift - "WHITE TEES" G.O.T.E.’s YP aka Young Paul teams up with Royal Priest Hood’s H.U.R.T and independent Houston’s own rapper R-Swift. YP specializes in “gritty hip-hop” directed towards outreach for the streets. YP injects hope, love, and compassion towards those in need and those who rarely see “a way out”. I respect the rawness behind all three contributors to the content as well as the iconic boom-bap sound which always takes me back nearly three decades when I fell in love with hip-hop. This isn’t one of those “feel good” tracks or something you’d hear on the radio, it’s a message of hope to those in need the most. Stream “WHITE TEES” on Spotify and Apple Music.
