Rising Christian artist Saphire is quickly emerging as a powerful voice of honesty, healing, and faith through her music. With deeply personal songs such as “You’re Still Good,” “The Light,” and “Here at the Table,” she invites listeners into her journey through mental health struggles, heartbreak, and unwavering trust in God.

In this exclusive interview, Saphire shares how her life experiences—from childhood songwriting to a calling in ministry—have shaped her latest music and message, pointing others to the light of Jesus even in life’s darkest moments.

Please introduce yourself and share how you got started in music.

When I was about five years old, I started writing songs—on the bus, in my bedroom, honestly, anywhere. That’s always been how I express my heart. I’ve always been very empathetic and emotional, really in touch with my feelings, so songwriting became my way of processing everything I was going through growing up.

When I turned 13, I was bullied to the point of not wanting to be here. After that, I felt like the Lord was calling me to sing and speak in schools. At 14, I started traveling across Minnesota, sharing about suicide prevention, mental health, and anti-bullying. That really grew during my senior year, and I was able to do it full-time.

That’s when I fell in love with music and knew it was something God was calling me into. I moved to Nashville for a couple of years, but then felt led to move back home to Minnesota and lay my music career down for about seven years. Eventually, God opened the door again, and I stepped back into it—and here we are now.

You’ve released several singles recently. Can you walk us through the stories behind them?

Absolutely. My first Christian EP was recorded here in Nashville with someone I had worked with when I was 17. Back then, I made a country EP, but I quickly realized that wasn’t really where my heart was. I wanted to focus on Christian music.

My first single was “You’re Still Good,” which came out of my infertility journey. It was really a letter to God, asking Him to remind me that He’s still good—even in heartbreak and unanswered prayers. Then I released “Breakthrough,” which is a more fun, upbeat song.

This past year’s singles have been especially meaningful. “The Light” is about my journey with mental health—it’s like a letter to someone who feels like they don’t want to be here anymore. “Here at the Table” is about betrayal, and I was honestly terrified to release that one. But I felt God telling me to share it, and that He would protect me through it.
Then there are songs like “Circles” and “Jealous,” which I also love. It’s been a special year.

Mental health is a strong theme in your music. Why is that so important to you?

Mental health matters so much to me because I’ve lived it. It’s deeply rooted in who I am. Since I’ve gone through those struggles, I feel called to help others walk through them too—to sit with people in those dark places and remind them they’re not alone. I want people to know that others are going through this, too, and that we can walk through it together. And ultimately, that God is light.

What is your songwriting process like?

One of the most important things I do when I come to Nashville to write is spend time in prayer. I ask the Lord what He wants me to write about and what people need to hear. My goal as an artist is to be completely honest. I want people to know that you can have strong faith and still struggle. You can love Jesus deeply and still experience doubt, fear, and uncertainty. I feel called to hold both—to show that those things can coexist. Being authentic in my writing is the most important thing to me.

You’ve already seen a strong response from listeners. What has it been like hearing how your music is impacting people?

Honestly, I cry a lot. When people are vulnerable enough to share their stories with me and tell me how a song has impacted them, it means everything. I feel so honored to be a vessel for God in that way. And I don’t take it lightly when someone trusts me with their story—it’s special.

Your music spans different styles—pop, worship, and more. Why do you enjoy that variety?

I’ve never wanted to be put in a box. I feel called to follow whatever God puts on my heart, whether that’s a pop song, something more emotional, or a worship track. I don’t want to limit myself to one category. I just ask God, “What do You want this to sound like?”—and then I go for it.

What has it meant to be part of the NRT Music community?

It’s been so fun and such an honor. I love being part of NRT Music and connecting with the other artists—listening to their hearts and their music. It’s been an incredible experience.

What can fans look forward to next?

Well, I’m in Nashville right now. I'm working on some new things.

How can people be praying for you?

I would love prayer to continue this ministry in an authentic way, no matter what that looks like. And also for courage—to be bold and obedient in whatever God is calling me to do, even if it sounds crazy, and not be distracted by what others are doing or saying.
