Christian worship artist Josh Baldwin recently released his uplifting new worship anthem, “Salvation Song,” from his latest project, Full Grown Man Vol. 1. The track is sonically vibrant and lyrically rich, inviting listeners into sincere, God-exalting worship. From the first listen, it’s easy to sing along and be drawn into its refreshing declaration of faith.
Baldwin recently toured with country Christian artist Anne Wilson, performing songs from his album Made for More, including “Evidence,” “Narrow Road,” and “There Is Freedom.” He first gained widespread recognition with “Stand in Your Love” from Bethel Music’s Victory album and has remained a key voice within the Bethel Music community.
I spoke with Josh about “Salvation Song,” the heart behind his new music, and how this season reflects both personal and spiritual growth.
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
“Salvation Song” emerged from my desire for a simple, altar-call-style song about the ease and beauty of calling on Jesus. This song is a straightforward, honest piece about finding grace when you call His name. It is meant to be a powerful reminder that salvation isn't complicated, even if the journey is long.
I hope this song touches the hearts of those who’ve never surrendered to the Lord, guiding them to feel that pull toward Him. My hope is that it reminds us how beautifully simple it really is: all we have to do is call on the name of Jesus—and He will answer.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV): "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
Colossians 1:24-26 (NKJV): "I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints."
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV): “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”
John 3:11 (VOICE): “I tell you the truth: we speak about the things we know, and we give evidence about the things we have seen, and you choose to reject the truth of our witness.”
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV): “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV): "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
What is the takeaway message?
The song aims to capture the moment someone calls out to Jesus and receives grace. While "Made for More" focuses on identity, "Salvation Song" simplifies the Gospel to its core act of receiving grace, offering a different perspective on finding purpose through Christ. This song serves as a personal anthem, reminding me and listeners that even when life feels distant from salvation, calling on Jesus brings immediate help.
Lyrics
Salvation isn’t way out in the distance It’s not a puzzle waiting to be solved New life can be yours within an instant All you have to do is simply call
When we call on the Name of Jesus We find all of the grace we’ve needed It doesn’t matter how far you’ve strayed away Call on His Name, and You will be saved
Nothing is too heavy for the altar His yoke is easy and His burden light No treasure that this world could ever offer Could compare to knowing Jesus Christ
For God so loved the world He sent His Son to die For all who will believe in Him Will find eternal life
There’s nothing else to say but thank You, Jesus Lord knows that we could never earn this love You did all the work to make it easy So, all we have to do is simply call Yeah, all you have to do is simply call
Closing Thoughts
The enthusiasm and energy of “Salvation Song” are infectious. The message encourages listeners to reflect on their own doubts and to rely on Jesus and the power of His resurrection, remembering that He has overcome death and fear. That's reason to celebrate and gives Christians everywhere the faith to believe.
This song reminds us to see ourselves as God does. What a powerful message of redemption: grace is an unearned favor and a free gift. Remember that "while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Clearly, some truths we can rally behind as believers in Christ are that God is our Father, sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins, and that He rose again and defeated death. Christians are new creations on the inside.
The Holy Spirit gives us new life, and we no longer need to live with guilt, fears, or worries. We are born again, and we must live as children of God. Too often, we get caught up in our circumstances and fall into negative thoughts, allowing the enemy to define our self-worth.
Jesus died on the cross to set us free from the battle of our minds, from sin and death, and He wants us to live an abundant life in Him. What a wonderful, encouraging truth. We all hold false beliefs about ourselves. Also, we have an enemy who doesn't like us. He has a voice and speaks to us, but God's love’s voice is louder.
If you’ve ever felt uneasy or lacked peace, you understand that God often uses these feelings to stir us, unsettle us, and help us embrace new perspectives. Many believers still struggle with the idea that we must prove ourselves worthy before God. Apostle Paul tells us in his letter to the Colossians that we should rejoice in our sufferings, as they bring us closer to Christ.
Be free from those doubts about yourself and know with certainty: “For God so loved the world/He sent His Son to die/For all who will believe in Him/Will find eternal life.” Amen to that.
