After years of performing backup vocals with Grammy award-winning artist Lauren Daigle and ministering through powerful collaborations with Maverick City Music and global worship tours, Lizzie Morgan is stepping into the spotlight with the announcement of her debut as a solo artist.
Rising worship artist and powerhouse vocalist Lizzie Morgan recently released her album, Not My Will. Across eight tracks that range from anthemic to introspective, Morgan invites listeners to walk with her as she details her journey of faith. It was one of my top 10 worship albums of 2025.
Lizzie channels Mary of Bethany's devotion in her worship song "Let the Alabaster Break / Alabaster Box" -- a stirring anthem that echoes the heart of surrender and sacrificial worship. Inspired by the biblical story of Mary (John 12:1--8, Luke 7:36--50), Lizzie's song is a modern-day expression of pouring out one's all before the feet of Jesus. I had the chance to speak with Lizzie about her empowering title track, "Not My Will."
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
"Not My Will" comes from the phrase "Not my will, but yours be done," represents my personal struggle and eventual embrace of relinquishing my own plans for God's. This song came out of my most difficult but also the most rewarding part of a recent life season. The message behind the song is about learning to lay down my own dreams and trust that God's path is better than anything I could have imagined for myself. I've learned the cost of obedience, but I've also seen the incredible blessing that comes with it. My hope is that when people hear this song, they feel seen in the tension of surrender, but also encouraged, knowing that on the other side of their "yes" is God's perfect will, and there's truly nothing better than that.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Psalm 37:4-5 (NIV): "Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and he will do this."
Psalm 33:20-22 (MSG): "We're depending on God; He's everything we need. What's more, our hearts brim with joy since we've taken for our own His holy name. Love us, God, with all you've got--that's what we're depending on."
Luke 22:42 (NIV): "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
Acts 2:28 (VOICE): Instead, You direct me on a path that leads to a beautiful life. As I walk with You, the pleasures are never-ending, and I know true joy and contentment.
2 Corinthians 2:15 (NIV): For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
John 15:20 (NIV): Remember what I told you: 'A servant is not greater than his Master.' If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed My teaching, they will obey yours also.
What is the takeaway message?
This song reflects my personal experience, and my prayer is that this album's worship songs will help others feel seen and closer to God, even when trusting in His way feels hard. This album is incredibly personal, filled with songs that reflect my journey with the Lord and the many ways He's carried me through different seasons of life. I hope this worship project, which incorporates storytelling and personal testimonies, will resonate with listeners and make them feel that their own stories are being told.
Lyrics
Oh, it's not my will
I don't wanna just look the part
To everybody else but You, everybody else but You
And I don't wanna just say the words
And never really fully see everything You have for me
Not my will but Yours be done
Not my way but what You want
In my life, Your Kingdom come
I'm fully surrendered, fully surrendered
Oh, I'm laying it all down
And I don't wanna just go so far
And never really get too deep, never really get too deep, oh
I am here to give You my heart, it's Yours
Lord, I wanna fully see everything You have for me, yeah
Not my will but Yours be done
Not my way but what You want
In my life, Your Kingdom come
I'm fully surrendered, fully surrendered
Take my future, take my past
All I am and all I have
I am holding nothing back
I'm fully surrendered, fully surrendered
You don't lose when you surrender
You can't lose when you surrender
I say yes
I say amen
You just ask
Lord, here I am
I say yes
I say amen
You just ask
Lord, here I am
I say yes
I say amen (You just ask)
You just ask (Here I am)
Lord, here I am (I say yes)
Yes, I say yes (My answer is yes)
I say amen (You just ask)
You just ask (Lord, here I am)
Lord, here I am (I say yes)
I say yes
I say amen (my answer is yes)
You just ask (my answer is yes, fully devoted, fully surrendered)
Lord, here I am (I say yes)
I say yes (my answer is yes)
I say amen (my answer is yes)
You just ask (Lord, here I am) (I'm Yours, I'm Yours)
Lord, here I am
Not my will but Yours be done
Not my will but Yours be done
I know Your way is better
Not my will but Yours be done
Not my way but what You want
In my life, Your Kingdom come
I'm fully surrendered, fully surrendered
Closing Thoughts
Do we have the faith to recognize that God uses trials in our lives to refine us and remind us of our need for Him, or are we forsaking God in those times? It comes by making trials work to the advantage of the believer. It sounds great, but it is not easy to do. Each situation requires perception, evaluation, and an informed response. It is within reach through prayer, including The Lord's prayer: "Thy will be done."
Believing the words of this song is a great way to work on the disciplines of self-examination and prayer. Jesus died on the cross to set us free from the battle of our minds, from sin and death. And He wants us to have abundant life in Him. What a wonderful, encouraging truth.
The song challenges me to think about what I'm allowing to rule in my heart instead of giving myself completely to God. Lizzie is clearly in love with Jesus, and the way these songs on Not My Will convey her relationship with our Lord and Savior is truly inspiring and convicting. From this song, I am challenged to commit to pray more fervently, study God's Word more diligently and give more sacrificially. This is a great song that stirs my heart and increases my convictions to grow closer to God during my worship and devotional time.
This song is all about trusting in God and confessing to Him and others when you fail or have struggles. Lay those at the feet of Jesus, and He'll take them from you and release you from that burden. God wants to hear from you. What I love about this song is that it includes a testimony of submission to the Lord that we can all pray about our personal struggles.
Our weaknesses are nothing to hide. In fact, because of our weaknesses God's grace and strength are perfectly revealed. I can't get enough of Lizzie's sincere vocals and catchy, worshipful songs.
If you don't know how to word your prayers of thankfulness for what Jesus has done for you, just sing along with this incredible song of faith.
We all need to remember that we're not able to save ourselves. Only Jesus can give us our true identity. Through our identity in Christ, we can be free from the burden of guilt and shame and fear, and sing along, "Not my will but Yours be done/Not my way but what You want/In my life, Your Kingdom come/I'm fully surrendered, fully surrendered." Amen to that.
