Popular artist Colton Dixon continues to pour faith, vulnerability, and bold hope into every track he releases, and his latest single, “The Love I Have For You,” is no exception. The song has quickly become a standout hit—an anthemic reminder of God’s steady, relentless love amid anxiety, exhaustion, and life’s constant demands. With its soaring melody and Scripture-rooted lyrics, the track captures the universal experience of feeling overwhelmed yet held together by a Father who promises strength, peace, and presence.
In this exclusive Behind the Song feature, Colton shares the personal moments that inspired the single, the passages of Scripture woven into its message, and the powerful truth he hopes every listener takes away.
“The Love I Have For You” is more than a radio hit—it’s a declaration of God’s faithfulness, born from Colton’s own struggles with burnout, pressure, and the need to lean into Jesus for strength.
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
The past few years have been incredible; however, I was really running on fumes at times while trying to balance work, life, family, and everything in between. I prayed, "God, help me here, because I don’t know how much longer I can do this." I went back to Romans 8:37. To paraphrase, it says, "We are more than conquerors because of the love that lives inside of us." I felt like simply being a "conqueror" would’ve been okay, but He says, "You’re going to absolutely get through whatever you’re facing because of how much I love you and the love you carry within."
I can get into striving mode as a creative, and it spills over into other parts of my life. Resting in the fact that the creator of the universe loves me is special, though. The song reminds me that with God’s love, there’s nothing I can’t handle.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV): “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Romans 8:37 (NKJV): “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
Romans 8:28 (VOICE): “We are confident that God can orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.”
Philippians 4:11 (VOICE): I am not saying this because I am in need. I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances.
1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV): “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
Psalm 55:22 (NIV): “Cast your cares on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV): "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
Zephaniah 3:17 (VOICE): “The Eternal, your God, is standing right here among you, and He is the champion who will rescue you. He will joyfully celebrate over you; He will rest in His love for you; He will joyfully sing because of you like a new husband.”
Hebrews 11:1 (NLT): "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."
What is the takeaway message?
When I feel exhausted and overwhelmed, I know I need to pray for help and lean into God's love for strength and reassurance. I have found that many listeners also experience feelings of overwhelm. The song acts as a personal journal entry, reminding us of God's constant presence through both good times and bad. God's love is an unstoppable force, a wave of comfort that keeps you steady whether you're on a "mountaintop" or "in the valley." This song is a declaration of faith and a message of hope for anyone who has felt drained or overwhelmed by life's challenges.
Lyrics
Woke up feeling anxious Happens on occasion The feelings I don’t deal with Overflowing from the basement I think I’ve hit a limit God, it’s been a minute Couple heartbreaks, couple hard days Since I paid you a visit
So here I am Back again Askin’ how I’m ever gonna make it out You told me once You told me twice You’ll say it again A thousand times
With the love I have for you Ain’t a mountain you can’t move In the dark, I’ll be the light In the fight, I’m by your side When you’re weak, I’ll be strong Your hallelujah song Oh, you’re gonna make it through With the love I have for you
Can’t hear when the phone calls Not there when the tree falls In the same way, yeah, blind faith Is the end all and the be all Going through the motions Missing all the moments Time flies, and like that I’m right back to broken, but
You told me once You told me twice You’ll say it again A thousand times
With the love I have for you Ain’t a mountain you can’t move In the dark, I’ll be the light In the fight, I’m by your side When you’re weak, I’ll be strong Your hallelujah song Oh, you’re gonna make it through With the love I have for you
No better kind No greater truth The love that I I have for you It’s river-wide It’s to the moon You’ll be alright You’ll make it
With the love I have for you Ain’t a mountain you can’t move In the dark, I’ll be the light In the fight, I’m by your side When you’re weak, I’ll be strong Your hallelujah song Oh, you’re gonna make it through With the love I have for you
Closing Thoughts
“The Love I Have For You” is a very convicting and sobering reminder that God brings trials to remind us how much we need Him.
The song's message encourages you to look beyond your doubts. It urges you to consider how Jesus invites you to depend on Him and the power of His resurrection. Remember that He has conquered death and fear. As the song says, “No better kind/No greater truth/The love that I/I have for you.”
This song is about giving all your worries, anxieties, and stress to God and allowing Him to lead you. He desires to walk beside you, and He wants us to be brave and unafraid. The song is energetic and reassures us of God's love and His presence.
“The Love I Have For You” relates to many Bible passages. That's what Colton Dixon’s music ministry stands for—loving God with all his heart, expressed through one catchy song after another. This song urges us to see ourselves through God's eyes. A Bible verse that reflects the melody God sings over us is Zephaniah 3:17. It moves me to embrace the truth that our God sings over us. This song beautifully conveys the comfort and peace that God's music offers.
Spend time with God and allow Him to redeem and restore you. We are not at the end of our story. God is still writing our stories of redemption. He wants us to know that He's faithful to finish what He has started in all of us who have put our hope and trust in Jesus for salvation. No matter what struggle or depression you're facing, remember that God is always with you. Celebrate with joy and lift your voice in worship of God's love in your life. His grace removes anxiety, guilt, and shame.
Remember, being His is enough. Knowing He is with us empowers us to face daily battles with courage and strength. This truth, based on His promise in Romans 8:28—"God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose"—gives us hope. We are all united in our struggles, in spiritual warfare, and in our longing for truth and relationship.
Ask yourself, “What am I wasting my time on?” and “What am I doing with my life?” Reflect on what you are doing for His kingdom. As a believer, you can live out these words: “With the love I have for you/Ain’t a mountain you can’t move/In the dark I’ll be the light/In the fight I’m by your side/When you’re weak I’ll be strong/Your hallelujah song/Oh you’re gonna make it through/With the love I have for you.” Amen to that.
