There are many options for Christmas music. This year, more than ever, I felt a bit overwhelmed when I started listening to different versions of classic Christmas songs, such as “Joy To The World,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “Silent Night.” Although I love those songs, I looked for some new ones to include in this article. As a result, I selected five fresh, exciting, and original Christmas songs that all contributed to creating a delightful new collection for me to enjoy. Each song is a highlight, including new collaborations with some of my favorite artists and the discovery of a new one as well.
Because of what Jesus did for you, choose this Christmas to make some sacrifices. Consider volunteering at a homeless shelter or participating in Operation Christmas Child. There’s much more fulfillment in those acts than the commercial versions we see everywhere. Don't give up on worthy causes, and sharing the Good News of Jesus is the most essential cause of all. Merry Christmas.
The dual nature of Advent is reflected in this song, where we remember Christ's first coming while praying for His return. The song highlights Advent prophecies from the Old Testament and speaks of Christ's birth and kingdom, acting as a prayer for Christ's reign in our hearts. That’s the ultimate gift of Christmas—the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus.
The song celebrates what the Apostle Paul shares in Philippians 2:9-11: “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Hope Darst – “Be Born in Me”
Well-known Christian music artist Francesca Battistelli initially recorded this song for her album, The Story. And up-and-coming artist Hope Darst originally recorded the demo vocals for Francesca. Now Hope has released her own version of the song. The bridge of this incredible piece is moving: “I am not brave/I'll never be/The only thing my heart can offer is a vacancy/I'm just a girl/Nothing more/But I am willing/I am Yours.”
God gave us the greatest gift—His only begotten Son, Jesus. As Mary beautifully prayed in Luke 1:48: “For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.” We are all blessed by Jesus coming to earth, humbling Himself to be born as a baby, and dying for our sins. We can all pray along with this beautiful song to Him and ask Him to “make my heart Your Bethlehem, be born in me.” That’s what Christmas is all about.
Katy Nichole & Matt Maher – “Our King Has Come”
This song is our worshipful response to our endless search for true comfort and joy. If we truly reflect on this and decide to make some sacrifices this Christmas, we remember that Jesus gave Himself. His gift was free and undeserved. That’s the true meaning of Christmas. When you allow that to sink from your head into your heart, it transforms us and shapes how we respond. It impacts every aspect of our lives.
My prayer for my life and family is that we all genuinely understand that Jesus came for each of us. Our response is to worship Him and share Him with others who don’t know Him.
Natalie Grant – “God’s Gift To Us”
“God’s Gift To Us” beautifully captures the truth expressed in John 3:28-30 (NKJV). It reminds us that we are the bride of Christ, bowing in worship to the King of kings and Lord of lords, and it highlights the humility of our position. We are all called to have the faith expressed by John the Baptist: "He must increase, but I must decrease."
This song is a wonderful way to thank Jesus for our undeserved gift of grace. Grace is given freely and cannot be earned through our good works. It is a gift from God through faith in Christ Jesus. The gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ started at Christmas and continues until we see Him face-to-face.
HOMECOMING – “Emmanuel”
This song tells the Christmas story from the perspective of those who saw it—light breaking into darkness, angels sharing hope, and a mother holding the Savior. Worship group HOMECOMING wrote it to remind listeners that God with us is not just a past event but a present reality. It’s a song for the church to sing of wonder and worship this Christmas. Amen to that.
