New Curb recording artist Carly Ann Taylor makes a striking introduction with her label debut, “Why Should I Worry (Remind Me Version).” Based in Southern California, the rising singer showcases her soulful vocal range on this refreshed take of an original song she first released in late 2024.
Carly Ann carries the poise and passion of a seasoned artist. Her songwriting is honest, uplifting, and deeply personal—offering joyful reminders of the freedom we find in Christ. With biblically inspired lyrics that reflect her true happiness and identity, Carly Ann stands as a strong role model for young women of faith. I recently had the opportunity to talk with her about her new single, “Why Should I Worry (Remind Me Version).”
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
Rooted in Matthew 6, this song is about reminding myself, as much as anyone else, that worry won’t add a single day to our lives. This song is about drowning out anxiety by surrendering to a Savior who offers peace and rest.
A Bible passage in Matthew 6 inspired me, which talks about God's care for sparrows and lilies. I also drew inspiration from my sister, imagining what I would say to her as a child, free from fear. The song acts as both a personal declaration of faith and a comforting message for others struggling with anxiety, reminding them that God is faithful and in control of their future.
After earning my degree in commercial music production from Point Loma Nazarene University, I was uncertain about my next move and struggled with anxiety and worry about my future. Right after graduation, I fell into a panic and depression because I was so unclear about what God had planned for my life. I wrote “Why Should I Worry” out of fear for what was ahead. I was determined to know what my next step was. I felt like I needed full control over my future, but I didn’t have it, and it drove me crazy.
This song is my way of processing my prayer time with God to release my worries. I was blessed with the gift of recording this song with a producer, and God has used it greatly, abundantly, and in ways I never imagined. God deserves all the glory for this song.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Matthew 6:8 (NKJV): “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him.”
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God can orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."
Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIV): "But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved."
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT): "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."
Romans 12:2 (The Voice): "Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete."
Romans 8:17 (NIV): “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings so that we may also share in His glory.”
Philippians 1:6 (NKJV): “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV): But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
What is the takeaway message of your song?
I wrote the song from the perspective of advising my younger self or my sister, encouraging them with what I would want to say to someone facing similar struggles. I experienced severe dysfunction and abuse until I was able to move in with my brother and his wife, which was life-changing and transformed my life. I call them my mom and dad. It truly is a miracle that I am here today.
God is faithful to remind us, again and again, of who He is, and I pray His peace meets you exactly where you are. If you’re someone who struggles with anxiety and fear of your future, this song is for you. If you struggle with anxiety, God is with you, and He will not let you drift away.
Lyrics
Why should I worry? Why should I fear? Just look at the lilies And wipe all those tears Tomorrow's frustrations Will come on their own So focus right now And focus on home 'Cause my God He holds my future
And my God, He knows my name
You make my striving cease You lift my burdens off of me You calm the raging sea My anxieties 'Cause that's just who You are You make me whole again Your love is constant There's no end You calm the raging sea Inside of me 'Cause that's just who You are
What more could I want? What more could I need? Just look at the birds in the air They don't stress, not a care They just know that You're there And that's just who You are You make my striving cease You lift my burdens off of me You calm the raging sea My anxieties 'Cause that's just who You are You make me whole again Your love is constant There's no end You calm the raging sea Inside of me 'Cause that's just who You are
When I needed faith, You made me stronger When I needed rest, You gave me still waters You know every need, My Heavenly Father
When I lost myself, You knew where to find me I'm never alone 'cause You're right beside me And if I forget, You'll always remind me
When I needed faith, You made me stronger When I needed rest, You gave me still waters You know every need, My Heavenly Father
When I lost myself, You knew where to find me I'm never alone 'cause You're right beside me And if I forget, You'll always remind me Yeah You make my striving cease You lift my burdens off of me You calm the raging sea Inside of me 'Cause that's just who You are You make me whole again Your love is constant There's no end You calm the raging sea Inside of me 'Cause that's just who You are That's just who You are That's just who You are That's just who You are 'Cause that's just who You are That's just who You are That's just who You are That's just who You are
Closing Thoughts
“Why Should I Worry” is best described as a powerful, uplifting anthem to sing over ourselves and against fear, worry, and anxiety. Know that Jesus loves you and has something better planned for you if you trust Him as your Savior. This song includes a testimony of surrender to the Lord that we can use as a prayer for freedom from our personal struggles. Our weaknesses are nothing to hide.
In fact, our weaknesses reveal God's grace and strength. I'm deeply convicted by the powerful lyrics and find great comfort in this song. We can't know everything, and we're not in control. But trusting God reassures us that there's no need to fear.
The song's message encourages us to reflect on our doubts. It prompts us to consider how Jesus calls us to trust in Him and in the power of His resurrection, reminding us that He has conquered death and fear.
If you've placed all your hope and trust in Jesus, nothing can separate you from His love. When we think about the kind of faith we're called to have as believers, it is described as the faith of a mustard seed. This song is filled with truth that believers can cling to.
There is great comfort in knowing Jesus and being known by Him in every detail of our lives. As followers of Jesus, we trust God's Word. We are all a work in progress. Have faith and let God "work all things together for good." Spend time with God and allow Him to redeem and restore you. We are not at the end of our story. God's still writing our stories of redemption. We all face fear, worry, and anxiety—God understands these emotions within us.
I've read that God tells us 365 times in His Word to "do not fear" or "do not worry." This serves as a daily reminder not to get caught up in ourselves, but instead to be satisfied with a fresh filling of God and His Holy Spirit. I have been mindful of that idea in my daily Bible study.
“Why Should I Worry” is a biblical truth that all listeners can relate to—the reality that Christians are renewed on the inside. The truth is that the Holy Spirit grants us new life. We no longer have to carry guilt, fears, perfectionism, or worries. This song is a personal testimony to the power of stepping out of darkness and into God's marvelous light.
Sing along and pray these words: “You calm the raging sea/My anxieties/'Cause that's just who You are/You make me whole again / Your love is constant/There's no end/You calm the raging sea / Inside of me/'Cause that's just who You are.”
Amen to that.
