Marriage and ministry can be a beautiful blend, but also a journey filled with challenges and growth. In this episode of Couple’s Corner from NewReleaseToday, hosts Janice Rigel and her husband Danny sit down with singer-songwriter Joe Guerra and his wife Beth to talk about love, music, and God’s redemptive timing.
From meeting years ago at a worship night, to reconnecting through songwriting, Joe and Beth share how God wove their paths back together in His perfect timing. Now, as husband and wife, they travel, lead worship, and create music that reflects both their personal journeys and their shared ministry calling. In this heartfelt conversation, the Guerras open up about redemption, faith, and the joy of doing life and music side by side.
We’re so excited to have Joe and Beth Guerra with us on Couple’s Corner! Welcome, guys.
Joe: Thanks for having us.
Beth: Yes, thank you—we’re excited to be here.
Let’s start with your love story. How did you two meet?
Joe: We’ve been married about two and a half years now, but we actually met much earlier at a worship night. At the time, I was in a pretty broken place—coming out of a short, difficult marriage and really needing God to do a lot of work in me. I remember thinking Beth was amazing, but also feeling God tell me, “Not yet.” Fast forward five or six years later, I was putting together a music video and reached out to friends from that same worship circle. Beth responded, and when we reconnected, it felt like God’s timing. A little over a year later, we were married.
Beth: That’s true. When I first messaged him, I was actually at the end of a dating fast God had called me into. I had committed to focus only on the Lord for a season, and the day I reached out to Joe was literally the last day of that fast. From that moment on, everything felt effortless—doors just kept opening. God’s timing was so clear, and it was beautiful.
That’s amazing. I love stories of redemption like that. Let’s do some rapid-fire questions to get to know you better. Ready?
Both: Ready!
Who’s the better cook?
Joe: That’s Beth. But I can wrap anything in bacon!
Beth: He does make amazing bacon-wrapped dates.
Who’s the better driver?
Joe: Beth. (laughs) I’m a little intense on the road.
Who’s funnier?
Joe: Definitely Beth.
Who snores louder?
Joe: Me.
Beth: But he says I do too sometimes.
Who’s more romantic?
Joe: Honestly, both of us—it’s a tie.
Who’s more of a clean freak?
Joe: Me. I love cleaning, though Beth is great when she gets to it.
Who said “I love you” first?
Beth: That was me. I was having a panic attack one night, and Joe held me and sang “Stand By Me.” In that moment, I just felt safe and loved, and the words slipped out.
Wow, that’s beautiful. Okay, let’s dive a little deeper. How did each of you first get involved in Christian music?
Joe: For me, it started back in high school after a youth conference. I felt God calling me to something, so I picked up the guitar and started writing songs—cheesy at first, but it grew into ministry. Over time, I began leading worship at youth groups and camps, and eventually moved into recording and touring. After Beth and I got married, she began singing with me, first in worship settings and now even in concert sets. We’ve also started writing together, which is exciting.
Beth: It’s been amazing to step into this with Joe. God has opened doors for me to join him in worship leading and now songwriting. It feels like He’s shaping us for ministry together.
How do your faith journeys influence your music and songwriting?
Joe: Most of my songs come out of personal experiences and lessons God has taught me through His Word. For example, last year our house was broken into and trashed while we were out of town. Out of that painful season, we started writing a song called This House Ain’t Gonna Fall. God uses even hard experiences to birth new songs of hope.
Beth: That was a defining moment for me. We had to go lead worship at a revival the next morning, even though our house was destroyed. Worshipping through that pain was monumental—it reminded me to keep my eyes on Jesus above the waves. That experience deeply shaped my faith and our ministry together.
That is so powerful. What unique challenges do you face as a couple in the Christian music industry?
Joe: Balancing ministry and marriage can be tough. People see the highlight reel—traveling, performing, leading worship—but behind the scenes, there are business details and logistics that can get overwhelming. We’ve had to learn to separate our ministry work from our marriage, ensuring we still have fun together and maintain a strong relationship.
Beth: Yes, remembering why we do this—and making sure it brings us closer together—is so important. If the ministry ever gets in the way of our marriage, then we’ve lost sight of God’s purpose.
So much wisdom. Thank you, Joe and Beth, for sharing your story and your hearts. Where can people connect with you?
Joe: You can find us at joeguerramusic.com. Our music, events, and merch are all there.
Perfect. Thank you both for joining us on Couple’s Corner!
Beth: Thanks for having us!
Joe: It’s been great—thank you!
