A Nashville native Mary-Clair began songwriting in her early teens with the help of acclaimed producer Tedd T, who quickly recognized her raw talent. Inspired by both faith-based and secular influences--ranging from CeCe Winans and DC Talk to Queen and Aerosmith--Mary-Clair has developed a unique sound. Moved to perform at an early age, Mary-Clair has always been aware of the remarkable power that music can have on people's lives.
Mary-Clair is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee, whose music blends heartfelt storytelling with a dynamic mix of faith, love, and self-discovery. Writing songs since she was 10, she has a passion for creating music that resonates deeply with listeners. With a sound that ranges from uplifting and energetic to deeply powerful and reflective, her songs explore themes of perseverance, trust, and finding peace in love and faith. With an authentic voice and a gift for capturing life's highs and lows, Mary-Clair continues to connect with audiences through songs that remind us we are seen, valued, and--above all--enough.
One of the "it factors" I listen for in selecting my favorite songs and albums is whether I'm emotionally moved. For newcomer Mary-Clair, her songs "Heaven in the Way," "There's A God," and "Falling" all fit that category for me. If you like catchy songs that are scripturally based with relatable lyrics and edifying messages, then you are in for a treat with Enough. I had the great opportunity to interview Mary-Clair about "Your Love."
Please share the personal message behind the song.
"Your Love" is deeply rooted in my personal faith and my desire to create music that is both spiritually authentic and accessible to a wide audience. The song is a personal ballad addressed to God, expressing gratitude and connection, and it was written to serve as an invitation for listeners to explore their own relationship with God or to find hope in their faith, regardless of their current spiritual state. The song is very intentional. It's not just Christian, it's not just pop. You're able to sing this song towards God but you're also going to be able to sing it towards someone else that you love or care about.
Please tell me about any Bible verses that connect to the song.
1 Peter 3:3-4 (NIV): "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV): "And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
Psalm 139:14 (NIV): "I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Psalm 139:17-18 (NKJV): "How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You."
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT): "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."
Romans 8:31 (NIV): "What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"
John 1:12 (NIV): "Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."
1 Peter 2:9 (NIV): "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
What's the takeaway message?
We aimed to create a song that was not preachy but inviting, offering a space for listeners to feel seen and heard, especially in their struggles. The lyrics, such as "My fear ends where you begin," capture the essence of finding solace and security in God's presence. This song reflects my desire to share my personal experience with God's love and to offer a hopeful, authentic musical experience that resonates with both faithful individuals and those who are searching for something more. These songs are written for people who are searching--for God, for love, for meaning. I wanted to create something that felt real and raw but also hopeful.
Lyrics
Your love is like nothing else
A feelin' I can't describe
It's like I could walk on water if I try
Better than I ever felt
A freedom that you can't buy
What I've found now, people search for all their life
I know You'll catch me when I feel like I'm free-falling
My fear ends where You begin
Great is Your love, yeah, it's one of a kind
I can always be sure that I'm Yours and You are mine
Great is Your love, I'll say it all the time
I will never need more 'causе I'm Yours and You are mine
You're thе only thing in this life that won't get old
Forever, Father, forever, I'm Yours forevermore, oh
I know You'll catch me when I feel like I'm free-falling
My fear ends where You begin
Oh, great is Your love, yeah, it's one of a kind
I can always be sure that I'm Yours and You are mine
Great is Your love, I'll say it all the time
I will never need more 'cause I'm Yours and You are mine
I, I, I believe Your love has set me free
Can't believe everything You've done for me
Great is Your love, great is Your love for me
I, I, I believe, I just wanna testify
Can't believe that Your love has saved my life
Great is Your love, great is Your love for me
Oh, great is Your love, yeah, it's one of a kind
And now I'll always be sure that I'm Yours and You are mine
Great is Your love, I'll say it all the time
I will never need more 'cause I'm Yours and You are mine (Oh)
I, I, I believe Your love has set me free
Can't believe everything You've done for me
Great is Your love, great is Your love for me
I, I, I believe, I just wanna testify
Can't believe that Your love has saved my life
Great is Your love, great is Your love for me
(Ooh, ooh)
Great is Your love, great is Your love for me
Closing Thoughts
"Your Love" is best described as an empowering anthem to lift up against fear, worry, and anxiety as captured in the lyrics, "I know You'll catch me when I feel like I'm free-falling/My fear ends where You begin." The song is an excellent companion to sing over your life. The moving musical bed of the song takes me on an emotional journey that causes me to excitedly sing along with the stirring lyrics every time I hear the song. You'll understand how God feels about you from the beautiful refrain: "Great is Your love, yeah, it's one of a kind/I can always be sure that I'm Yours and You are mine."
That's the story of redemption and salvation. God meets us where we are and saves us from ourselves. We're broken and in need of a Savior. Jesus is our healer and the ultimate provider for our needs. I especially like songs with vertical lyrics that proclaim Jesus as our Savior. Although we all know Proverbs 3:5-6, Solomon wrote that to remind us today about the importance of trusting in God with 'all of our hearts.'
No matter where you are, no matter what you've done, God will find you if you call out to Him sincerely and ask Him for His grace. Even once we are saved, we sometimes beat ourselves up about failure and feel unworthy of God's love. That's the point: we aren't worthy. We can't earn grace. It is a gift of unmerited favor from God for His children.
This song celebrates the freedom we're promised in God's Holy Word. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
Christians are new creations on the inside. The Holy Spirit has given you new life. You no longer must live with guilt, fears, or worries. You're born again. God desperately wants to fill you with His light and His mercy to make you new. The Lord's glory, His strength, is found in your weakness. This song celebrates that truth.
This song reminds us of the kind of heart we should have as people valued by God and as Christians who can communicate our value to others. For me, songs such as "Your Love" provide opportunities for God to whisper to me my identity. It's not found in what I do or don't but in who I am and, more importantly, to whom I belong.
In our modern society, many people put their trust in technology, money, career, and themselves. Jesus reminds us that "where your heart is, that's where your treasure is as well." This song is a great reminder to not look for our worth from the world, but to instead look to Jesus as our love, hope, and remedy. As this great song proclaims-- "Can't believe everything You've done for me/Great is Your love, great is Your love for me/I, I, I believe, I just wanna testify/Can't believe that Your love has saved my life." Amen to that.
