In this edition of NRT's Couples Corner, hosts Danny and Janice sit down with Rob and Cassidy Estevez of Life.Church Worship. As part of Life.Church's mission to lead people into an entirely devoted relationship with Jesus has been supported by the group's creation of powerful, Christ-centered music since 2016, including songs they’ve co–written, such as “Faithful.” Rob and Cassidy share their love story, the joys and challenges of working together in ministry, and the faith that inspires their music.
Can you share your love story?
Cassidy: We met in college while studying music at Liberty University. Rob was a few years ahead of me—I was an incoming freshman, and he was what we jokingly call a “super senior” in his fifth year. We only crossed paths briefly before Rob moved to Oklahoma to take a job as a worship pastor at Life.Church.
We were acquaintances then, but a mutual friend later played matchmaker—though we’re still unsure why. He told each of us that the other was interested, which wasn’t exactly true at the time. Still, it got us talking. I eventually messaged Rob on Instagram, and the rest is history.
We dated until I graduated, got married in 2017, and have been living in Oklahoma since. We now have a two‑year‑old daughter named Zara.
Let’s do some rapid-fire “Who’s more likely” questions. Who’s the better cook, and what do you like to make?
Cassidy: I love making soups—chili, gumbo, and that sort of thing.
Rob: I enjoy cooking all kinds of meals.
Who’s the better driver?
Rob: Me.
Who’s funnier?
Cassidy: It depends. I’m more reactionary—I’ll make a joke quietly, and Rob will repeat it loudly and get the laughs. So, it’s a team effort.
Who snores louder?
Cassidy: I don’t snore.
Rob: You did last night.
Cassidy: Did I? Well, you did the night before. (Both laugh)
Who’s more romantic?
Cassidy: We both are, in different ways. And yes—men like flowers, too.
Who’s most competitive?
Cassidy: Both of us, honestly.
Who said “I love you” first?
Rob: That was me—on our first date. It just slipped out because things were going so well. It was almost like breathing—it just happened.
What inspired you to collaborate as a couple in the Christian music industry, and how has working together impacted your relationship?
Rob: From the beginning, it was clear this was a calling for both of us. I’ve always trusted that God would weave our stories together. We were called to work in ministry together, and I’ve learned to trust the process—even when unexpected dynamics arise. It’s been great.
Cassidy: Life.Church brought us in when our worship ministry was just getting started, and we’ve had the privilege of helping shape Life.Church Worship and an initiative called Switch—being able to collaborate that closely has been so meaningful.
What role does collaboration play in your creative process, and how do you handle differences in artistic vision or direction?
Cassidy: Collaboration in our relationship is everything—it’s how we balance life and manage our relationship in a God-honoring way. That naturally carries over into our creative work. As a couple, we can read each other well and work toward outcomes we’re both proud of.
Rob: We lean on each other’s strengths depending on the situation. Even if there’s disagreement, I trust it’s not personal. We’ve never had a disagreement that stopped us from finishing a song—we always find a collaborative conclusion.
What advice would you give to other couples considering working together in the Christian music industry?
Cassidy: Lean on and trust each other. Be open, find couples doing similar things for accountability, and lean on your community. We have a supportive network of pastor couples and creative couples.
Rob: Have conversations to ensure you’re running in the same direction. God calls couples together with a plan that works for both—figure out what that is together.
How did you both first get involved in Christian music, and what was your journey like before coming together?
Rob: After college, I pursued songwriting and thought Nashville was the place to go. While applying for church roles instead, I landed a position at Life.Church. I thought I’d have to give up the songwriting dream—but turns out, this became a new creative outlet.
Cassidy: I grew up playing classical piano and leading worship. In high school, I released a single and loved ministry music. At Liberty University, I focused on worship with a songwriting track. When I married Rob, I thought I might forsake personal artistry—but Life.Church gave me space to use my songwriting gifts. Seven years later, we’re doing local church ministry and creating music in one unified call—and that’s been a blessing.
What unique challenges do you face as a couple in the Christian music industry, and how do you overcome them?
Rob: Sometimes I’m eager to say “yes” to everything and run ahead. But I must remember—this was God’s idea before it was mine. His passion for His people’s worship is purer than mine.
Cassidy: Because we’re part of a large church collective, our dreams must align with the church’s broader vision. Staying grounded, present, and faithful to what He’s placed before us now is vital.
With such busy schedules, how do you make time for each other, and what advice would you give to other couples?
Rob: We have a toddler, so it’s a busy season. Our senior pastor has reminded us that it’s the little things, done consistently, that keep you connected—not just big gestures. Sharing dinner or just spending evening time together matters.
Cassidy: We build “anchor points” like our Friday date day when Zara’s in daycare. We’ve also learned to communicate our needs clearly and kindly without criticism. Ultimately, grace, trust, and consistency are key.
Final Thoughts
What stands out about Rob and Cassidy’s story is how seamlessly their journey of faith, marriage, and music intertwine. From a chance college meeting to shaping one of the fastest-growing worship collectives, they’ve learned to lean on each other—and on God—in every season. Their ministry is not just about music; it’s about serving together, trusting God’s timing, and letting everyday rhythms sustain love, family, and song.
