Contemporary Christian artist Ben Fuller is an emerging voice in Christian music, known for his gritty Southern rock style and deeply personal lyrics. His 2025 album, Walk Through Fire, aims to expand on themes of perseverance, faith under pressure, and spiritual growth—marking a new chapter in his ministry through music.
Fuller first gained attention with his 2022 self-titled debut album, released under Provident Label Group, which featured powerful tracks such as "Who I Am," "Wide Awake," and "But the Cross." These songs resonated with listeners for their raw honesty and redemptive storytelling, rooted in Fuller’s journey from addiction and brokenness to a restored life through Christ.
Before releasing his debut album, Fuller had already released early singles, such as "If I Got Jesus" and "He Got a Hold on Me," which helped establish his voice as one characterized by vulnerability and hope. Songs like "Testimony" and more recent releases, including "Turn" and “Don’t Let Me Forget,” continue to reflect his calling to share the life-changing power of Jesus through music.
Fans of Southern rock-inspired Christian artists and bands, such as Third Day, NEEDTOBREATHE, Zach Williams, and Rhett Walker, will recognize a familiar yet fresh sound in Fuller’s work—centered on powerful vocals, gospel influences, and lyrics that address life’s struggles and triumphs. I recently sat down with Ben to discuss one of his newest songs, “Deeper Still.”
Could you please share the personal story behind this song?
“Deeper Still” shares my story—from struggles with addiction and a life-altering event to discovering faith and redemption through my relationship with God. The song reflects on how God’s love goes beyond what’s visible, reaching into the depths of human brokenness to offer salvation. I imagined digging holes in the ground—that’s how deep God’s love for us is. There’s nowhere we can go that is beyond His reach.
It’s the mystery of God that surpasses everything I’ve done or tried, and there’s no other way. The more I focus on Jesus, the more I pay attention to what God says, what the Bible says, and what His Word says—the more incredible the freedom I feel. I experience less worry because it’s like, you know what? I’m a child of God.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Romans 1:16 (NKJV): "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek."
1 Peter 2:24(NIV): "He bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; By His wounds you have been healed."
John 15:13(NKJV): "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends."
Philippians 2:10-11(NIV): "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
John 6:53-54(NKJV): Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 14:6(NIV): Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Ephesians 2:1(NKJV): "And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins."
Ephesians 2:6(NIV): "And God raised us with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus."
1 Peter 2:24 (NIV): "He bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; By His wounds, you have been healed."
John 15:13 (NKJV): "Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one's life for his friends."
Philippians 2:10-11 (NIV): "That at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Romans 8:37 (NLT): "No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us."
What is the takeaway message?
I’ve experienced the dark side and done unspeakable things—but becoming a Christian and following Jesus Christ is one of the hardest commitments I’ve ever made. I challenge you to take up your cross and do the same. It’s not easy, but man, is it worth it. My battles with addiction—including a drug-fueled relationship and the loss of a friend to overdose—have profoundly shaped this song. It stands as a reminder always to tell the truth, stop running, and refuse to be afraid. To bring my mess, show the ugly, and speak about the hard things.
The song itself powerfully testifies to the transformative power of God’s grace, emphasizing that His love doesn’t stay on the surface—it reaches into the deepest parts of our human experience.
Lyrics
My good gracious Won’t somebody send some help I been digging my whole life, hoping I might find the well But I heard there’s a holy water that never runs out In the dirt, there’s a word that’s sweeter than honey to my mouth And to think I was gonna find God with a shovel in the ground
Then I found Jesus At the end of myself Cause all I needed Was for my strength to run out At my weakness, He was waiting To pick me where I fell His love goes deeper Oh Goes deeper still
Oh, sweet mercy Where would I be without grace I’d be six feet down with dirt on my face But I heard my Father’s voice Calling me by name I felt my Savior pull me up out that grave
And I found Jesus At the end of myself Cause all I needed Was for my strength to run out At my weakness, He was waiting To pick me where I fell His love goes deeper Oh Goes deeper still
It goes deeper Oh Goes deeper still
I spent my whole life searching For a well that won’t run dry Turns out all that I was missing Wasn’t all that hard to find
His love is always working It’s never wasting time Who knew that my rock bottom Is where I found my life
And I found Jesus At the end of myself Cause all I needed Was for my strength to run out At my weakness, He was waiting To pick me where I fell His love goes deeper Oh Goes deeper still
It goes deeper Oh Goes deeper still
Closing Thoughts
At the core of the Christian faith is the truth found in John 14:6—Jesus is the only way. In a world that often insists all paths lead to heaven, “Deeper Still” boldly declares otherwise. This is more than just an uplifting song; it’s a declaration of truth, celebrating Christ’s death on the cross and His victory over sin. It encourages believers to stand firm, speak boldly, and live fully in the light of that truth.
“Deeper Still” is a powerful anthem of salvation, rooted in the message of Jesus, the Savior who defeated death. It invites listeners to surrender fully to His goodness, trusting His blood to cover and transform them. As Scripture says, we overcome “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.” This song embodies that very promise, encouraging believers to rely on the power of the Lord rather than their own strength.
The song also reminds us who we are: sons and daughters of God, deeply loved and accepted. It encourages us to carry that love with us, sing praises, and draw closer to Him at all times. “Deeper Still” reflects the personal redemption stories we each hold—stories of salvation, rescue, and grace—and honors the day we were saved.
Ultimately, the message behind this song reflects the good news of the Gospel. It reminds us that God’s love is more profound than our failures, struggles, and past. Whether you’re just discovering faith or have been walking with Jesus for years, “Deeper Still” encourages you to reflect, recommit, and rejoice in the unshakable truth of who He is—and who you are in Him.
This song has become my anthem, and I sing along at the top of my lungs the sincere and emotive lyrics of submission in the refrain: “And I found Jesus/At the end of myself/Cause all I needed/Was for my strength to run out/At my weakness He was waiting/To pick me where I fell/His love goes deeper/Oh/Goes deeper still.” Amen to that.
