Switch is the student worship band of Life.Church, a multi-campus church in Edmond, Oklahoma, is known for using technology and creativity to engage the next generation. Created to lead worship for Life.Church’s youth ministry, Switch has developed a unique blend of worship music and modern pop, aimed at helping students connect with God through authentic, relatable music.
In recent years, the band has continued to build momentum with the release of the Better View EP and Better View, Part II, which includes the standout track “Letting Go.” The Better View (Deluxe) collection reinforces the band’s recurring theme of finding our identity in Christ and learning to “walk by faith and not by sight.” Their latest single, “Still Small Voice,” is both catchy and heartfelt, inviting listeners to tune out the world's noise and lean into God's quiet presence.
I spoke with Cassidy Estevez, a member of the band and the Ministry Leader of Worship Arts at Life.Church, about their inspiring new release, “Still Small Voice.”
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
We all experience moments of uncertainty and a lack of direction. Now that I’m a parent, I have many opportunities to embrace His peace. I aim to write a song that helps others during uncertainty and confusion.
“Still Small Voice” reminds us that when the world is loud and our anxious thoughts swirl around, God quiets the noise and offers us peace. We hope this song provides a moment of calm for anyone who needs to hear God’s still, small voice. God is beside you and with you in every moment. He will guide you into His peace that surpasses understanding.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Romans 8:28 (VOICE): “We are confident that God can orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.”
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NKJV): "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am known."
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Psalm 91:1-2 (NKJV): "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and fortress; My God, in Him I will trust."
Psalm 139:5 (VOICE): "You have surrounded me on every side, behind me and before me, and You have placed Your hand gently on my shoulder."
Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV): "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."
Psalm 34:19 (NKJV): “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
Psalm 46:1 (NIV): "The Lord is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble."
Psalm 121:7-8 (NKJV): “The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and coming in, from this time forth, and even forevermore.”
What is the takeaway message?
“Still Small Voice” was written to remind us that God is near to each of us, regardless of what we're experiencing. Having faced seasons of uncertainty, depression, and anxiety, I have found God to be my safety and refuge, continually reminding me of the truth.
We wanted to create a song that helps people remember the source of our peace and hope. We hope this song assists people in processing difficult times and recognizing that God is present in those moments if we take the time to stop and listen to His ‘still small voice.’
His Holy Spirit is always with us, ready to guide us if we invite Him to quiet the lies in our minds. We know He is faithful and the one who directs our steps. We hope this encourages you to listen for and lean into His still, small voice that lovingly leads us back to truth and hope.
Lyrics
Pressure right now Tryna drown my thoughts out All these voices shouting to get through Break my will down Hard to find myself now Hard to find a way back to the truth Buried in the depths of my memory Long forgotten words you sang over me Come flooding back now Filling my head so loud You quiet the noise so I can breathe
I hear Your still, small voice Leading my mind to rest Your still small voice Quiets the lies in my head You reach through the dark Take hold of my heart You pull me closer in Your still small voice Reminds me again I am who You say I am
I am who You say I am
No more listening To all the lies that I’ve let in Anything that doesn’t sound like You Your voice brings peace Calms my anxieties Calling me back to what is true That even when my mind’s playing tricks on me You are always there, never out of reach Constant, right now Filling my head so loud You quiet the noise to set me free
I hear Your still, small voice Leading my mind to rest Your still small voice Quiets the lies in my head You reach through the dark Take hold of my heart You pull me closer in Your still small voice Reminds me again I am who You say I am
I am who You say I am I am who You say
Your still small voice Leading my mind to rest Your still small voice Quiets the lies in my head You reach through the dark Take hold of my heart You pull me closer in Your still small voice Reminds me again I am who You say I am I’m gonna trust You I’m gonna trust You
Closing Thoughts
“Still Small Voice” uses moments of sudden silence to illustrate the power of God’s presence in calming our minds. The "still small voice" in 1 Kings 19 refers to God's quiet, personal communication with Elijah after a dramatic confrontation with the prophets of Baal.
Elijah, overwhelmed and depressed, sought a grand demonstration of God's power, but God spoke to him in a gentle whisper, contrasting with the preceding wind, earthquake, and fire.
This event highlights the importance of listening for God's voice in everyday moments rather than expecting dramatic displays. The "still small voice" is not just a biblical phrase; it's a powerful metaphor for how God often communicates with us, encouraging us to be attentive to the quiet promptings of the Spirit in our lives.
Cassidy writes and sings her breath, given to her by God, into anointed new songs for the Church. This powerful song, a standout anthem with a convicting declaration, will bless you. We can all celebrate the truth conveyed in this song. I hope people will pray along and embody the message behind these words. Our thoughts are constantly under attack by the enemy, and this song serves as a potent reminder to submit to God and commit ourselves to Him.
Followers of Jesus can sing every word and agree with the beautiful sentiments of this great song. His love is endless, and He is our refuge and strength. As believers, we know that heaven is calling our names. He is real, He is near, and He is just a breath away. He is the author of our lives and understands what is best for us, far better than we do. That is why we sing this empowering anthem at the top of our lungs in gratitude to Him.
In Cassidy’s vocals, I hear a sincere yearning for the Lord and a thankfulness in her heart for God's mercy and grace.
Lay your doubts and struggles at the feet of Jesus, and He will take them from you and release you from those burdens. God wants to hear from you. As Christians, we are called to believe in our freedom through the cross of Jesus. We are free from our addictions, insecurities, and perfectionism. Jesus came to die for us to live in Him truly. While we cannot see everything in our fallen world through life's mirror, dimly obscuring grace and truth, we can only trust in His Son, Jesus. His ways are higher than our ways. That’s how we can have a better view.
Wait for God to orchestrate the plans for your life. You have nothing to bring to God. Perhaps you expect something in return, instead of recognizing that nothing compares to the greatness of knowing Jesus. Faith is when we are empty of ourselves and filled with Him and His Holy Spirit.
No matter what you are going through, if you are looking for the words to pray to God, sing along with Cassidy:“No more listening/To all the lies that I’ve let in/Anything that doesn’t sound like You/Your voice brings peace/Calms my anxieties/Calling me back to what is true/That even when my mind’s playing tricks on me/You are always there, never out of reach/Constant, right now/Filling my head so loud/You quiet the noise to set me free.” Amen to that.
