How often do you reach out to other followers of Jesus and ask them to pray for you?
In the Bible, you’ll see that in the letters the Apostle Paul wrote to his Christian friends and partners in ministry, he often tells them what he has been praying for them and asks them to pray for him too. In Ephesians 6:19-20 and Colossians 4:3-4, he asked for prayer that God would help him share the message of Jesus clearly and boldly.
Romans 15:30-32 (NLT): “Dear brothers and sisters, I urge you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to join in my struggle by praying to God for me. Do this because of your love for me, given to you by the Holy Spirit. Pray that I will be rescued from those in Judea who refuse to obey God. Pray also that the believers there will be willing to accept the donation I am taking to Jerusalem. Then, by the will of God, I will be able to come to you with a joyful heart, and we will be an encouragement to each other.”
I love these verses written by Apostle Paul because they illustrate the meaning and power of prayer. When we pray for others, we join in their struggles, showing love by caring about their experiences and what they’re going through, and we ask God to help them. So, next time you feel overwhelmed by strong emotions or have a need in your life, do what Anike does in this song: acknowledge that need before God and pray about it for yourself; but then take the extra step to invite others to pray for you as well. You’ll receive the encouragement that comes when believers support each other through prayer, and you’ll see God move in your situation.
