In this exclusive interview, award-winning singer-songwriter Joe Jarvis shares his musical journey, inspirations, and the impact of his work. From his early love for cooking to his passion for music, Joe discusses his debut album Love is a Verb and the heart behind his Love and Laughs tour, aimed at addressing mental health issues and spreading hope. He emphasizes the importance of love in action and the church's role in supporting those in need. Joe also shares his future projects and how listeners can stay connected with him.

Let’s kick things off with some fun—can you share three random facts about yourself?

Sure! Okay, something random... I love old noir movies from the 1940s—The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, all that. Everyone’s wearing fedoras—I just love the vibe. Second, I’m an ENFP and an Enneagram Type 7. That probably explains a lot. Lastly, a year after I graduated high school, I directed a high school choir. The oldest member was just two years younger than me!

That’s amazing! And yes, you totally need a fedora now. Okay, let’s talk music. Tell us a little about your musical journey.

Honestly, I never thought I’d be doing what I do now. For a long time, I actually wanted to be a chef—I love cooking. I still do! I made a huge New Year’s feast from scratch recently.

But over time, I got involved in fine arts competitions. My guitar teacher was writing his own Christian music, which inspired me to try songwriting myself. I found some success, and my heart started pulling more toward ministry.
In 2019, I started touring. Then 2020 hit and everything shut down, but it gave me time to grow. I took online songwriting masterclasses, and in 2022 I won the Michigan State Fair Superstar Competition. That gave me a platform—and from there, things just started taking off. Now I’m doing the Love and Laughs ministry tour. I don’t always know where I’m headed, but I trust God to show me the next step.

We love that. You’ve shared the stage with some big names—Cochren & Co., Micah Tyler, We Are Messengers, and more. Who would be a dream artist to collaborate with in 2025?

Oh man, I’ve already had the chance to share the stage with some amazing artists—something I never would’ve believed a few years ago. But if I had to choose, I’d love to play with Rend Collective. Also, I’ve been really into Josiah Queen lately—his vibe is great. And Mac Powell? That would be amazing.

We’ll run your merch if you make it happen! You've had many milestones—what's been a highlight of your ministry so far?

Honestly, it’s the one-on-one moments after shows. A while back at Ichthus Festival, a well-dressed man came up to me after I played my song “Again,” which is about forgiveness and the prodigal son. He told me, “I don’t think anyone could ever forgive me for what I’ve done… but when I heard your song, I felt like God was speaking directly to me.”

That stuck with me. And on this Love and Laughs tour, people come up and say they’ve been waiting for a sign or an answer, and something during the show gave them that. Those are the moments that matter most. More than playing big stages—impacting someone’s life makes it all worth it.

That’s powerful. Speaking of the tour, you released your debut album Love is a Verb last year. Tell us about that project.

Yeah! That album was years in the making. After winning the Michigan State Fair competition, I got an EP as part of the prize. We expanded it over time and finally released a full eight-song album in July.

The message is simple: love is more than a word. It’s an action. The album explores different aspects of how God loves us and how we can extend that same love to others—not just through words, but through everyday actions.

It’s such a beautiful and activating album. So what’s next for you?

I’ve already started working on the next album, which I hope to release in 2025—maybe sooner. I’ll be dropping some singles in the meantime, and I’m also planning a Christmas project for next November. And of course, we’ve got more Love and Laughs tour stops and summer festivals lined up!

Tell us more about Love and Laughs—what inspired it?

The idea came out of seeing the mental health crisis unfold, especially after 2020. We’ve seen huge spikes in anxiety, loneliness, and depression. I even have a family member who works the 988 crisis line—it’s heartbreaking how many people feel hopeless.

Love and Laughs is the church’s response. We partner with organizations like Celebrate Recovery and spotlight them in each community. It’s about showing that everyone struggles—and healing is possible through Jesus.

We bring in music, comedy, and testimonies—all at no cost to the hosting church. Our next show is actually benefiting a pregnancy center. Churches can book a stop at joejarvismusic.com/loveandlaughs. We’d love to come to your city!

That’s amazing. Lastly, how can people stay connected with you?

You can visit my website, joejarvismusic.com, and stream my album anywhere—Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, you name it. I’m also active on Instagram and Facebook at @joejarvismusic. My tour dates are posted there too.

Thanks so much for chatting with us, Joe. We’re excited to see what’s next and are praying God continues to bless your ministry!

Thanks so much, guys. I appreciate it. Take care!
