“So What” by DOE and Lecrae is about people, especially on social media, having opinions about you, even without knowing you properly or understanding what’s happening in your life. Many of us can relate to this. Whether you’ve experienced being misjudged and misunderstood, gossiped about, bullied, or something else, you probably know what it’s like to have someone hold an opinion about you, your life, or what God has called you to do that isn’t entirely accurate.
Two Bible verses come to mind when I think about this:
Galatians 1:10 (NLT): “Obviously, I'm not trying to win people's approval, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant.”
Galatians 6:4 (NLT): “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.”
In the Bible, the apostle Paul faced misjudgment and misrepresentation from people regarding him and his work for Jesus, often deliberately. Therefore, he developed principles that kept him grounded and allowed him to encourage others.
When you’re tempted to be distracted by the opinions of those whose views do not align with God’s Word and what He says about your life:
(1) Keep your eyes on Jesus. Focus on serving Him and living for His approval, regardless of whether that makes you understood by others or popular. (2) Concentrate on performing the work He has called you to do. Remain faithful and glorify Him in all that He has placed before you to steward in this season. Avoid comparing yourself to others.
And entrust your situation and your critics to the wise and loving hands of God. Let Him defend you, and let Him take care of others’ attitudes and opinions about you.

Ain’t nothin ‘tween us except empty space (Don’t do it, girl, it’s not worth it) Go get some business ’cause mine ain’t your place Y’all playin’ on my phone Swear you know what’s in my home Never been in my time zone Y’all ain’t keepin’ my lights on, uh Yeah, uh, I know God don’t like petty (Nope) But some of these folks ain’t ready (Yeah) So help me when it’s heavy So what?
[Chorus: DOE] So what? I ain’t tryna be cool, I’m tryna be love So what? I ain’t tryna be fake, I’m coming in plush So what? I don’t care about you, I care about trust So what?
[Post-Chorus: DOE] You really got me now, you really got it I tried to stuff it down, I tried to hold it You really got me now, you really got it I tried to stuff it down, I tried to hold it
[Chorus: DOE] Uh, so what? I ain’t tryna be cool, I’m tryna be love So what? I ain’t tryna be fake, I’m coming in plush So what? I don’t care about you, I care about trust So what?
[Post-Chorus: DOE] You really got me now, you really got it So what? I tried to stuff it down, I tried to hold it So what? You really got me now, you really got it So what? I tried to stuff it down, I tried to hold it
