Words have power. The words we speak over ourselves and the words others speak over us can impact us for good or bad. Why? Because when we agree with the words we hear—for better or worse—they shape our beliefs. Whether we notice that or not, what we believe shapes how we live; that’s why the message of “What He Says About You” by contemporary Christian band Unspoken is so essential.

You and I must reflect on what God says about us, as this is how we can resist Satan’s lies that attempt to deceive us. This reflection also allows us to experience the freedom and abundant life God has in store.

When there are beliefs that hold a tight grip on our minds that oppose the truth of what Jesus says, we can tear them down through God’s power by making them obedient to Christ. Simply put, we replace wrong beliefs by agreeing with the truth of what Jesus says. And those pesky lies that try to rob us of walking in the identity, purpose, and hope God has for us start to lose their power.

Ask God to show you what lie you might be believing and to show you from His Word what the truth is, and start believing God’s truth. Knowing God’s truth sets you free, according to John 8:32.

As you listen to Unspoken's new song, remember that your discouraged thoughts do not define you. You aren’t what Satan or this world says you are. You are what Jesus says about you.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NLT): “We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.”

Lyrics

You had a light
Till somebody stole it
The words that they said cut you like a knife
They called you a name
You started to own it
You hear the echoes in the dead of night
Tired of the cheap shots comin’ at you nonstop
Leavin’ marks on your heart like a tattoo
Drowning on the inside, reaching for a lifeline
Let these be the words that you hold onto

You are loved
Chosen
Long before the day you were born
You are held
Forgiven
Treasured more than you’ll ever know

When the lies get loud
Let the truth ring out
Till the only thing you’re listening to
Is what He says about you (What He says about you)
What He says about you (What He says about you)
What He says about you (What He says about you)
What He says about you (What He says about you)
