Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. unplugged vol.1 by nobigdyl. As one of the most talented and hardest working artists in the industry, indie tribe.’s nobigdyl. drops his fourth project of 2024. The album, unplugged vol.1, was recorded at Analog Nashville on March 9 in front of a live, sold-out audience including a nine-piece band without use of any backing tracks. The live arrangements were coordinated by dyl.’s uncle, Derreck C. Phillips. He’s a Grammy award-winning drummer and band lead. The setlist was a combination of fan favorites and unreleased music off the future the people we became album which arrived on June 28. Independent powerhouse vocalist Sarah Juers was featured on many of the tracks as well as a trio of backup singers enhancing the already dynamic sound.
Personal favorites include “Sleepin,” “Shakira,” and “Outside.” However, the entire listening experience is unique, diverse and ear candy. Such a release had me reminiscing of the days mTV used to host “unplugged” television specials with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and Erykah Badu. Live instrumentation adds an organic sound, a sound that drives me to handfuls of live concerts each year. For this reason, many rappers are adding drummers and guitarists to their live experiences.

Fern and Futuristic - "TELL YOU TWICE" Social Club Misfits’ Fern drops his third single since releasing his SHIESTY EP back in July. This time, he tagged Support the Homies Management’s Futuristic, whose established quite a name for himself with over 600K followers on Spotify alone. “TELL YOU TWICE” exhibits the maximum lyricism skills from both artists displaying two sets of bars a piece: almost reminiscent of a freestyle. Fern utters outward some of his strongest bars such as, “back in the pen and then goin' all in / my only dependents are my next of kin / I do what I do, but it's all 'cause of Him / I was locked up in the den with the lions / but God said, "Don't worry, my son, you gon' win.” Stream “TELL YOU TWICE” on Spotify and Apple Music.
BigBreeze - "Pop It 4 Da Lord"
1VisionMusiczk’s BigBreeze returns with his fifth single of 2024. On Wednesday, he celebrated his 29th birthday and recently entered fatherhood. “Pop It 4 Da Lord” is a track of blessings, gratitude, thanksgiving being a week out before the Thanksgiving holiday. Complete with thunderous 808s and voice inflections, the track is a certified southern heater. Stream “Pop It 4 Da Lord” on Spotify and Apple Music.
