Contemporary Christian artist Hannah Kerr first made waves with her debut album, Overflow, featuring popular singles like "Your Love Defends Me" and "Warrior." The album earned a spot among my Top Albums of 2016. Since then, she's released standout tracks such as "Split the Sea," "Grave," and "Same God."

With a rich, pure vocal tone often compared to other female pop artists Kelly Clarkson and Natalie Grant, Hannah’s artistry reflects the confidence and passion of a seasoned performer. Her songwriting resonates with honesty, vulnerability, and a positive outlook, inspiring young listeners with messages of hope and faith.

Hannah's music consistently delivers upbeat, catchy tunes paired with grace-filled themes, reminding listeners that true happiness and identity are found in a relationship with God. Her latest album, As I Am, continues this message, exploring her struggles with insecurity and faith, all while showcasing her growth as an artist.

I’ve compiled my top five Hannah Kerr songs to celebrate her music ministry. These songs capture the essence of her powerful and uplifting work.

“As I Am”

“As I Am” is best described as a stirring and empowering anthem to sing over ourselves, pushing back against fear, worry, and anxiety. It sets the tone with the opening lyrics, “Sometimes I tell myself/That Your love is waiting on my heart to fix itself/As if I don't need Your help/Like there's a thousand miles/Between who I turned out to be and who You had in mind/I'll deserve Your love when I'm A little less anxious a little more kind.” Musically, the song's intensity matches the lyrics, leaving a lasting impact similar to “Your Love Defends Me.” If you are looking for a firm foundation in your life, make these lyrics your prayer: “You love me as I am God/I don't have to hide/You see every detail/And You don't change your mind/You love me/As I am, as I am.”

“Fear Not”

My favorite song on As I Am is “Fear Not.” The lyrics deeply move me, “You're telling me to fear not/You're holding me together when I'm lost/When I keep forgetting that You're here God/You're here God/I'll take Your hand and fear not.” I'm entirely convicted by the strong lyrics and find immense comfort in this song filled with biblical truth. The Holy Spirit gives us new life, and we no longer have to live with our guilt, fears, perfectionism, or worries. We are new creations and must live as children of God. This song provides a glimpse of the healing touch of God that He wants all of us to pray for as His children.

“Changed”

After repeated listens, the song's truth gets more profound with the comforting messages of the Bible that God is love, and we love because He first loved us. I can't get enough of this song's beautifully poetic and powerful expressions of faith. The comfort and rest Jesus offers are beautifully captured in “Changed.” Hannah beautifully depicts the message of identity that we all need to hear: “He changed my wound into healing/And my broken into praise/It's a miracle of mercy/That I'm standing here today/Changed.”

“If I Were You”

These songs on As I Am beautifully depict our dependence on God with poetic biblical descriptions of Him and our identity as His sons and daughters. Hannah's vocals are so strong and pure in this song. “If I Were You” has a soft, melodic vibe, making it a compelling and moving anthem. The song’s message, which sings, “Whatever I would do You do it better, better, better God if I were You/It would've taken me forever/To put the pieces of me back together,” is based on several biblical truths.

“Split the Sea”

God is more significant than any calamity that we experience in this world. Circumstances don't always go as we want or as we pray for God to work in our lives. By reading the Bible every day, we are reminded not to be afraid. He tells us in the Bible that we can do anything in Christ with faith. So, walk by faith and be guided in your daily walk by prayer and God's infallible Word, the Bible. I sing this song to God with all my heart and know for a fact, “[I believe every promise that] "You've spoken/I believe You are faithful every moment/And it may look impossible/But You're the God of miracles/You have always “made a way for me/You can still split the sea."
