Jaime Jamgochian's debut album, Reason to Live, spawned the modern classic, "Hear My Worship." Having come to Christ during her college years, Jaime admits she made her share of mistakes before becoming a believer. And those moments have made her better equipped to minister to young girls struggling through some of the same issues.
Jaime's new song, "Visions," from her album Sacred Surrender, is breathtaking, with the song's worshipful chorus and soaring bridge. You may want to incorporate it into your Sunday morning praise and worship sets. I had the great opportunity to interview Jaime about her new song.
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
This song "Visions" was birthed from a missions trip to Manila, beautifully crafted by my friends John Day, Anne Marie Waters, and Steve Carpenter. The chorus--a poignant call to surrender and commitment--became my anthem and a song I would lead at so many services and conferences: "Take my life, I'm giving it all to you, whatever you want me to do... I'm gonna follow You." It resonated with countless hearts, calling a generation back to God amidst life's distractions.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."
Psalm 30:11-12 (VOICE): "You did it: You turned my deepest pains into joyful dancing; You stripped off my dark clothing and covered me with joyful light. You have restored my honor. My heart is ready to explode, erupt in new songs! It's impossible to keep quiet! Eternal One, my God, my Life-Giver, I will thank You forever."
1 John 3:1 (NLT): "See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don't recognize that we are God's children because they don't know Him."
Acts 4:12 (NKJV): "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV): "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
What is the takeaway message?
Now twenty-plus years later, when I was making this new album, I [felt like I needed to] revise this song a bit and record it. You can now listen to it and worship with me, and I hope this song becomes an anthem for you, too. My passion is to see people know their worth and embrace each season. This song speaks of our response to how God is calling a new generation to return to Him in surrender and worship.
Lyrics
I see a vision of a generation coming back to You
I see a vision of a generation getting lost in You
Hands raised high with one voice they cry to a holy God
I once was blind but now I see Your love sets us free
So take my life I'm giving it all to You
Whatever You want me to do I'm gonna follow You
My mind's made up I'm gonna pay the cost
Just to see salvation let the lost come home to You
I see a vision of a generation crying out to You
I see a vision of a generation bowed down before You
On our knees, Lord have mercy cause we have sinned
Come wash us clean we long to see Your glory Your glory
Jesus is coming again He's coming again
Jesus is coming again He's coming again
Jesus is coming again I know He's coming again
Jesus is coming again He's coming again
Jesus is coming again I know He's coming again
Jesus is coming again He's coming again
So take my life I'm giving it all to You
Whatever You want me to do I'm gonna follow You
My mind's made up I'm gonna pay the cost
Just to see salvation let the lost come home to You
Closing Thoughts
God doesn't make bad things happen to us. He came to give us life and to live with Him eternally by trusting in Jesus alone for our salvation. God is bigger than any calamity that we experience in this world. His love never fails--thank You, Jesus. God wants us to know He's faithful to complete what He's started in all of us who have put our hope and trust in Jesus. This song is a beautiful way to express our devotion. It gives us hope and inspiration as God's children.
We can face our daily battles with more courage and strength because we know that whatever the outcome, He's there for us. It's based on His promise in Romans 8:28: "God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." This is a truth for believers to cling to. We're not supposed to just hope it is true or turn to the Lord as only our last resort, but daily be washed by the truth of the Word of God.
This song represents the victory we have over our battles before we even know the earthly outcome. We trust that God goes before us and wins. Think about the type of faith we're called to have as believers. It's described as the faith of a mustard seed. This song is a faith statement.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, "You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart." Jaime has once again written a song that touches my heart and meets me where I am spiritually like her other hit worship song, "Hear My Worship."
I have taken time to reflect on and sing this beautiful song to God, which always comforts me. As part of my daily devotionals, I sing at least one praise song daily to strengthen my relationship with Jesus. So, I encourage you to spend some time with Him as well.
My favorite part of this great new song for the Church is when Jaime sincerely sings, "So take my life I'm giving it all to You/Whatever You want me to do I'm gonna follow You/My mind's made up I'm gonna pay the cost/Just to see salvation let the lost come home to You," as though we're eavesdropping on Jaime's prayer.
If God is with us, we can endure anything. This song is about submitting our worries, anxieties, and stress to God. So, let Him be your guide. God wants to walk beside you. And, He wants us to be bold and unafraid by acknowledging that: "Jesus is coming again He's coming again/Jesus is coming again I know He's coming again/Jesus is coming again He's coming again." Amen to that.
