Rising contemporary Christian artist Katy Nichole is an artist to watch. Her debut single, "In Jesus Name (God of Possible)," derived from a simple chorus she released on TikTok, has topped Billboard radio and iTunes music charts. The song was created from words in 23-year-old Katy's prayer journal that were written during a global health crisis and in response to her own story of suffering, hope, and healing.

Sharing her unwavering belief in God's ability to heal and the power of prayer, Katy's debut single connected with audiences around the world looking for healing and restoration in a weary and anxious world. The chorus was inspired by one of Katy's multiple journal entries and has led to the release of her debut album, Jesus Changed My Life, which also includes the hit songs "Jesus Changed My Life," "Hold On," and "God is In This Story." The album showcases Katy's gifts as a songwriter and her shimmering, emotion-laden voice. This album is loaded with positive grace-filled messages of hope. Her songs address the pressures of life, and she understands that her identity only comes from her relationship with God. I had the chance to speak with Katy in person before Winter Jam in Reading, Pennsylvania about her follow-up song, "My God Can."

Please tell me the personal story behind this song.

This song is so special because I got to write it with some of my closest friends--Josh Havens, Jordan Mohilowski, and Ethan Hulse--and I got to collaborate with the beautiful and talented Naomi Raine, which was such an honor. I hope this song gives you the confidence to trust fully in God in everything. Let this be your anthem: "I'm standing in the confidence that even though I can't, my God can." It's based on the verse Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

I want to remind you today that even when you don't feel strong, God is strong. His strength never fails. There is nothing impossible with God. He will go before you, and He will exceed every expectation that you've ever had. I want to remind you today that even when you can't do something, God can. And that is something that I have confidence in.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Matthew 19:26 (NIV): Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV): "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Romans 8:11 (VOICE): If the Spirit of the One who resurrected Jesus from the dead lives inside of you, then you can be sure that He who raised Him will cast the light of life into your mortal bodies through the life-giving power of the Spirit residing in you.

John 10:10 (ESV): "The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

John 16:33 (NIV): "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV): "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."

Ephesians 3:20-21 (NKJV): "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

What is the takeaway message?

Even when you don't feel strong, God is strong. His strength never fails. There is nothing impossible with God. He will go before you, and He will exceed every expectation you've ever had. This song is my anthem for you. Even when I can't, my God can! I know firsthand what it means to be broken and desperate. However, I have also experienced the beauty and wonder of God redeeming and breathing life into situations that seemed utterly hopeless. I want my music to speak the truth and shine a light for those going through dark times.

Lyrics

I know someone
Who knows what I'm up against
I know someone
Who's here in the midst of it
Fighting for me
In a battle I could never win
All on my own

I might not be able to part the waters
Might not be able to calm the storms
Might not be able to make my giants fall
But good thing I'm not alone
Cause there is a power that is greater
So I'm not afraid of what's ahead
I'm standing in the confidence
That even though I can't
My God can

He'll heal those who hurt
And comfort every broken heart
Restore the homes
Of families who've been torn apart
Tell chains to break
And do what seems impossible
Like only He can

I might not be able to part the waters
Might not be able to calm the storms
Might not be able to make my giants fall
But good thing I'm not alone
Cause there is a power that is greater
So I'm not afraid of what's ahead
I'm standing in the confidence
That even though I can't

I can do all things, all things
Through Christ who gives me strength
I can do all things, all things
Cause His Spirit lives in me
I can do all things, all things
Through Christ who gives me strength
I can do all things, all things
Cause His Spirit lives in me

I might not be able to part the waters
Might not be able to calm the storms
Might not be able to make my giants fall
But good thing I'm not alone
Cause there is a power that is greater
So I'm not afraid of what's ahead
I'm standing in the confidence
That even though I can't
My God can

Closing Thoughts

Take in and sing this song's sincere and emotive lyrics of submission. Sing it as loud as you can. Let it be your anthem. But don't just sing the words--sing everything in complete submission to Him.

This life song challenges us to step out in faith and trust God--even when we want to give up or can't see where we're going. Remember, we aren't the power source to overcome life's challenges. There is a higher power in God that provides true strength and energy. In our weakness, God's strength is perfect.

This song represents our victory over our battles--even before we know the earthly outcome. So, trust that God is going before us and wins. If we think about the type of faith we're called to have as believers, it's described as the faith of a mustard seed.

When I read the Bible, I'm strengthened with the truth that fear, worry, and anxiety are not God's plans for my life. So, trust God's Word. Jesus commands us to trust God's Word completely, no matter the circumstances. Our thoughts are constantly under attack by the enemy. This song is a daily prayer asking God to come and change our hearts and lives in such a way that our behavior and the way we live flow from God living inside of us as believers.

That's what this song is all about. We are aware of many situations involving people taking their own lives after dealing with depression. I've personally struggled with depression, worry, and anxiety.

We're called as Christians to believe in the freedom that we have on the cross of Jesus. We're free from our fears, addictions, insecurities, and perfectionism. Jesus came to die for us so we can all truly live in Him.

This song gives me hope and reminds me to not give up. I listen to it daily to remind me of how God feels about me. Katy's hope is to pass on the life-giving message of Jesus Christ. As Katy so powerfully urges in this song, "He'll heal those who hurt/And comfort every broken heart/Restore the homes/Of families who've been torn apart/Tell chains to break/And do what seems impossible/Like only He can."

Allow The Holy Spirit to "cast the light of life into your mortal bodies." If you are struggling with depression, please know with certainty these life-giving words: "I can do all things, all things/Through Christ who gives me strength/I can do all things, all things/Cause His Spirit lives in me."

Know that being His is enough. This song has become my personal anthem, and I sing along at the top of my lungs to the sincere and emotive lyrics of submission. I'm deeply moved by the lyrics, "I might not be able to part the waters/Might not be able to calm the storms/Might not be able to make my giants fall/But good thing I'm not alone/Cause there is a power that is greater/So I'm not afraid of what's ahead/I'm standing in the confidence/That even though I can't/My God can." Amen to that.
