In the dynamic realm of Christian music, the past few years have witnessed a powerful resurgence of female vocalists, a trend that persisted into 2023. Among my top 10 albums, four are distinguished by the captivating voices of Lauren Daigle, Katy Nichole, Riley Clemmons, and Christa Wells, showcasing the profound impact of women in the industry. Male vocalists Jason Gray and Matthew West contribute exceptional artistry alongside these incredible talents. The bands Consumed by Fire, NEEDTOBREATHE, Citizens, and Bethel Music complete the ensemble.

One standout newcomer, Katy Nichole, made her mark with an album that stands among the finest I've ever heard. Other famous artists, including Lauren Daigle, Riley Clemmons, Jason Gray, Consumed by Fire, Matthew West, Christa Wells, and Citizens, have each delivered what I consider to be the best of their discography, securing spots in my top 10 albums of the year.

Christian music has once again flourished with the release of career-defining albums, marking another exceptional year for the genre. Don’t miss out on any of these great albums. I’d love to read any feedback on albums I may have missed and whether there are any surprises. God bless.

Lauren Daigle by Lauren Daigle

Lauren Daigle’s self-titled release showcases her gifts as a songwriter and her shimmering, emotion-laden voice. This album carries a positive message of hope, addressing life pressures and reinforcing her identity in God. Do yourself a favor and listen to these beautiful expressions of faith, hope, and love.

Several personal pieces move me—especially “Thank God I Do,” “Valuable,” “To Know Me,” “Don’t Believe Them,” “Love Me Still,” “Sometimes,” and “Be Okay.” If you're a fan of female singers who offer catchy and empowering songs that make you think, then the extended version of Lauren Daigle's new album is perfect. It's my album of the year.

Jesus Changed My Life by Katy Nichole

Sharing her unwavering belief in God’s ability to heal and the power of prayer, Katy Nichole’s debut single connected with audiences worldwide looking for healing and restoration in a weary and anxious world. I'm engaged by these sacred songs' emotional vocals and prayerful lyrics. Katy’s vocals will soothe your soul, and the vertical lyrics will direct your attention and focus on Jesus.

Several personal songs melt my heart significantly: “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” “Jesus Changed My Life,” “Living Proof,” “Please,” and “Hold On.” If you like female singers who make you think while you enjoy their catchy and empowering songs, Jesus Changed My Life is for you. This is easily one of my top albums of the year, filled with healing songs in Jesus’ name.

Church Pew by Riley Clemmons

Riley Clemmons’ latest album, Church Pew, showcases her unique gift as a singer/songwriter with a big, memorable, dynamic, yet intimate voice. The album's emotional vocals and prayerful lyrics in songs like "Man Named Jesus," "Loved by You," and "Lifting Me Up" are both engaging and inspirational. If you like female singers who make you think while you enjoy their catchy and empowering songs, Church Pew is for you. I have three young daughters. This upbeat pop album features positive biblical messages and provides a great alternative to mainstream pop music. This is easily one of my top pop albums of the year, filled with songs for healing.

Land of the Living by Jason Gray

I admire Jason Gray’s intentionality and focus on God's provision. Jason's songs on Land of the Living celebrate the breath of God's Holy Spirit being breathed into his life. I can relate to his songs about anxiety and mental health. Jason is one of my favorite singer-songwriters in Christian music because his songs are emotional, vulnerable, and authentic. The standout tracks include "Place for Me," "Questions," and "Hold On to Hope."

Jason is an anointed songwriter and singer who inspires listeners with his poignant words, tender singing, and inspirational truths. His songs capture God's unconditional love for us despite our wrongdoings. God wants us to know that He's faithful to complete what He's started in all of us who have put our hope and trust in Jesus. Land of the Living is Jason's best album, one of my year's top albums.

First Things First by Consumed by Fire

First Things First is worship band Consumed by Fire’s much anticipated full-length album. The album demonstrates multi-talented musicianship with creative, insightful lyrics and ear-grabbing melodies. Standout songs, “First Things First,” “Goodbye Ole Me,” “Walk with Jesus,” and “It’s a Yes” are great selections to worship God. It’s important as believers that others around us see the light reflected in our lives: our words, actions, behaviors, and even our thoughts.

Romans 12:2 says don’t conform to the patterns of this world. That’s darkness. Our enemy seeks to destroy us with darkness. Instead, seek the Kingdom of God and put “First Things First.” I enjoy this album's upbeat and ambient musical vibe, and the melodies and lyrics are catchy and biblical. Musically, the album doesn’t conform to the typical contemporary Christian music pattern.

CAVES by NEEDTOBREATHE

NEEDTOBREATHE, a famous rock band, has quickly become one of my all-time favorites due to its exceptional lyrics that reflect my spiritual beliefs as a Christian. Their songs remind me to submit to God and humbly ask for His presence. True beauty can only be seen when we fully surrender to Him and step out of our comfort zones.

CAVES is one of my top picks of the year, coming from both the Christian and mainstream music markets. You'll appreciate this new release if you've enjoyed their previous work. CAVES is a highly infectious, energetic, and emotionally captivating album that I have heard this year, and it is bound to become one of your favorite albums of the year.

My Story Your Glory by Matthew West

On his latest album, My Story Your Glory, famous Christian contemporary artist Matthew West solidifies his place among the finest songwriters of his day with a probing spiritual curiosity and imaginative, self-examining lyrics. The album's poignant songwriting is coupled with musical excellence, as each track urges listeners to see God better. It is a highly recommended album that will connect with all those who like catchy songs filled with truth and yearning for God.

The album's rock beats, catchy melodies, and solid lyrics reflect a strong dependence on God. My Story Your Glory is an exciting musical journey, one of the best of the year. Matthew's enthusiastic and reverent writing style and singing have consistently drawn me in. His prayerful sentiments are always filled with his adoration of God.

Redwood by Christa Wells

Christa Wells has an exceptional talent for uplifting spirits, and her music never fails to inspire me. Her style is infectious and upbeat, with her powerful and unique voice seamlessly blending with catchy melodies. She has an infectious and joyful musical style, layering her strong and distinguished vocals over the top of one hooky melody after another. She has delivered the ideal album to minister to anyone struggling with fear and self-doubt.

Every song showcases Christa’s excellent singing voice; you can practically hear her smile as she delivers one infectious song after another. This album's layered and well-produced musical arrangements perfectly accentuate Christa’s powerful and passionate songs. Don't miss out on one of the most inspirational albums of the year. You won't be able to help but to sing along with the stand-out songs “Redwood,” “Here for You,” and “Wherever I Go.”

I Can’t Find the Edges of You by Citizens

Contemporary band Citizens has yet again released an excellent collection of confessional and authentic expressions of faith with their latest album, I Can’t Find the Edges. The songs are poignant and powerful, and the band's more seasoned musicianship, intensity, and intentionality in recording the new tunes are evident. This album challenges listeners to think about how they are living out their faith.

Every song released by Citizens entirely focuses the listener on joining in praise, worship, and adoration. The band's passionate songs are sung with vocal sincerity and reverence, with biblically based lyrics. These songs will connect with listeners and showcase the band's multi-talented musicianship, their trademark balance of vocal tenderness and lyrical intensity, beautiful and stirring musical arrangements, and songs filled with hope and inspiration.

Come Up Here by Bethel Music

Come Up Here from Bethel Music is an album filled with several new worship songs that inspire me to praise God for His love towards me. The album has an exciting, ambient musical vibe, with catchy melodies and prayerful lyrics. The vocals are excellent, and the lyrics reflect a sincere faith in Jesus. The songs are passionate, sung with reverence, and biblically inspired lyrics. Several instantly worshipful and singable arrangements are perfect for adding to your Sunday morning set list.

Look no further if you’re looking for fresh, biblically inspired, and Jesus-focused worship. This album beautifully reminds us that our God is beyond our imagination and perfectly captures that sentiment. It’s a must-have addition to your worship collection, creating moments of deep connection with Jesus. Undoubtedly, each song puts the Word of God into the minds, mouths, and hearts of Christians everywhere. As a fan of worship band Bethel Music, I eagerly await each new release, and Come Up Here is a stellar offering.
