Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
The Epilogue. by Trip Lee One of Reach Records' legacy members, Dallas' own Trip Lee drops his seventh studio project since 2006. After a five-year season pastoring at Concord Church, Lee took time off to refocus on his music resulting in two projects released in back-to-back years. The Epilogue. is a brilliant collision of soul, worship, hip-hop and gospel music. Live instrumentation combined with synthesizers, drums, and sonic surprises. Lyrically, Lee continues to master storytelling and bridging daily life with his faith walk. As a common recipe, fans see the translucent side of Lee and what troubles his soul faces.
Contained within his latest release, Lee delves deep into the knowledge he’s acquired through decades of battling major health issues, serving as a pastor in various faith communities, and his unwavering belief in the faithfulness of God – a truth that sustains him daily. The topics in the album explored range from the human struggle for control, doubt, pressures of life, faith, and provides a transparent and genuine peek into the challenges Lee has persevered through often. Featured artists include KB, Lecrae, WHATUPRG, Hulvey, Kirk Franklin, Madison Lynn Ward and Jonathan Traylor. Lee dabbled in production with last year’s The End., but was able to showcase his own production skills heavily on this album. The Epilogue. is one of Lee’s greatest works, a masterpiece even.

Roy Tosh x Kurtis Hoppie - "STRANGERS" RMG Amplify's Roy Tosh and Kurtis Hoppie return with their fourth collaboration track headed towards a joint EP soon-to-be-released. Their latest offering is also their most dynamic. The duo was aiming towards something worthy of a movie soundtrack, yet glorifies God with the end product being gloriously cinematic. R Boyce hopped on the production and brought such a vision into reality. This very well may be the best single dropped in 2023 within the CHH space. It's God-honoring, the 808s are "melt your face off" big, and the energy is monsterous. "Came through on the wrong side but the Holy Ghost brought him back / woke up with a new mind, a new heart, and a new purpose in tact," reaveals Hoppie. I absolutely love the message of this track. This isn't one to miss. Stream "STRANGERS" on Spotify and Apple Music
Second Wind by Mission AOYNOM's and RMG Amplify's Mission releases his sixth solo album. Second Wind is an album for anyone who has poured their time, energy, and effort into something and didn't see the justifiable fruition of it's intended impact. Mission speaks on second chances granted by God through the love, grace, and mercy of Jesus Christ our Savior. The project's goal is to fuel listeners to continue to follow their dreams regardless of the difficulty of the road they're traveling. To perservere and move forward towards completion. The 13-track collection is an array of reminders of God never fails us. Regardless of the song, Mission speaks to situations God has pulled him out of and circumstances God has guided Mission to victory.
Featured artists include Reece Lache', Parriz Chariz, Mike Teezy, Jaron, Scribe Music, Aaron Cole, and Pastor Mike, Jr. My favorite tracks are "Lord Knows," "Testimony" featuring Aaron Cole and Pastor Mike, Jr. and "Cross Boundaries." The album contains some gems within the production lens. A ton of innovation and balance is noticely attributed. Mission has always rapped with a proverbrial chip on his shoulders and rightfully so. He's one of the most underrated artists when pure lyricists are mentioned. Mission is capable of outrapping the best of him and it's evident throughout the album.
