Our featured artist this week is The Young Escape. I adore this group for many reasons, most notably their heart-wrenching song, "Count on Me." "Love Me Like You" is another hit they dropped near the beginning of their musical journey. Hailing from Southern California, they bring a refreshing sound to the Christian contemporary music industry.
They have funneled their passion for God into their latest song, "Won't Lose Sight." I'll dive into this melody and an older one of my favorites.
"Worship You There"
"By the rivers where I'm resting as healing waters flow
In the desert where I'm dying 'cause I feel so alone
You're still God, You'll lead me on (Lead me on)
Through victories and despair
It doesn't matter where You take me
I will worship You there."
The Young Escape is authentic, and that quality reflected in this song made me feel instantly seen: "My heart gets distracted, pulled a million ways/The constant in my chaos is You will never change." I'm sure all of us can relate to that. We must work on our devotion to Jesus and our commitments to the world. I pray that the balance will improve, and I believe God can lighten the load. Nevertheless, we must learn to praise Him even under the weight of life. How else will we shift our focus to Him so He can ease the burden? I want to restate that God is with you, and He's not leaving. But let's learn to worship Him anywhere He takes us.
"Won't Lose Sight"
"If You're who You say You are
I can wait inside the dark
For You to take my hand."
This song powerfully speaks of trust and the need to let go of our preconceptions about how life should go. Instead, God asks us to wait for Him. He will always come through, even and perhaps especially when it is not on our own timeline. The band sings, "Tell it to my heart and head," a statement I resonated with deeply. Just telling my head means I'll overthink it, but simply jamming the words into my heart won't do much for my daily life. Praise God that He understands how we function and injects His glorious truth into every particle of our being. The confidence of knowing He will come through allows me to rest, even in the darkness. His light is coming.
