Travis Green and Forward City, featuring Tony Fresh, have released an aptly timed song titled "Put Your Name on Me," which speaks to the journey of self-discovery. As one who works in education and sees things happening in our society, labels are a big buzz. Why? People are hurting. Youths wonder if they are worth loving and seeking an identity to hold onto. Yet, this song, "Put Your Name on Me," brings us to the center of it all: Jesus. A guitar lead introduction starts with Tony Fresh singing of his life being in a horrible place before surrendering to Christ.

"I was a beggar/I was an orphan/I put Your name on it/You put Your name on me/I was a label, no identity/I was a sinner, thought it was over/I put Your name on it/You put your name on me."

When you are without Christ or do not know your worth in Him, you seek many other places for validation and identification. Paul reminded the Church of Corinth that Jesus became a man so we may be made righteous through Him. One of the many scriptures reminding us of who we are in Him and who He is is 1 Corinthians 5:21.

I love when they build into the chorus and sing, "Jesus/Oh how I love the name, Jesus/Something happens when we call You/You move/You'll never leave us the same." Pastor Greene steps in mid-song to put his "two cents in." The song continues to become a powerful tag, "You changed my name."

Parents, let your child hear this song. During the discussion, remind them of their identity as servants of a strong and loving God. This song is dedicated to anyone who needs to reconnect with Christ or be reminded of His true nature. Surrendering to Him is a powerful experience that sets us apart from the world. Unlike the world, He never labels us negatively but accepts us and gives us a new identity. "Put Your Name on Me" is the perfect anthem to help us feel this acceptance and renewed identity.
