AN EXCLUSIVE NRT CONCERT REPORT
A Night With Adie and Jeremy Camp
NRT contributor Kevin Davis gives a song-by-song review of an Adie and Jeremy Camp concert that took place on May 2, 2010 in Souderton, PA.

On the heels of the successful headline tour last fall, GRAMMY-nominated artist Jeremy Camp kicked off 2010 to reach listeners with his music, message and ministry with another headline acoustic tour. Camp ended his spring tour, “Jeremy Camp Live Unplugged,” with special guest and wife Adie on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Calvary Church in Souderton, PA. This tour was created with Camp’s fans in mind, providing an intimate night of worship and fellowship with Jeremy as well as Adie, who released her new album in March, Just You And Me.

Here’s my song-by-song description of the concert.

Adie opened the show sitting on a chair in a living room type stage design, and after telling us she was from South Africa started off with her hit song “When It's Over” from Don’t Wait. When she finished the song, she said, "Since I'm a mother of 2 girls, tonight will be my last concert for a long time to come, so it is a special occasion."

Next came “Love Come Down” from Just You And Me with Adie singing passionately, "reach us here and reach us now." She mentioned that she loves to sing that song early in the day and that the song is about turning this broken ground into holy ground.

She continued with “Where Could I Go,” with the great bridge, “We come just as we are.” The song got the sold-out crowd of 1,500 all singing along in worship.

Adie continued with just the chorus of “Hosanna,” my all-time favorite worship song by Hillsong UNITED, and closed with two of the most sincere and reflective songs from each of her albums, starting with “What Have I Done” and ending her set with “Soon,” an amazing cover of the Hillsong UNITED song by Brooke Ligertwood. I love that song from Hillsong UNITED’s Across The Earth: Tear Down The Walls and Adie’s version is excellent. The worshipful mood for the night was set with the stirring chorus, “I will be with the One I love, With unveiled face I’ll see Him, There my soul will be satisfied, Soon and very soon.”

I can’t say enough about Adie’s quiet and unassuming demeanor and her lovely singing voice. Her short set was an excellent way to get us ready for her husband’s set.

Jeremy Camp started off sitting at the piano and playing his version of “Give Me Jesus,” which is his closing song on his most recent album, Jeremy Camp Live. It was a great start, especially for an acoustic concert, and was the only song where we got just Jeremy at the piano. The entire crowd got to their feet and sang “You can have all this world, but give me Jesus.”

Camp was then joined by the band, and we all sang “Mighty To Save” together. Having recently attended a Hillsong UNITED concert, it has been a total blessing to sing that song with fellow believers in a concert setting. Camp said, “I love the worshipful atmosphere tonight. That's what it's all about. I love my wife as well as she's really taught me to love Jesus with all my heart.”

“Give You Glory” was next, and we all belted out “We give You glory, lifting up our hands and singing Holy, You alone are Worthy, We just want to touch Your heart Lord, touch Your heart.”

Camp continued with “Take You Back,” which was very powerful and confessional. I have always identified with the bridge, “I can only speak with a grateful heart, As I'm pierced by this gift of Your love, I will always bring an offering, I can never thank You enough.” The song makes me cry every time I sing it, and I was extremely moved moved in this concert setting.

One of the highlights for me next was with an acoustic version of “Tonight,” which is normally a rocker, but was perfect in this setting as we all sang back the chorus "tonight I take my cross, tonight I count the cost."

The first song Camp performed from Stay was “Right Here,” which is an awesome song and really fits this type of concert well as we all belted out “everywhere I go I know You’re not far away, You’re right here, You’re right here.”

An incredible moment of the night was next as we all stood up to dance and sing “I'm Alive.” Adie and Jeremy’s daughters, Arie and Bella, came out and we all jumped up and down and sang this great up-tempo song from Speaking Louder Than Before. Having three young daughters who love to sing and dance, this was a special moment for me.

Camp sat back down and couldn’t stop smiling and neither could we as he asked, “Wasn’t that fun?”

He got serious again and transitioned into the contemplative song, “This Man” (“Would you take the place of this man, Would you take the nails from his hands”) and ended by singing the chorus from Matt Redman’s song “Once Again” ("thank you for the cross my friend").

Continuing to worship, he sang “Empty Me,” which we sing at my church. It was just like the version on Jeremy Camp Live and Unplugged.

We ended the first part of the concert singing “Here I Am To Worship.” Camp read from Psalm 24:3-4: Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.

Camp then participated in a Q&A with the crowd answering some questions. He was asked how he keeps all these worship songs fresh, to which Camp responded: “It depends on my time with the Lord that day. I’ve sung some of these songs over 1,200 times in concert so I can’t rely on me, I have to rely on God.” Someone else asked him what was his life verse to which Jeremy answered Acts 20:24: But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Finally, someone asked him what was the first song he’d ever written? Embarrassed, Jeremy answered that he was 15 years old when he wrote it to the tune of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," and then the band started playing his first song called "Set Me Free."

Camp sang his original verse and then the actual song by Poison as he had just re-written a verse to that song.

After a brief intermission, the full band and Adie returned with “Jesus Loves Me,” done in a blues style. The concert continued with Mr. Camp's hit song, “Let It Fade,” which had us all singing along at the top of our lungs (“let this old life crumble, let it fade, let this new life offered be Your saving grace”). He then went on to tell us about his ministry which came from his response to losing his first wife Melissa to cancer when they were newly married. Out of that experience Camp wrote the next few songs for his first album, Stay, starting with “I Still Believe” and then “Walk By Faith,” with the moving lyrics, “Well I will walk by faith, Even when I cannot see, Well, because this broken road, Prepares Your will for me.” We then sang the chorus of “You Never Let Go” by Matt Redman.

Camp’s final songs are also based on his experience of losing his first wife and getting a glimpse of heaven by knowing God’s promise that one day Jesus will make “all things new.”

He closed with “Healing Hand of God" and “There Will Be A Day,” which are my all-time favorite songs by Jeremy Camp. They are so powerful, and I found myself completely caught up in the emotion of the amazing and inspiring lyrics. “There will be a day with no more tears, No more pain, and no more fears, There will be a day, When the burdens of this place, Will be no more, We'll see Jesus face to face.”

The tour was once again sponsored by Compassion International and featured Speaking Louder Ministries, which involves Camp and team reaching out locally to a set outreach in each market. "It has been a couple of years since we have done an acoustic tour,” shares Camp. “I love this type of tour because it is a very unique experience for everyone. The night is more mellow and allows me to talk more about the songs and the purpose behind them. They are smaller shows, usually in churches, and it turns out to be an amazing night of worship. With Adrienne being out on the road with our two girls, Arie and Bella, it made the tour a great family environment.”

That sums up the night quite nicely. I was there with my wife and some friends and a body of church believers who all got the great opportunity to hear great songs by one of the premier artists in Christian music. Jeremy and his wife Adie shared their hearts and testimony and songs of faith. It was a great night of worship to our amazing God.

Kevin Davis: "This is what a night of worship is all about--submitting completely to Jesus, leaving our pride and sin behind and committing to live every day for God. I can't say enough about the ministry and impact of this incredible band."
