Contemporary band Stars Go Dim recently released their album, Grace in the Wilderness. Their third studio project leads listeners on a pilgrimage toward hope that expands on the infectious pop that's defined frontman Chris Cleveland's catalog.
Coupling meaningful lyrics with a voice that knows no bounds, Chris pulls out all the stops on the intrepid collection as his immaculate voice effortlessly glides across 13 tracks—all co-written by the ace songwriter.
Stars Go Dim previously made waves as their debut radio single, "You Are Loved," resonated with listeners and surged up the charts along with their follow-up hits, “Walking Like Giants,” and “Heaven on Earth.” I had the chance to speak with Chris about their latest single “Yes He Does.”
Please tell me the personal story behind this song. Any takeaway messages?
"Yes He Does" is the exact reminder that I need in my life every day to know that God isn't far away and distant. But is personal and with me in everything I do. It can be easy to lose sight of that—especially in the chaos of life.
This song reminds me that no matter what is going on around me, God's love isn't through with me—and you—yet. He's not done pursuing you or me. He restores hope with every breath and faith with every sunrise.
So, when I wonder if God is a God who is active in my life or if He even cares about me—His faithfulness always lets me know, “yes, He does.’ His faithfulness always lets you know.
I hope “Yes He Does” reminds you that God isn't far away and distant. He’s here with you in everything you do.
What Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Joshua 1:9 (NKJV): “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Matthew 19:26(NIV): Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
2 Corinthians 12:9(NKJV): "And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
Deuteronomy 4:39(NIV): "Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other."
Hebrews 11:1 (NLT): "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."
Romans 4:3(NLT): For the Scriptures tell us, "Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith."
Isaiah 43:19 (VOICE): "Watch closely: I am preparing something new; it's happening now, even as I speak, and you're about to see it. I am preparing a way through the desert; Waters will flow where there had been none."
Jeremiah 33:3(VOICE): "Call to Me, and I will answer you. I will tell you of great things, things beyond what you can imagine, things you could never have known."
Lyrics
Have you forgotten the one who first called you by name?
Have you let life's disappointments make you think He's changed Won't you come and see again?
Let your heart believe again Yes, He does
Still heal the broken
Run to the hurting
Pour out His love Yes, He does
Restore the hope of
All those who wait for
A miracle
Yes, He does
Yes, He does Don't you lose faith when it feels like your world's caving in
God won't let go, He knows who you are and where you've been There's no tear overlooked
Nothing He can't turn for good Yes, He does
Still heal the broken
Run to the hurting
Pour out His love Yes, He does
Restore the hope of
All those who wait for
A miracle Yes, He does
(Still heal the broken, run to the hurting, pour out His love)
Yes, He does
(Restore the hope of all those who wait for a miracle)
Greater things are still to come
'Cause His love isn't through
So let your heart believe again
That He's not done with you Greater things are still to come
'Cause His love isn't through
So let your heart believe again
That He's not done with you
Yes, He does
Still heal the broken
Run to the hurting
Pour out His love Yes, He does
Restore the hope of
All those who wait for
A miracle Yes, He does (yes, He does, yes, He does, yes, He does)
Yes, He does (yes, He does, yes, He does, yes, He does)
Closing Thoughts
“Yes He Does” is all about having a strong faith. Without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Sometimes we tend to think we can try to know everything. God tells us in the Bible that with faith, we can do anything in Christ.
We can't know everything, and we’re not in control. But trusting God gives us assurance that we don't have to be afraid. God will be there to pick us up when we fall. A challenge for me when I listen to this song is to pick an area of my life that I've been trying to control and instead put all my hope and trust in God.
Abraham was called a "friend of God." He chose to not choose when he allowed his nephew, Lot, to choose which way to go. In the end, Lot chose by sight. And Abraham chose to walk by faith and not by sight. God gave him credit for his obedience.
Righteousness comes from faith in the unseen, such as Abraham displayed in the Bible. Being a Christian means that we walk by faith, not by sight. Faith requires people to rely on the unseen. We walk by faith every day. The beauty of walking by faith is that we can learn to trust God more with our lives.
We shouldn't wait to fix ourselves before we step out in faith. We need to fully trust God. A theme verse for me for these devotionals has been Romans 8:11: "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you."
God keeps bringing the truth of His resurrection power through His Holy Spirit residing in believers to my attention. That's the beauty of His Word: it doesn't return void but provides a constant source of comfort and guidance. He gives us a clear path to draw closer to Him. The Lord wants to use us, drawing us closer to Himself and sending us into the world, filled with His Spirit.
As the song declares, “Yes, He does/Still heal the broken/Run to the hurting/Pour out His love/Yes, He does/Restore the hope of/All those who wait for a miracle.” What's awesome about this upbeat song is that it provides encouragement and personal motivation to fight the good fight of faith and finish running the race of life strong.
Stars Go Dim has written another great anthem that reminds us that under our own strength many mountains we face will seem impossible, but with God all things are possible. The same goes for salvation.
We can't earn heaven, it’s only through complete surrender to Jesus and putting all our hope in Him that can we be saved. As Christians, we all can loudly proclaim: “Greater things are still to come/'Cause His love isn't through/So let your heart believe again/That He's not done with you.” Amen to that.
