“The One (I’m Fighting For)” is a song I wrote for people who are dealing with difficult times in their lives. Recently, I have heard many stories from friends and fans who are going through struggles. I had this sense that so many of us, as a society and as a culture, are caught in this overwhelming heartache, sense of loneliness and sometimes, even a sense of despair. I wanted to write a song that spoke to all people who are hurting in these ways.
My goal was to write a song that reminded them that we are not alone in whatever we are going through. Life can feel like a fight. Sometimes it can even seem like a battle. In "The One (I’m Fighting For),” I wanted to paint this picture of God stepping into the ring with us to help us take on whatever we were going through.
Hebrews 13: 5-6 says,
“God has said, never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you. So we say with confidence the Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.”
I recently heard a message that reminded me of the enormous size and greatness of God. One example that always strikes me is the story of creation. In this particular message,
Revelation 4 was read and it illustrated to me the vastness of God's glory and the greatness of his throne. When I remember that this God has my back, and my best interests in mind, and how we have the privilege to approach this throne in prayer, it simply amazes me and reminds me of what a good God we have, and how much he loves us.
During that same message, the phrase "Living for Eternity" was mentioned. During difficult times, that phrase brings me a perspective that has helped encourage me through many situations.
As Christians, we believe that after this life is over we get to spend eternity in heaven. Eternity in heaven. The concept of
eternity continues to amaze me. When I compare the span of this life, and the magnitude of all of the problems that this life holds, nothing even comes close to the length of eternity.
It's hard to imagine a visual on this because eternity is infinitely big, and our perspective on life is, relatively, infinitely small. If you had a rope that had our life as the first inch, and the rest continued on around the world, it still wouldn't be long enough to contain the timeframe of eternity.
Remember, that in "Living for Eternity" you are living for the greater cause. I think that if we live our lives with prioritizing the big picture of eternity, it will give us an encouragement through our difficulties and an attitude of heavenly focus that will revolutionize our lives.
You and I know that we are not alone, and we have the opportunity to go out into the world and share God’s love with everyone else. You know as well as I do that this world is hurting and looking for hope. Let’s tell them that they don’t need to go it alone, but that God is there wanting to walk each step with us and willing to help us with each and every fight.
As people are driving in their car, or listening at home, we hope that our song, "The One (I'm Fighting For)" can be an encouragement to those going through a rough time. I hope you can remember that you are not alone in your troubles. And for some of you, I hope that this song can be a reminder to show God’s love to the world around you.
