The COVID-19 pandemic was like a long winter: so dark and uncertain. But now, at long last, the light is breaking through. Summer is almost here. And, life is quickly moving back to normal. Without a doubt, we have a greater appreciation now for what we used to take for granted; concerts and live music are two great examples. Now that summer is upon us and COVID-19 restrictions are lifting, we can finally gather and sing songs together again. What an amazing feeling.
So, expect lots of new music in the coming months. Here are some upcoming albums that you won't want to miss.
Crowder - Milk And Honey (6/11)
Music veteran Crowder was the first artist I saw in concert since the pandemic began. Great show. Since he left the David Crowder Band, Crowder has made quite a name for himself as a solo artist. He's released hit songs, such as "Forgiven," "Red Letters," and his latest, "Good God Almighty." And, in time for summer, Crowder is dropping his new album Milk And Honey. Crowder says that he writes songs for the church, and that's exactly what he's done with this new album. So, sing these new songs together in church. They certainly don't disappoint.
Phil Wickham - Hymn of Heaven (6/25)
Contemporary artist Phil Wickham's songs are powerful; they've impacted so many lives over the years, including mine. At the end of June, Phil will drop his new album, Hymn of Heaven. Recently, Phil released his song, "It's Always Been You." And it got me hooked on his music again. There's so much power in worship, and Phil brings that with his new 13-track album. Hymn of Heaven lifts up Jesus in every song. You won't want to miss out on this one.
Ellie Holcomb - Canyon (6/25)
It's been four years since contemporary artist Ellie Holcomb released an album (her last project was Red Sea Road). But, she's back with her new album, Canyon. Ellie has spent much of her time off healing from past harms. And, the byproduct are these incredible new songs that reflect beauty and strength. I love hearing about female artists who are influencing Christian music, and Ellie is one of those artists. Canyon drops at the end of June. So far, the songs she's released, such as the title track "Canyon," have been amazing. Expect the full-length album to be the same.
Boiling Point - Hope Lives Here (6/25)
It's been four years since the independent rock band has released new music, but they are ready to reengage their fans this summer with their Broadhead Music Group debut, Hope Lives Here. The new EP continues to demonstrate Boiling Point's thoughtful nature and range of emotions that are on full display with this release.
Chris Tomlin & Friends - Summer EP (7/2)
Contemporary music icon Chris Tomlin is no stranger to the Christian music scene. His songs are sung in churches every week (and I'm pretty sure that just about everyone has heard his music at some point). Last year, Chris released his first Chris Tomlin & Friends album. And, since its release, his songs have crossed over into mainstream genres, such as country. That album was such a hit that Chris is releasing more collaborative music on his follow-up EP, Chris Tomlin & Friends: Summer. Not much information is available yet. But, let your mind wander about who Chris will collaborate with. The possibilities are endless. I'm excited to see what Chris has up his sleeve.
Amy Grant - Heart In Motion 30th Anniversary (7/9)
Like Chris Tomlin, Amy Grant is a contemporary music legend. Since 1977, she's released music, which, consequently, has made a huge impact on Christian music. It's been 30 years since her mainstream crossover album Heart In Motion was released. And, Amy is celebrating these 30 years with a brand new anniversary edition of her hit album. The new edition features never-before-released tracks, as well as remixes of some of her popular songs. I love the idea of revamping an old album. I hope more artists will do this as well. If you're an Amy Grant fan, you don't want to miss out on the celebration.
Coby James - Mixtape: Side B EP (7/16)
Pop artist Coby James is only 19 years old, and he's already signed to a record label, as well as released four EPs and multiple singles. As a new artist, he's ahead of the game. Pop artists like Coby, Leanna Crawford, Cade Thompson, and Riley Clemmons have been dominating the Christian music industry lately. It seems like there has been an uprising of young Christian artists, and that's so exciting to see. Coby's latest project has been his mixtapes. In April, he released his EP Mixtape: Side A. In July, he will be releasing a side B. Later, he'll drop a third side. So, stay tuned.
Steven Malcolm - All Is True EP (7/23)
It seems like many artists are releasing EPs this summer, which is great to see. A few months ago, hip-hop artist Steven Malcolm released his latest single, "Glory on Me." As it turns out, the single will be featured on his brand new EP, All Is True. It's been a little while since we've heard a new album from Steven. So, hopefully, this new EP will lead to a full-length album. Until then, we can enjoy this new five-track EP when it releases in July.
NEEDTOBREATHE - Into The Mystery (7/30)
Rock band NEEDTOBREATHE is one of my all-time favorites. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I got bored and decided to step out of my contemporary Christian music/pop comfort zone and listen to some alternative rock. In the process, I fell in love with bands, such as Switchfoot and NEEDTOBREATHE. So yes, I lost my mind when I found out that NEEDTOBREATHE was releasing their new album, Into The Mystery. To cap it off, the band will go on tour this fall (with Switchfoot, might I add). Also, they're releasing a documentary. During the fall, the band moved into a house in the middle of nowhere to work on the new album. In only 21 days, they were able to record and produce this new record. It was a crazy endeavor, but I applaud them for that. I can't wait to hear it.
Danny Gokey - Stand In Faith (8/20)
We're concluding this list of upcoming albums with a release that I'm pumped for. In 2019, pop artist Danny Gokey released his incredible album Haven't Seen It Yet. Now, he's back with another full-length studio project coming this August. Recently, Danny released his new single, and title track, from the album, "Stand In Faith." Haven't Seen It Yet was a stunning record, and I'm sure we can expect the same from Stand In Faith.
