Kari Jobe and her husband, Cody Carnes, have hit a home run in what some would call worship song of the year. The couple wrote the song with Elevation Worship's Steven Furtick and Chris Brown.
Originally, Elevation Worship, performing with Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes, included “The Blessing” on their 2020 album, Graves Into Gardens. The worship band recently released a studio version of the song on their 2021 release, Graves Into Gardens: Morning & Evening. Also, Kari released an EP containing multiple versions of the widely popular song. It includes a studio version, a cinematic version, and a radio version and named her new solo release after the track.
Besides the original artists releasing many different versions, in Christian music, you know a song is popular if many artists and bands release their own renditions. Here are a few versions. Tell us which ones you like best.
Bethel Music (feat. We The Kingdom)
Bethel’s version is so peaceful. The harmonies in the chorus are beautiful. The song makes me want to lay down in the dark and meditate in His presence. Bethel released this version on their 2020 album, Peace. A word, I think, that describes Bethel’s “The Blessing.” If you're looking for music to meditate on, then this version is the one for you. It's also good if you want some alone time with God.
Caleb + Kelsey
Anthem Lights’ Caleb Grimm and his wife, Kelsey, have used their talents to put their spin on many popular worship songs. The vocal duo turned “The Blessing” into a Christmas piece. The vocals work well together to build a custom intimacy for the song that's different from the original. I’m the type of guy who’ll leave his Christmas tree up all year round. So, if I want to listen to my ever-changing Christmas song playlist, I’ll be sure to make Caleb + Kelsey’s version close to the top.
Shane & Shane (feat. Dinah Wright)
The duo included a version of “The Blessing” on their 2020 project, The Worship Initiative. The vocals for this popular worship song are very intimate. And, Shane & Shane captured that intimacy, similar to the original version. What I like is they didn’t change the song's arrangement. Shane & Shane’s version builds up to a fantastic worship experience.
The Trampolines
This electronic dance music (EDM) band turned “The Blessing” into a dance tune. At the song’s mid-point you hear just the singer. Then, the song segues into a climactic finish, complete with a well-tuned dance beat.
The Worshicken
If you’re looking for a laugh or two, then give The Worshicken’s rendition a try. Who would have thought? A chicken singing a worship song. I think it’s gobbledygook. But, it’s a great way to inject some humor into worship. By the way, I'm now in the mood for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
