Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify to listen to all the latest.
Datin x Marty (from Social Club Misfits) - "Who Do You Believe" Social Club Misfits' own Marty lends his increasingly diverse production skills to the single and soon-to-be-released EP that he solely produced off of a conversation sparked over Twitter. The production of the single reaks of freshness. It adds almost a radio hit-like feel where listeners can just move their bodies during its entirety. Datin is known for hard-hitting lyrical and theological content. This track is no different. He challenges listeners to stay the course of a faithful believer, not wavering towards temptation and sin. Marty is definitely making himself a name as a man of multiple talents while his skill set with production is fine-tuned with each growth spurt. The incredible combined sound of this single definitely hypes me up personally to hear the entire EP of the same name sometime this month.
Porsha Love feat. Swaizy - "Leave Me Lone"
Two independent artists on the bubble shine brightly together on this mellow, yet lyrically hype track from Porsha Love. As I always try to encourage, we need to lift our godly ladies up more and more in this CHH space. I absolutely love how the track begins mellow and slowly builds into a blazing inferno of verbal heat. The echoes of the flute in the background compliments as the proverbial cherry on top. Swaizy fires first, then Porsha dominates. The theme within points out the haters to those just trying to get by and live within personal and business situations. The temperatures may be dipping outside as winter approaches, but it will feel like summer on the stereo with this banger!
AKLESSO feat. Sam Rivera - "Popular" Good City Music's AKLESSO returns with his third single of 2020 while he prepares his next body of creative work. The track features one of the smoothest and truly soulful voices in the industry, Sam Rivera. "Popular" adds to AKLESSO's creative "bag" of talents as the tempo is shifted downwards into a mellow, chilled vibe. This has radio play written all over it. He downplays being popular with the world, yet silent for Jesus. AKLESSO is never ashamed to pronounce his faith and abilities founded by Christ. With the chaotic tone of the present week of political warfare, it's a blessing to rest and relax in a track pointing towards faith and our Creator. Honestly, this is by far my favorite track from him this year. Excited about what's to come before 2020 closes out.
