Josh Wilson’s debut album,
Trying to Fit the Ocean in a Cup, includes the Top 10 radio hit, “Savior Please,” and also includes the stand-out songs, “Tell Me” and “3 Minute Song.” Josh’s great blend of personal lyrics and catchy music emerges as a focal point of Josh’s sophomore album,
Life Is Not A Snapshot. This seven-song collection reflects Josh’s great ability for framing questions of faith into musical expressions of trust.
Opening song “Sing” showcases Josh’s guitar playing and singing skills with a song that encourages listeners to
"sing to the One who is our King" with the bridge
“Jesus, Jesus, our Emmanuel, God is with us now.” The song gets me in the mood to start singing songs of praise in anticipation of the Christmas season and is the current single from the album.
I got the great opportunity to interview Josh about his song “Sing,” my favorite track from
Life Is Not A Snapshot.

Please tell me the personal story behind writing this song.
It started out as a Christmas song written for an EP last year. The song is really a celebration of what the Lord has done in our lives. The lyrics,
“Cause we could never get back home with broken hearts, So Home has come to meet us where we are” really sum up the main theme of the song, which is that God had to come to us to save us from our sins. What a great reason to celebrate the birth of our Savior!
Please tell me about any Scripture verses that you have used to write this song.
1st John 4:14: 14And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
Job 37:14: 14 “Listen to this, O Job; Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.
What is the take-away message for listeners as we prepare our hearts for Christmas?
This song is really a reminder that we need to take those Scripture verses to heart and spend time "standing still" and marvel at God’s amazing works. We need to testify to the Truth of Jesus being sent to be the Savior of the world. In this broken world, Christ is with us, redeeming us, and one day all things will be made right.
Here are the lyrics:
Every bit of history
And every single breath we breathe
Has led us here and brought us to our knees
From carrying the curse we bear
And praying that He’s heard our prayers
To set us free
Oh, set us free
Cause we could never get back home with broken hearts
So Home has come to meet us where we are
So sing, God is with us
Sing, He has come to save us
Sing, He will never leave us
Glory in the highest, everybody sing
To the One who is our King
He has come to bring redemption to us
God is with us
Glory in the highest, everybody sing
We have found our hope again
In the Son of God and Son of Man
This Savior King is changing all we know
By carrying the curse we bear
For everybody everywhere
He lived and died and brought us life
And we will rise to meet Him in the sky
Jesus, Jesus, our Emmanuel
God is with us now
Cause we could never get back home with broken hearts
So Home has come to us
“Sing” is a great original Christmas song to lift up to our Savior as we celebrate the coming of our King. As Josh sings
“Cause we could never get back home with broken hearts, So Home has come to us,” I can’t help but be moved as I prepare to celebrate that restoration that Jesus brings as we celebrate His birth!
With
Life Is Not A Snapshot, Josh creates melodic flights of fancy that take you on a journey beyond what is to what should be on his richly textured, gently nuanced performance of the world’s most famous hymn, “Amazing Grace,” Josh Wilson directs listeners beyond the performance and toward the Giver of all good gifts. Here’s a great quote to ponder:
“I am an old man, and though my memory is failing, I remember two things very clearly: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great savior.” --John Newton, author of
Amazing Grace
