Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify to listen to all the latest.
Peabod feat. Cochren & Co. & Resound - "Heavenly Father" Centricity's Peabod is back for his second single of the summer. The track has the sound of a Christian Contemporary (CCM)/CHH mash-up as he gives us a taste of his folk roots and harmonies as part of his growing sonic arsenal."Heavenly Father" sounds like it's molded to smash the Christian radio airwaves. Gotee's Cochren and Co. adds a soulful hook to the slowed tempo and chill vibe. Peabod calls out to God to reign over his life during these trying, stressful times America sits within. His constant creativity extends to the visuals for the track too, directed by Jake Campbell.
Mitch Darrell feat. Kody Red, Satellite the Kiid, & Joe Ayinde - "Rappity Rap (Cypher)" Independent artist Mitch Darrell releases his final single off the upcoming album Darrell scheduled for release on August 28. Darrell brings back the classic vibe in hip-hop in the form of a cypher which oddly disappeared of sorts in the trap-driven era of the genre. The features on the cypher are a few of the heavyweights of the unsigned in the genre showcasing status doesn't mean anything, just God-given skill in the form of lyricism. Each of the four offers some of their top-tier contributions to hip-hop signifying why you'll hear their names for years to follow.
Heights EP by Wes Harris
Indie artist Wes Harris releases an EP including his last three singles released and a few added surprises with the new EP. Within the last month, "Flight Plan,", "Helium" and "Turbulence" were released consecutively. The singles were welcomed additions to Harris' discography as fans admit they contained some of his best work to date. His lyricism has refined, the production and mixing are much improved, and everything together forms into a well-rounded representation of the talents God instilled within. The contained concept within the release focuses on the heights God raises his children to through their personal faith and devotion. The one new track "Free Falling" feat. Ki'Ki Steward hails as one of the strongest. The track depicts how confident we can remain in Christ within life free of boundaries and limitations based on the love and protection of Jesus. "Another favorite choice of mine would be "Flight Plan" feat. JUSTCALLMEDT. The emcees exchange lyrical offerings of the plan God sets into place once we focus and settle on our faith leading the way.
