The newest Centricity Music artist Caitie Hurst burst onto the CCM scene with her standout debut hit single, "How Could I Be Silent." She followed that up with her debut EP release How Could I Be Silent, which also features the songs, "Walkin' on the Water" and "Nothing to Hide," which led to that album being ranked in my Top 10 Albums of 2018.

I've been married for 25 years and we have three young daughters, and her entire album really ministers to me and my family. Caitie Hurst has the gift of encouragement, and every single song lifts me up. She has an infectious and upbeat musical style, layering her strong and distinguished vocals over the top of one hooky melody after another. Caitie has really emerged as one of the top new female vocalists in Christian music, and she is a great role model for girls. She has delivered the ideal album to minister to anyone struggling with fear and self-doubt. Every song is a great showcase of Caitie's excellent singing voice, and you can practically hear her smile as she delivers one infectious song after another. The layered and well-produced musical arrangements on this album perfectly accentuate Caitie's powerful and passionate songs.

With comparisons to contemporaries ranging from Taylor Swift to Britt Nicole, Hurst's exhibits the passion and confidence of a seasoned artist. Hurst's songwriting is real, positive and vulnerable, and her upbeat songs are a great way to celebrate our freedom in Christ. Her newest single is "All the Things."  Her songs are very upbeat and catchy and Caitie is a great role model for girls. Caitie's songs have connected with my daughters and her biblically inspired lyrics represent how true happiness and her identity comes from her relationship with God. I had the chance to speak with Caitie about her upbeat song "All the Things."

Please tell me the personal story behind this song.

This is my favorite song I've released to date. I love that the song is fun and makes you want to have a party. For me, the song has a deep meaning. I started writing this song after I was on a Christmas tour with for KING & COUNTRY. It was awesome and so much fun, but I was so terrified. I grew up singing in church and leading worship, and yet I was in front of thousands of people every night. I was inspired to write this song based on experiences in my life where God has called me into something and I was afraid. I am so excited for everyone to finally hear "All The Things," because it's a fun way of reminding myself that no matter what God is calling me to, no matter how scary it is or how unequipped I feel for the task, all I have to do is be obedient, and He is the one who will do through me what I cannot do in and of myself. It's a reminder for me to trust that He has a purpose, and I don't need to work in my own strength but trust in His!

Like the story of Moses, when God called him, Moses made all the excuses as to why he wasn't the one God should use to lead His people out of Egypt. But God wanted to use Moses specifically to work powerfully through him! In the same way, many times when God has asked me to do something I've been the one making every excuse in the world as to why I'm not the girl for the job. "God You should use someone else!" "I'm not good enough," whatever it may be.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Exodus 14:13-14 (NLV): "But Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid! Be strong, and see how the Lord will save you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you. All you have to do is keep still."

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV): "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

Psalm 55:22 (NIV): "Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken."

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV): "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart."

Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 1:6 (NIV): "Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV): "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Ephesians 3:14-21 (NKJV): "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height-- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

1 John 4:18 (NKJV): "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love."

What is the takeaway message?

I had anxiety and started questioning whether God could use me in this way. I was making all these excuses about why I wasn't the girl for the job. I was afraid, but afterwards, I realized that when God calls you into something, He's not going to let you fail and be on your own. He equips us and gives us the strength and wisdom to carry it out. Name any mistake and I've probably made it. God has taught me that it is really awesome to do something scary and out of your comfort zone because it causes you to rely on Him all the more.

God is the one who calls, equips, and gives you everything you need, and when we're obedient, we're able to see Him do things immeasurably more than anything we could have ever asked or imagined! I hope this song encourages each listener to not be afraid to step up to whatever it is God may be calling you to do right now and know that He wants to use you, right where you're at. He's the one who does all the things we thought couldn't be done through us if we trust Him!

Lyrics:
All up in my head, fear's got a hold of me
Pretend I'm not scared of who You're calling me to be
Truth is I don't think that I am good enough
Must have someone else that You were thinking of
Who am I to be a part of Your plan?
Then You told me who I am

When You call my name You don't want someone else
You don't make mistakes, I can be myself
Every step of faith, take 'em one by one
As You're doing all the things I thought could not be done

I don't gotta be run by insecurity
Everything I need
You already gave to me
I don't ever have to do this on my own
With You with me I can never be alone
I just need a little faith to take a step
Then I'll watch You do the rest

When You call my name You don't want someone else
You don't make mistakes, I can be myself
Every step of faith, take 'em one by one
As You're doing all the things I thought could not be done
So I won't back down when I want to run
If You're with me in the battle, it's already won
Every step of faith, take 'em one by one
As You're doing all the things I thought could not be done
Everything I need
You already gave to me
You're everything I need, everything I need

When You call my name You don't want
someone else (You don't want someone else)
You don't make mistakes, I can be myself (I can be myself)
Every step of faith, take 'em one by one
As You're doing all the things I thought
could not be done (I thought could not be done)
So I won't back down when I want to run
If You're with me in the battle, it's already won
Every step of faith, take 'em one by one
As You're doing all the things I thought could not be done

Yeah, yeah
Every step of faith, take 'em one by one
As You're doing all the things I thought could not be done

Closing Thoughts

I can perfectly relate to every word Caitie enthusiastically sings in this song. The depth of the struggles that many of us have to overcome, feeling that nobody cares or knows what we are going through, is something that we can all relate to. For me, one consistent prayer is for hope. I love how this song has that emotional edge and points me to Christ for peace and hope. Know that Jesus loves you and has something better planned for you if you trust Him as your Savior. The message of "All the Things" will challenge you to think about your own doubts. It serves as a reminder that Jesus calls on all of us to rely on Him and the power of His resurrection. It also gives you some added reassurance: He has overcome death and fear.

You can know that He's real, He's near, and He's just a breath away. This song represents the victory that you have over your battles before you even know the earthly outcome, simply by trusting that God is going before you and He wins. You can face your daily battles with more courage and strength, resting in His promise (Romans 8:28, "God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.")

The enemy uses fear, anxiety, and worry to prevent us from sharing our faith, from fixing our eyes on Jesus and from the greater things that God has in store for us as His followers. This song is all about having a strong faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Sometimes we have a tendency to think we can try to know everything. God tells us in the Bible that with faith, we can do anything in Christ. I'm completely convicted by the strong lyrics and find immense comfort in this song. We can't know everything, and we are not in control, but trusting God gives us the assurance that we don't have to be afraid. God will be there to pick us up when we fall. The challenge for me when I listen to this song is to pick an area of my life that I've been trying to control and instead step out and put all of my hope and trust in God.

Ask God to open your eyes today. Ask Him to reveal His footsteps so you can follow them. Jesus commands us to trust God's Word completely, no matter our circumstances or personal distractions or concerns. God doesn't promise to spare us from pain, but we need to trust Him. You have to trust Him and wait on Him, wait for Him to orchestrate the plans for your life. We have nothing to bring to God, and maybe we expect something in return instead of recognizing that nothing compares to the greatness of knowing Jesus. Faith is when we are empty of ourselves and filled with Him and His Holy Spirit. I can't get enough of the worshipful chorus, "If You're with me in the battle, it's already won, Every step of faith, take 'em one by one, As You're doing all the things I thought could not be done." Amen to that.
