To we the fans benefit, worship teams at megachurches everywhere are coming out with new EPs and albums. So, it's imperative that whoever releases new music can offer something different and original. And, if the church is located in Nashville, the Christian music capital, then any worship team has their work cut out for them.
Nashville Life Music, the worship team at Nashville Life Church, has been able to do that. Many of their songs and performances feature a funky vibe, something you usually wouldn't hear on Sunday morning. The worship team still keeps the heart of their music focused on Jesus, which is of absolute importance. But, the Lord has given listeners a different type of worship music, which is fresh on the ears.
Nashville Life answered a few questions to tell us about the new EP. And, what's happening with them in 2019.
Last year, you shared Nashville Life Music's origin story with NewReleaseToday. What's happened since then?
Has it been a year already? Wow. God has done so many great things in our church family. We have grown as a church in every way. And the music reflects the excitement and expansion we are experiencing. Outside of our congregation, our songs have reached many countries and churches around the world. We've seen our song, "All Power," reach over one million streams on Spotify. And our song, "My God," reached #5 on Billboard's Gospel Chart and surpassed one million views on YouTube. Most recently, we were honored to partner with Integrity Music to release more music in the coming months. Praise God.
You just released the "Taylor House Sessions EP" just one year after you released, Shine On Us, Part 1? How were you able to drop this new album so fast? Talk about the process.
Since we have church services every week, we are writing new songs regularly. And like I mentioned, we are now an artist in the Integrity Music family, a Christian label who specializes in creating incredible projects. Once that partnership began, we decided to release more music quickly that would introduce people to who we are and what we believe. Those desires turned into the Taylor House Sessions EP. And we're thrilled with how it turned out.
How would you describe the music on the new EP? What singles have you released so far?
This EP includes mostly fun, energetic music we sing in our church. As a worship leader, I'm always looking for more upbeat songs that invite the congregation to be thankful and active in the worship service. We thought: "Maybe other churches and families need these type of songs, too."
"Glory," "No Greater," and "Sing A Song" are brand new songs we are excited to add to the catalog of praise music, along with previously released songs "My God," "Firm Foundation," "Heaven On Earth." We also recorded and filmed the EP live in the studio with the singers and musicians together, because we wanted people to experience what happens on Sunday.
When will we see Shine On Us, Part 2? Any thoughts about doing a studio album?
I'm asking myself the same question about Part 2. I do know that we're going into the studio next month to work on a studio album of new songs. We are thrilled to explore new territory while still being true to who we are.
What are some of your favorite artists and music that you listen to and why? Who would you like to work with in the future?
One of the amazing things about partnering with Integrity is that we are many steps closer to working with many of our musical heroes. There are so many to name. But, specifically, we're big fans of Leeland Mooring. And, we hope to make some music with him very soon.
How do you approach your songwriting?
Our songwriting process is very fluid and organic. We only have one or two official songwriting camps each year. Otherwise, most of our songs are started or written "on the go" between members of the team. We often send ideas over the phone and finish them as needed for our services. Now that we're doing more albums in the future, we're starting to carve out time to write songs.
How can we be praying for you?
As a church, we're prayerfully expanding into other areas Nashville. And we want our music to reflect the same mission of our church: to follow Jesus and build leaders (that is, disciples). Pray for focus and clarity as we step into the plans God is revealing to us day by day. We're headed to the studio soon, so look out.
