One of the great new trends in worship music is to invite worshippers to dance before the Lord with a contemporary, exciting musical feel featuring electronic dance music (EDM), and upbeat musical arrangements. Recent songs we've sung and danced to include “Just Jesus” and “Wake” by Hillsong Young & Free, “Shine Like the Stars” by Misty Edwards and “Endless Praise” by Planetshakers. In that same vein of upbeat songs to really get you excited about your faith is a new collection of songs by Planetshakers.

Their newest album Heaven on Earth includes more high energy and Spirit-filled worship songs, including "Heaven on Earth," "Overcome It All," "Electric Atmosphere," "Through It All (Remix)" and "Nothing Is Impossible (EDM Remix)." Their brand of worship songs is great for fans of Hillsong Young & Free, Passion and Jesus Culture. I had the opportunity to interview singer-songwriter Joth Hunt about their upbeat and energetic worship song "Heaven on Earth."

Please tell me the personal story behind the song.

This year, Pastor Russell Evans, our Senior Pastor at the Planetshakers church in Melbourne, Australia, came up with a theme that he felt from God for our Kingdom conference. As songwriters, we always want to write songs based on the theme. And singing about what God is doing is quite powerful. We were looking through the Scriptures for themes involving God’s Kingdom, and I focused on “The Lord’s Prayer,” where Jesus said, "Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." As soon as I read it, the title for this song and our new album became "Heaven on Earth." That is the running theme for these songs.

Many people say you can’t experience Heaven on earth, you need to wait until you get to Heaven. If that’s the case, then why did Jesus teach us to pray those words? As I was writing these lyrics, I wanted to express that wherever we experience God’s presence, that’s heaven on earth. The first line of the song says, "You are here, as we’re lifting up Your name.” The Bible says, "God inhabits the praises of His people." When we praise Him, He’s there with us.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Luke 11:1-4 (NKJV): "Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Matthew 18:20 (NIV): "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."

Mark 16:15-16 (NKJV): "And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.'"

Acts 1:7-8 (MSG): “He told them, “You don’t get to know the time. Timing is the Father's business. What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world."

Acts 1:8 (NIV): "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Philippians 2:14-16 (NIV): "Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the Word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing."

What is the takeaway message?

The Bible tells us, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” We can expect to experience heaven on earth. In Heaven, theres joy and peace and life and health. All good things, and everything that we need. On earth, we face sickness, defeat, and all these crazy things that the enemy is throwing at us. When we praise God, we can experience good things and pull heaven to earth with our praises. It's been a powerful song at our church.

We're seeing amazing things happen in this song, as people declare their praises. The chorus says, "Where You are is where I wanna be." There are times in our lives when we get caught up in the craziness of our situations. If we take a step back and shift our focus to Him, we can change our perspectives from thinking about ourselves and our problems and focus on God and lift up His name. He'll be with us in those moments. He is bigger than anything we're facing. We like to use the Word of God in our lyrics. We understand there is so much power in His Word. The Word of the Lord doesn’t return void, and is so powerful. This is a statement of faith. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Lyrics:
You are here
As we're lifting up Your name
Lifting up Your name
You are here
As we're giving You the praise
Giving You the praise

The Kingdom of God is released in this atmosphere
Where freedom and breakthrough, and victory are right here

'Cause where You are is where I wanna be
In Your presence
There's no place that I would rather be
'Cause with You, Jesus
It's heaven on earth
It's heaven on earth
It's heaven on earth
It's heaven on earth

You are here
As we all agree
Your power is released
You are here
As Your Spirit falls
There are miracles

The Kingdom of God is released in this atmosphere
Where freedom and breakthrough, and victory are right here

Where You are is where I wanna be
In Your presence
There's no place that I would rather be
'Cause with You, Jesus
It's heaven on earth
It's heaven on earth
It's heaven on earth
It's heaven on earth

For wherever You are is freedom
I can feel it breaking out
The walls are coming down
Right now, Jesus
Oh, this is heaven on earth
Wherever You are is freedom
I can feel it breaking out
The walls are coming down
Right now, Jesus
Oh, this is heaven on earth

This is heaven on earth
This is heaven on earth
This is heaven on earth
Oh, this is heaven on earth

'Cause where You are is where I wanna be
In Your presence
There's no place that I would rather be
'Cause with You, Jesus
It's heaven on earth
It's heaven on earth

'Cause wherever You are is freedom
I can feel it breaking out
The walls are coming down
Right now, Jesus
For this is heaven on earth
Wherever You are is freedom
I can feel it breaking out
The walls are coming down

Closing Thoughts

I love how this album's music matches the excitement being expressed lyrically. Our God is worthy of all of our praise. We'll be singing and dancing before Him for eternity one day. This song gives believers a foretaste of that celebration. One of my favorite things about "singing a new song to the Lord" is that the idea of worship in Heaven is an exciting picture for me, and that's the glimpse that we gain from this collection of high-energy songs.

It delighted God that David, a man after God's own heart, danced unashamed before the Lord. "Heaven on Earth" is an example of being obedient to that calling to make God the object of all of our worship. I love how the Lord is bringing up worship leaders who are unashamed of the Gospel and are about proclaiming the Truth of God's Word.

Heaven on earth is something that God wants us to pray for, and biblically we're commanded to spread the Good News of the Gospel in the Great Commission. In Mark 16:15, Jesus commands: "Preach the Gospel to every creature." There are no conditions or exceptions in that command. It's more of a lifestyle that Jesus calls us to live as Christians. This worship anthem is just the type of infusion that the church needs with its honesty and bold lyrics, which provide a great opportunity to reach the lost for the Kingdom of God, with the declaration, "The Kingdom of God is released in this atmosphere/Where freedom and breakthrough, and victory are right here."

I love the image of "Heaven on Earth." While we're here, Jesus taught us to pray for His kingdom to come and His will to be done to witness about Him to our world. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Once the Light of the Holy Spirit is in you, you can show that light to others as you live your daily life, including outside of a worship context.

Worship means, “worth-ship,” or what you are putting your worth in. And, if you're doing everything for God’s glory, then you'll be demonstrating the love of Jesus in every encounter that you have with people. Sometimes you need to be ignited and ask for a fresh filling of His Spirit. If you're having trouble living a biblical lifestyle, this song is a great way to connect with God daily in a fun and exciting way. That's cause for a dance party.

"Heaven on Earth," both song and album, is a wonderful way to celebrate. God tells us repeatedly in His Word to sing and dance before Him. This song is a great answer to that calling. Join in with the angels and saints, and dance and sing before Him, “'Cause wherever You are is freedom/I can feel it breaking out/The walls are coming down/Right now, Jesus/For this is heaven on earth.” Amen to that.
