Reason & Rhyme is the debut release by Abigail Sloane. Her album’s songs are based on her personal experiences and reliance on God to process her life situations. Her songs are about overcoming and empowerment through our faith in Christ.

If you're a fan of singer/songwriters Jessa Anderson, Brooke Robertson and Carmen Justice, you’ll enjoy this album. "Abigail looks to take her music to the world, showing the broken and the hurting that there are better days ahead. As someone who has battled depression and fought dark days, she wishes to equip those who hear her music with the same weapons that helped her to fight passed the deepest nights. Her faith is what keeps her grounded and humble and she finds deep connections with those who are in her life. She seeks to make connections with more and more people that might need to hear words of encouragement." I had the chance to speak with Abigail about her single, "Enough."

Please tell me the personal story behind the song.

This song was written by a team of fabulous writers and they were gracious enough to let me record the song. When I first heard it, there was something about the message that spoke to me. I need this message, and I wanted people to know that the Lord is enough for whatever they are facing. It was perfectly timed to come into my world. I was struggling with a lot of unanswered questions, and a lot of wondering about what was going to happen in my life. I knew that I didn’t understand what was happening, but that the Lord is in control of it all and that He's enough for whatever I'm struggling with. This song makes me realize that no matter what happensgood or badChrist is enough yesterday, today, and thank goodness, forevermore. I need to hold onto that truth.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Psalm 19:14 (NKJV): "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer."

Psalm 139:14 (NIV): "I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

Psalm 139:17-18 (NKJV): "How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You."

Ecclesiastes 1:9 (VOICE): “What has been, that will be; what has been done, that will be done. Nothing is new under the sun; the future only repeats the past."

Ecclesiastes 2:11 (NLT): "But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless--like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere."

Romans 12:2 (VOICE): "Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete."

What is the takeaway message?

The entire chorus speaks to me. I love when the song says, "If I have Your love, and nothing more, You’re enough for me." Especially as Christians, we need to realize that truth every single day. If we were left with nothing but God’s love, would that be enough for us. We all face this question at some point in our walks with the Lord.

I’ve had responses from both Christians and non-Christians about the song. It’s been ministering to people from all different backgrounds. For me, "Enough" is a personal worship anthem. Being able to connect with the tune myself has helped other people connect with the song. It has opened the door for me to speak to someone else about their relationship with Jesus.

What has painted my entire life is the story of Esther with the message that maybe I’m here "for such a time as this." The Lord has shown me how He has brought me through every high and low and it has been so evident that His fingerprints have been all over my story. Jesus is just waiting for us to embrace what He has for us.

I see some people that seem to have it all
They build their paper castles priceless pictures on the wall
Yeah , they seem to have it all
Some people see the world travel the seven seas,
Search for that Holy Grail but it leaves them incomplete
Feeling incomplete
All these things that never satisfy

You are enough for me every breath that I breathe
If I have Your love and nothing more, You’re enough for me
What more could I ever need?
Here’s what this heart of mine believes,
If I have Your love and nothing more, You’re enough for me

I guess it took a while, I finally figured out,
What I was looking for and all those temporary things
Can’t fill the emptiness within
There’s a peace that only You can give

You are enough for me every breath that I breathe
If I have Your love and nothing more, You’re enough for me
What more could I ever need?
Here’s what this heart of mine believes,
If I have Your love and nothing more, You’re enough for me

There will be moments when I’m losing everything,
But I have a treasure that will never fade away
And this world, can, never take

You are enough for me every breath that I breathe
If I have Your love and nothing more, You’re enough for me
What more could I ever need?
Here’s what this heart of mine believes,
If I have Your love and nothing more, You’re enough for me

Closing Thoughts

I try to tell my wife and my three daughters how much I love them every day, and that they are all truly beautiful because of their identity in Christ. For me, having three young daughters, it is so important for them to hear this message. They need to look so far beyond what the world says and really find their true identities in the Lord. Reason & Rhyme is about finding our identity in Christ and not allowing doubts and fears to control our lives. But, instead of knowing we are sons and daughters of God, and He created each one of us in His image. Rather than wallow in self-pity and misery, we need to live each day knowing that despite circumstances, God has a plan for "those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).

"Enough" represents a similar viewpoint to Solomon in writing Ecclesiastes as he looks back on everything God had blessed him with, and although he had riches and what this world defines as success, he recognized that it was all meaningless. He had it all: wealth, prosperity, fame, power and wisdom, but he recognized that material accomplishments meant nothing, without God. A lot of the world today is striving for those same "meaningless" things which Solomon compared to "chasing the wind" nine times in Ecclesiastes. This song is a beautiful prayer to our King and Savior. There is great comfort in knowing Jesus and being known by Him in every detail of our lives.

The message throughout the album is to know that we don't have to be perfect; God made us the way we are for a reason. We're beautiful; we have something to say and we're worth it. Joy isn't just a happy emotion. It is also a deep peace and understanding, knowing that we are loved, without a shadow of a doubt. "Enough" is a daily prayer asking God to come and change our hearts and change our lives in such a way that our behavior and the way we live flows from God living inside of us as believers. Only Jesus can give us our true identity. What a powerful expression of what it means to accept that God never leaves or forsakes us as His followers. He is all we need. Join in with Abigail as she prays: "Here’s what this heart of mine believes/If I have Your love and nothing more, You’re enough for me." Amen to that.
