Word Records’ rock newcomers
Remedy Drive, nominated for Best New Artist at the 2009 GMA Dove Awards, recently celebrated multiple weeks at the top of the Christian rock song chart with their breakout single, "All Along." The song is the second hit single from their impressive debut album,
Daylight Is Coming.
Like most brothers, Remedy Drive members David, Paul, Philip and Daniel Zach had their fair share of squabbles growing up. With no television at home to distract them, the boys had few other outlets for their energies. Fortunately, they found common ground in their love of music. In fact, the first time they heard a guitar solo, they say it "made them feel alive." For four brothers who listened to a steady diet of Keith Green, it was a revelation that ended up having a profound effect on their future. Lyrically speaking, the guys find inspiration in the everyday and always have a pocket-sized notebook nearby to jot down new observations.
"I want our listeners to be involved with everything we do in Remedy Drive," stats Daniel. "Our music should reflect real life."
David adds, "We’re all getting sold this lie that the stuff we own can make you happy and validate who you are. We want to sing about something permanent, something real that'll never burn out or fade away. Ultimately, we want to give our listeners hope."
I had the great opportunity to speak with David Zach about his song "All Along." You can listen to the entire interview

Here's what David shared with me about the song:
Please tell me about the background in writing the song "All Along."
I thought a lot about this idea that things don’t feel like I thought they would feel. Nothing meets the expectations I have for success. Even though I believe being a musician is a gift from God, the success of being in a band isn't everything I hoped for. There is still something bigger.
Is there a personal story about the message of that song?
You and I know that the American dream of making money won't fill us up. There is something more real than that which will sustain the human heart. We all think having a picket fence and a big SUV is what will fill us up, but we all need more.
Do you have a life verse or any verses you used in writing the song?
1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.
What's the takeaway message for listeners regarding the song?
Even the best things in life, as great as they are, can't compare to the King of the Universe. When I had my baby boy and baby girl, I felt like I was born again. Although I have a relationship with my Savior, there is still something to press on towards. There is still something bigger.
Here are the lyrics for "All Along"
It's not everything it seems - the world and its dreams
Slipping like water through my hands tonight
All the things I thought would fill me up inside
Left me empty here - and now I know why
(Chorus)
All along I was looking for something else
You're something else
All along I was looking for something more
You're so much more
I finally found what I could never see before
You've always been the one that I was looking for
All of my castles in the sand - washed away again
And I'm left back where I began tonight
The only thing that can ever fill me up
Has been right in front of me all the time
Chorus
(Bridge)
I won't miss you - I won't miss you this time
I say I want you - yeah I want you in my life
Earthly things aren’t going to fill us up. The rock of Christ Jesus is what gives us ultimate hope and satisfaction. There’s something more than this world which is not really paradise. Many times we all pursue our careers and "build our castles in the sand." Rather than striving for money, success, the world and its dreams, we have what we are looking for, right in front of us. Just look to the cross and know that Jesus is with us "all along."
