"You gave your body to the lonely
They took your clothes
You gave up a wife and a family
You gave your ghosts
To be alone
With me
To be alone
With me
To be alone with me, you went upon a tree
To be alone with me you went upon a tree
I’ve never known a man who loved me..."

It is a quiet night tonight. The rain crashed against my window this afternoon and made and awful racket for a while, but now, all is peaceful. It’s good to be home. Two of my friends and I went away on a road trip this past weekend to Chicago. Sometimes it's good to get away for a spell, but it's always wonderful to come back home.
I heard a song today that shook me up. It was by an artist named Sufjan Stevens. The lyrics talk about how Jesus came down to Earth to die for the lonely and brokenhearted. He wrote,
"To be alone with me, You went upon a tree, I’ve never known a man who loved me".
The thing that caused me to stop and think about this song was the idea that we are SO valuable to God. God sent His only Son to take our place on the cross. He gave up the thing that was most important to Him so that we could be free and live in joy.
The
book of Philippians explained the story best when Paul wrote:
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross!"
Everyone in our lives has let us down, or will soon enough. Even the best relationships, friendship, and family situations fall short of satisfaction and contentment. But Jesus would much rather give up His life just to be with us. What an idea!
It's like we are at a crossroads each day. We can either run towards Jesus or walk our own path. The one to contentment and hope is the road with Christ, but if we forge our own path for our lives outside of God, then we are doomed to disappointment and discontent.
God is silently and sometimes loudly fighting for us. Fighting for a chance at an open and honest relationship with us. Have you thought about your RELATIONSHIP with Jesus much or just your earthly relationships? Anyway, he just liked the luxury

God is desperate for us to fall in love with Him. He fights our battles for us, defends us, rescues us, and stumbles alongside us through life.
He's the only man who has really ever loved you with complete love and with an unchanging and unconditional love.
Writer and musician, Andy Gullahorn, wrote in his song, "Never Let Me Down",
"You might let me cry, You might let me sing, You might let me feel
A fraction of Your suffering, But You won’t let me down, You never let me down.
God is not only dependable but the only one brave enough to give up the most important things to Him, that we may have the opportunity to have a lasting relationship with Him.
This is not a one-time thing with God. He doesn’t just want a few hours of your week with Him, to fellowship and spend time with Him. He wants your heart, your very essence. He wants your time, talent, affection, and undivided attention. Those

In a letter "To Mrs. L.," C.S. Lewis wrote,
"Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done..." We are to imitate Christ and live for Him each day. Jesus gave up everything to spend time with us.
Matthew 22: 37-38:
"Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.'"
So the question remains tonight...
Are you living a religion or a relationship? Have you given in to Jesus and allowed Him to fight for your heart? Do you realize just how much He loves you and that He will be the One in your life that will never leave you hanging?
God is constant and consistent. He is solid and will not allow us to be taken advantage of as long as we are giving Him control of our lives, desires, and direction.
Jesus is speaking into your heart even tonight...wanting to be noticed and adored.
Do you have time for Jesus?
He died just to be alone with you!
