Known for their hit ballads,
DecembeRadio has weaved easygoing, radio-friendly melodies onto both of their albums combined with laidback medium-tempo grooves reminiscent of their classic rock influences. "Look For Me" is one of those great ballads from
Satisfied. The band, which received "Rock Album of the Year" honors for its self-titled debut in 2007, continued its run of successes with this year's win for their acclaimed sophomore release
Satisfied.
The music is a canvas for messages that range from God's faithfulness through our questions and hard times to the band's desires to become better men through the daily struggles they encounter. Other messages include the power of living out love in our everyday lives as well as the celebration of realizing that only God can satisfy who we are as human beings.
"Look for Me" is a gorgeous ballad that reminds us God is always there for us no matter what we’re going through. I had the great opportunity to meet the band at their concert with Newsboys last month and I talked with lead singer Josh Reedy about the song. Here are his comments.
"Sometimes life can get so crazy, and so busy, that we feel like there's a raging storm all around us and there's no way out. At that point it's easy to start trying to replace the void where Jesus should be with anything we can think of to ease the pain. It has become the pitfall of many peoples walk with Christ. If we would be still and look for the light that's always been there to lead us to safety, we would all save ourselves from many of the storms of life. In a nutshell, that is what our song "Look For Me" is all about. There's a peace that all the sudden comes over you when you realize that God's been there the whole time and you surrender your will to His. The following verses from Deuteronomy talks about just that."
Dt. 4:29-31
29. But if from there you seek the Lord you God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. 31. For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath.
Here are the lyrics for "Look For Me"
There's a shadow heavy as a blanket
Keeping all the light from shining through
There's a doubt deeper than the hope
That this world could ever offer you
There’s a war raging like a storm
Ripping through the core of what you know is true
There's a peace that passes understanding
Let it be the hand that you hold onto
I'll be the one that never lets you go
I want you to know that
Chorus
If you ever wonder where you are
If you ever think you've gone too far
I'll be that light out in the dark just look for Me
I'll be standing here with open arms
So close your eyes and trust your heart
And then you'll see, that I am all you need
Just look for Me
There's a grace dying to erase
All that you've said and done
There's a love always big enough
Doesn't really matter what you're running from
Let your faith take you to a place
Where life has just begun
Let your soul step into the flow
Brother, don't you know you can let it go
I want you to know that
Chorus
When you feel alone just look for Me, look for Me
I'll be your eyes when you cannot see
So lay down your pride, step inside
And let forgiveness cover you
You know it’s true, I'll never leave you
Chorus
The message of this song is a great reminder of how much God loves us. Whenever I’m feeling down, lonely and full of self-doubt, this song brings me great comfort. I love songs that are sung in the perspective of God singing over us and this song has been a steady devotional song for me along with “"or Your Glory," "Satisfy Me" and "Believer," all from the album
Satisfied. I think the bridge of the song sums up the application perfectly.
So lay down your pride, step inside
And let forgiveness cover you
You know it’s true, I'll never leave you
We all need to lay down our pride and look for God. He’s all you need!
