Sommer Floyd told us all about her background, testimony, and journey into making country-tinged Christian music, and now, she gives us a song-by-song description of what prompted the writing of each of the 13 songs on her latest album, Ray of Light

Check out her thoughts and then go pick up the album on her website or on iTunes.

1. "Ray of Light"
I wrote this song after gazing up at the sun and watching the way its rays beamed down, warming the earth. The sun lights up every place that it touches and as believers, we were meant to do the same. Christ has done so much in my life and I pray that His goodness can shine through me.

2. "Stronger"
I was inspired to write this song by a dear friend of mine battling leukemia. Through her circumstance, I was touched by the way she trusted in God for His plan and His timing no matter how difficult things were. Although we may seem like we're on a down slope at times, we know that in our weakness God's strength is made perfect in us. He never said it would be easy but He did promise we would never be alone.

3. "How You Love Me"
I started writing this song during a time in my life when I needed to know more than ever that there's nothing I could ever do or say that could change the way that God loves me. I'm reminded by this song of how beautiful, faithful, and accepting God's love is.

4. "Drop and Run"
I wrote this song for all of the people out there who are still far away from God and breaking. It's so important for people to hear that God loves them for who they are no matter where they've been or where they're standing. Knowing that God stands with open arms and loves us more than we'll ever know is a message that needs to be told.

5. "Children of God"
I was inspired to write this song because of my daughter and the scripture James 1:17 "Every good and perfect gift is from above..." It's amazing to me to think that the same God who created the universe and makes the stars shine at night, is the same God who calls us His children. A child of God, I am.

6. "I Need You"
I wrote this song more so as a cry out and realization that I need God more and more every day of my life. It's so important to not lose sight of who we are in Christ and to know that we can reach heights we've never dreamed of with His guidance and truth.

7. "Working On Me"
This song was written for someone close to me who had a problem with alcohol. So often times we try to mask and cover up our problems with a smile, even though we know we are not okay. Letting go of the past and looking to God is the greatest thing we could do and that's what I want people to hear in this song.

8. "Let It Rain"
This song to me is an example of how God answers when we call to Him, as undeserving as we are. You always hear the saying "when it rains it pours", and it's relatable to this song to me because God has no limitations when pouring out His blessings and His mercy upon us. Praising God is so powerful and this song really brings that out.

9. "Little Boy"
I wrote this song to show people that we are not defined by other people's choices or mistakes and although our past or present may not look bright, God can make great things happen in our lives. My message that I always tell people with this song is that God uses little people to do big things.

10. "Lighthouse"
This song is so neat to me because the visual picture of being in the middle of a hurricane is so easy to see and relate to when it comes to life's own battles. No matter how great of a storm I may face or how long it may last, there is an everlasting Light I can look to that holds me in the palm of His hands.

11. "Great Is Thy Faithfulness"
What a great hymn! This one's pretty self-explanatory, as it's one of the timeless songs of the faith!

12. "He Is Good"
I wrote this song in a fun state of mind, incorporating things in life that people communicate frequently like the term "laughing out loud."  God is good all the time and I believe that we need to speak about the good more often. Fairytales only exist in movies, but we have a perfect God who is real and fulfilling every day.

13. "Live Like Jesus"
I wrote this song to tell a story of how Christ lived when He walked the earth, and to help encourage people to be more and more like Him every day.
