Jesus came to Earth as a baby, born of a woman, to change the world. At no time of the year are we more reminded of just how much He has changed the world than at Christmas.
Many artists include the song "O Holy Night" on their Christmas albums and it is an amazing song of faith. The first verse floors me: Long Lay the World, In Sin and Error Pining, Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. This is one of the most worshipful songs ever written and worthy of our Savior. The very reverent recording by Kerrie Roberts found on the Essential Christmas Collection album will have you hanging on every word that Kerrie tenderly sings. Her vocals will soothe your soul and the vertical lyrics will all direct your attention on our King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus.
A Bible passage that captures the essence of this song is Philippians 2:5-11 (VOICE): "In other words, adopt the mind-set of Jesus the Anointed. Live with His attitude in your hearts. Remember: Though He was in the form of God, He chose not to cling to equality with God, But He poured Himself out to fill a vessel brand new; a servant in form and a man indeed. The very likeness of humanity, He humbled Himself, obedient to death--a merciless death on the cross! So God raised Him up to the highest place and gave Him the name above all. So when His name is called, every knee will bow, in heaven, on earth, and below. And every tongue will confess "Jesus, the Anointed One, is Lord," to the glory of God our Father!"
Lyrics: O Holy Night The Stars Are Brightly Shining
It Is The Night Of The Dear Savior's Birth
Long Lay The World In Sin And Error Pining
Till He Appeared And Our Soul Felt Its Worth
A Thrill Of Hope The Weary World Rejoices
For Yonder Breaks A New And Glorious Morn
Fall On Your Knees Oh Hear The Angel Voices
O Night Divine O Night When Christ Was Born
O Night O Holy Night O Night Divine
O Night O Holy Night O Night Divine
Chains He Shall Break For The Slave Is Our Brother
And In His Name All Oppression Shall Cease
Sweet Hymns Of Joy In Grateful Chorus Raise We
Let All Within Us Praise His Holy Name
Christ Is The Lord Then Ever
Ever Praise We

O Night, O Night Divine

O Night O Night Divine
Jesus came to Earth as a baby, born of a woman, to change the world. At no time of the year are we more reminded of just how much He has changed then world than at Christmas. Paul, unlike the Gospel writers, never tells us of the story of Christmas. But in Philippians 2:5-11, he tells us of the glory of Christmas. He tells us why the night on which Jesus was born was such a Holy Night. The entire Old Testament, from Genesis to Malachi, points to the birth and the name of Jesus Christ.
Matthew and Luke looked at the birth of Jesus historically and Paul looks at it theologically. In Matthew and Luke you see the historical event, and Paul gives the theological truth. As you sing this song this Christmas season, bow your hearts in reverence, and remember these words: "Long Lay the World, In Sin and Error Pining, Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth." Once you allow that truth to sink in, then lift your voice to our King of Kings and Lord of Lords: "Fall on Your Knees, Oh Hear The Angel Voices O Night Divine O Night When Christ Was Born." Amen and Merry Christmas!
