BEHIND THE SONG WITH KEVIN DAVIS
#575 - "Love Restores" by Shine Bright Baby
Shine Bright Baby's Emily Irene shares about the power of God's love to restore, even in the midst of our darkest situations.

BEC Recordings band Shine Bright Baby released their debut album Dreamers last year.  I had the opportunity to meet the band in 2011 at Creation Festival Northeast, and they participated in handing out $5 bills to everyone we saw at the Festival wearing temporary tattoos showing the NewReleaseTuesday.com logo. We also spent time discussing their formation as a band and the story of their song "Hourglasses."

Watching their set on the Fringe Stage this year, I saw an energetic band with a lot of potential, reminding me of a blend of other faith-based rock bands that have female lead singers. But since then, the band has developed even more, adding more pop and electronic elements to their sound. If you like upbeat, high-energy pop/rock, then don't hesitate to pick up Dreamers, which includes the super catchy singles, "Beautiful Love," "Made to Glow" and the stirring ballad "Love Restores." I had the chance to interview Shine Bright Baby's lead singer Emily Irene in person at Creation about "Love Restores."

Please tell me the message behind the song.

At the time we were writing this song, there were several crazy things happening in our lives. Our bass player who was only 17 years old had his father pass away. At my church, a little girl passed away from cancer. We are from a very small town, and there was a school shooting near the area where we are from.

We've been working on writing songs for this album since 2011. We were together and thinking about all of those things happening in our lives, and wrote this song based on those experiences. We knew this was exactly the song we needed to write. We made a music video for the song, and it captures the storyline of a school shooting and bullying in schools. We wanted to address all types of brokenness. In the song we talk about an answer, a cure. All of us have been affected by someone with cancer in some way.

Did you base the song on any Bible verses?

1 John 1:9 (NKJV): "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

1 John 4:18-19 (NKJV): "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us."

Mark 11:22 (NKJV): "So Jesus answered and said to them, 'Have faith in God.'"

Matthew 19:26 (NIV): Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Romans 5:8 (NKJV): "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT): "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."

What is the takeaway message?

This is our most Scripture-based song on our album. We've seen how this song has helped people, and that's ministered to us. For me, I've thought about what we are saying when we sing "love restores." We are saying God can fix anything that is broken. So often we are so convinced of the brokenness of a situation, and the world around us. Everyone likes to talk about our broken world, but we're all broken without God. We recognize the brokenness, but we don't stay there. That's how God's love restores. His Words are true.

Lyrics:
Are you desperate, for someone to hear your voice
You've been reaching, but you can't get through the noise
Don't give up now, there is hope for you

Are you searching, for a Savior for a friend
You've been hurting, you're about to reach your end
Don't give up now, there is hope for you

His love restores, His words are true
What this world breaks, His hands make new
So do not fear, not anymore,
He can heal what's broken and torn
His love restores, His love restores

Are you praying, for an answer for a cure
You've been waiting, for a miracle that's yours
God is with you, wherever you are
He is holding, onto your heart

His love restores, His words are true
What this world breaks, His hands make new
So do not fear, not anymore,
He can heal what's broken and torn
His love restores

Nothing, nothing, nothing is impossible
No one, no one, no one is unreachable
Nothing is impossible

His love restores, His words are true
What this world breaks, His hands make new
So do not fear, not anymore,
He can heal what's broken and torn

His love restores, His words are true
What this world breaks, His hands make new
So do not fear, not anymore,
He can heal what's broken and torn
He can heal what's broken and torn
His love restores, His love restores

Shine Bright Baby's set at Fringe Stage at Creation Festival this past summer featured the super catchy lead single "Beautiful Love," the achingly beautiful "Love Restores," "Lumineux," "Dreamers" and the single "Made to Glow." I sang along with the band and was thrilled to see the culmination of their past four years of hard work and determination to sing about the love of Jesus really come through in their energetic and worshipful set on the Fringe Stage. All of their songs are catchy, uplifting and focused on the deep love of Jesus and the how the Light of the World indwells in us to "shine bright, baby."

The band name is based on Philippians 2:14-16 (NIV): "Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing."  I often feel like a "dull" person that isn't showing God's light in my life, but their set of songs were very affirming reminders to know that my life ‘shines' for Christ, even on my bad days.

"God is with you wherever you are. He's holding onto your heart" sing the lyrics of this song. We know from Scripture that God with us, Immanuel, Jesus came to be born as a baby and restored us to Himself. We all deal with some level of fear, worry and anxiety. The Lord tells us all throughout His Word to not be afraid or worry. He knows we suffer from that attack from the enemy who wants to rob us of our joy in God. By reading the Bible every day, God wants us to have a daily reminder not to be afraid.

I have been attentive to that concept in my daily Bible study. I have found that by being washed by the water of the Word, I am strengthened with the Truth that God wants us to know that fear, worry and being anxious is not His plan for our lives. By reading the Bible every day, God wants us to have a daily reminder not to be afraid and that "nothing, nothing, nothing is impossible, no one, no one, no one is unreachable, nothing is impossible. His love restores." Amen to that!
